While I can perfectly understand Gaider's desire to write a character that addresses the issue of homophobia, I'm not sure if that belongs in DA.
Supposedly, the only reason that same sex relationships are opposed in Tevinter is that noble families want heirs. A purely practical concern, yes?
So it seems contradictory that Dorian goes on about how his sexuality is treated like something shameful that must be hidden.

So it seems contradictory that Dorian goes on about how his sexuality is treated like something shameful that must be hidden. A bit, yeah. There have been periods of history, at least in my culture, where romantic relations between two boys or two girls were treated as safe and harmless practice for marriage and the forming of a family later on, and where clinging onto such relationships after the point of maturity and adult responsibilities was seen as childish and embarrassing. So that part doesn't necessarily strike me as untrue or unrealistic by itself. But I don't think Dorian is the kind of person who would be in denial about something like that. He seems too level-headed and conscious of his own culture's shortcomings. If it was the case then he would accept his homosexuality as actually being embarrassing to his family by default and not take it quite so personally, and be more incensed at the insane lengths his father was prepared to go to to labor that point instead of moving on rather than his father's inability to accept his choices in and of itself.

Do you guys remember any dialogue that shows that Dorian actually likes Bull? They're supposed to be a couple when unromanced, but it didn't seem that way.

Do you guys remember any dialogue that shows that Dorian actually likes Bull? They're supposed to be a couple when unromanced, but it didn't seem that way. You have to put them in the same party for a sufficient amount of time that the various flirt banter between them triggers. Eventually you discover that Dorian has visited Bull in the night. Then later (after the Arbor Wilds I believe), if you are friends with them both, they will separately talk about their relationship. Dorian tries to pretend he isn't that committed but the Inquisitor can call him out on that. Then in Trespasser it turns out they are still an item, even if Bull is still a fully paid up member of the Qun, which I do find hard to fathom on Dorian's part and to my mind in that case is creepy rather than cute. (Of course it ends badly). There is also a cringe-worthy exchange between them (that other people find sweet but I feel Bull is patronising) when Dorian has an allergic reaction to strip-weed (that doesn't occur if Bull is not present). That's about it really. Apart from the epilogue slides where a Dorian/Bull relationship gets way more coverage than Dorian/Inquisitor and particularly Bull/Inquisitor.

I've only heard dialogue where Dorian was annoyed by Bull. Not a single one where he seemed to enjoy his company.

omg, I was thinking that too
the moment they said that name on the news I was like...what'd Dorian do this time?
I think Dorian himself would be secretly very proud and smug about it

If a Lavellan who is friends with Dorian were to visit him in Tevinter, do you think s/he would have much trouble? I mean, on one hand s/he is a respected figure, but still an elf regardless.

It really depends on how much open prejudice exists against elves there. There will be lot of them out and about on a daily basis, whether they are free people or doing their master's bidding as a slave. It could be that the human populace largely regards them as furniture. Or it could be that elf whereabouts are tightly controlled, with them requiring passes to move about a city; if they had business being somewhere, they'd have a pass from their employer or master, otherwise they're not allowed. Or they could be treated in the same manner as elves in the South.
There are different possible scenarios. I don't think anyone can say for certain how it would work out.

If you turn down Dorian's first sex proposal, do you get another later? I'm pretty sure that you don't. That is the romance lock-in, so if you don't lock it in, that's it. Also, if you watch the scene itself, it seems unlikely that he would approach again.
Lol... the Inquisitor's dialogue is, "I don't know what you thought, but no..."
I'm surprised Dorian doesn't say, "Given that we've kissed twice now*, I can't possibly imagine what I thought," like the Inquisitor is the biggest moron in Thedas.
* Keep in mind that these are two required kisses.

If you turn down Dorian's first sex proposal, do you get another later? I think you mean, when he invited you to Quarters and it's a full blown scene? Where you tell him you like him, want a relationship, but no sex right now? I am pretty certain No. It's specifically for folks who wanted to skip a sex scene, and the conversation where you state you want a relationship that follows the declination is The Scene at that point

phoray Hold on. I remember watching a clip on Youtube where Dorian opens up about how hard it is for love to happen between men in Tevinter. And that happens during a sex scene. So if the Inquisitor asks Dorian to slow down, you never get that important conversation?

The no-sex version is mostly about not knowing how to do a relationship. The sex version is a bit more detailed in his explanation; you've just had sex, so he explains that, in Tevinter, m/m sex is just for pleasure.
The conversation differences make sense in the context of the scenes, but I agree that it's an important conversation.

In my last playthrough, I played a human hating Vashoth. Someone who went as far as refusing to save anyone in Haven, because he figures they wouldn't do the same for him.
But then Dorian comes along and after spending time with him, he slowly realizes: "Hold on. This man is surrounded by people who hate him, but he still is doing what is right for the world. Am I the asshole here?". And from that, he started to change.
So as much as Dorian talks about how the Inquisitor inspired him to do more, the opposite was also true for my character.

It's not a romance, but Dorian's friendship (especially with F!Lavellan) is one of my favorite relationships in the series: (Video cross-posted in the GVM thread) And some images (yeah, some of these posted huge, but I have no idea how to shrink them):
