A great article. One part really struck me: This is so spot on! My first love was the Neverwinter Nights franchise and every other BW title since then and before DA2 was basically suffering from an unfair comparison against NWN. Or more precisely, against the experience of playing NWN as a kid. Still, NWN was in the end only like a adolescent love affair for me, whereas DA2 is something of a true love. But I'm also older now and I understand that I can't expect all BW titles to feel like DA2, because true love is pretty rare. So I can't really say that I'm disappointed with DAI and MEA, because I had very little expectations in the first place. So although DAI and MEA were at times a bit bleak, I tend to be more forgiving these days and concentrate on the bits I enjoy. I do think that DA4 will be very crucial for the success of BW, because MEA and DAI weren't all that exciting gameplay-wise. I think they will need to take that big step forward in this aspect. And now comes the most important part of this message: New Dragon Age!!!! It's party time! PS. Hoping for lotsa romanceable dwarves.

I wish they would just announce that they're working on it, instead of teasing us like this all the time. I mean, it's been almost 3 years.

That is what happened with Andromeda, people wanted BioWare to acknowledge the game and they did, but didn't really add anything meaningful to the discussion until about six months prior to launch. I rather they stay quiet and not just tease us along because it was talked about early.

Writing the next Dragon AgeSunless Sea's creator on working for BioWare from across the Atlantic www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-05-19-writing-the-next-dragon-age"What I can say is I have been given considerable autonomy to work on a storyline bit of lore which is well-segregated from other parts of the game," Kennedy teases, "which makes a lot of sense with me being remote. And yes, if you've seen a lot of my work before you will probably not be surprised by the choice of subject matter. It's familiar stuff." Reddit is pretty convinced this means Kal-Sharok, which would fit. Steampunk dwarves, anyone? Still, I wouldn't mind a sunk-beneath-the-sea side-quest. Topped off with a Cetus boss battle. Yes, I'm holding out for a pirate adventure in DA4, so sue me! I very much doubt they are going to turn Kal-Sharok into the tired stereotype of steampunk dwarves. Going by what Kennedy is saying, he is writing segregated lore that fill in about the space of Mordin's character in ME2. Writing quests and lore for Kal-Sharok would be much larger than that. He's probably writing an important NPC/group or a companion from a place we haven't heard/seen before really.

If we are going to Tevinter, a little escapade into Seheron would be very possible, and I'd love to know more about its native people, we only had very small mentions of them so far.

I wonder if he's working on DA4 or a spin off game. Perhaps something like Last Court given he made Fallen London. I suspect he's working on DA4 based on previous Twitter conversations. But we know Mike's met with Failbetter at least a couple of times, so we could see something from them as well... -(_DA4_)-
Surely we are not talking about a browser game for Dragon Age? More likely it's for their expertise in story branching.

No amount of teasing or marketing hype will change my will to ignore that crap. DA:I was a disappointment (based on hype) and now ME:A turned out to be a tepid product that even game review magazines agreed. Bio+EA may actually change their marketing strategy to avoid the mess with ME:A... because great graphics alone ruined by poor in-your-face animations plus game bugs does not a product make.

" It's very difficult to put the player's name in dialogue - which is why you have the names Shepard and Ryder in Mass Effect, or the title of Inquisitor." But not impossible, considering that Fallout 4 did it. Granted was on a much smaller scale and not everyone said the players name, but it can be done. I think a teaser trailer at EA Play has certainly gone up in odds, at least to me. NWN did it really well. The PC's name was used in subtitles, but not the voiced lines.

And that has a lot of Lovecraftian influence? and the symbol for the Rift Mage in DA is basically Cthulu... so maybe he's writing something to do with the forgotten ones or some elder "god" thing? The titans could also qualify, of course. Regardless, I'm baffled as to why Eurogamer thinks "qunari". They aren't steampunkish or lovecraftian or subterranean... O.o

The qunari have been given "screen time" in DA II and DAI so I think it's not them. It's pointed out in the vid he's writing on the bit of lore that was hardly focused on in previous games so there're a few candidates; could be a person / persons or places.

Maybe this is just a huge hoax to throw us off the scent and he's really writing something big. Like all of Minrathous. Of the life and times of Andraste. Or what's really go on in Weisshaupt? The latter having an Illuminati angle that's kissing cousins with Cthulhu, by way of Steve Jackson.

As for DA4, I'm happy to know they are starting to talk about it cause we might then get some teases or something. Even if it takes 3 more years and then we get "Dragon Age 4: cowboys go on a picnic" I'm still buying it (Heck no amount of "my face is tired" memes could keep me from playing -and loving to be honest- MEA, and I like the DA series even more)

"Dread or alive"... Heh. The "guy you get when you can't have Chris Avellone" sucks, because I put both of them on the same level. I also hope that Bioware hires Avellone as well. I want to see both of them on the games I love. And Bioware NEEDS to hire Avellone in the next Star Wars game. Imagine Drew Karpyshyn, Chris Avellone and Alexis Kennedy on a single project! Throw in Mike Laidaw and Mark Darrah because I love them as well and holy shit. You sure about that? Chris "I hate romance sub plots like the plague" Avellone writing a Dragon Age game?
Do it Bioware! The fan tears will be glorious!

I don't think anyone wants him to write the whole thing, which would be impractical anyway. He's working on Divinity: Original Sin 2 and that has romances in it. Just presumably written by people other than Chris Avellone.

I'd actually be fine playing a DA game without romances. Not sure I would want no romances to be a regular thing in every installment as I do get RP value out of them, but I wouldn't mind taking a break and using those resources to focus on other aspects of the story/plot.

Am I looking forward to an engaging story with complex characters? No. I'm looking forward to the inevitable discourse. Since apparently sacrificing the Chargers, siding with the Templars, and making Vivienne Divine makes you literally Hitler then I can't wait for decisions like "side with Magister Dorian or Magister Lawful Good" to spark 100 pages of fighting in multiple threads. Ah, but Dorian is Neutral Good!

If the games came out every year I would agree but they come out every 4 or 5 years it would not be ok +1 I was fine w/o romance in Awakening, as it is short, and came on the heels of Origins. The only reason I finished Inquisition on the other hand is a romance. As DA4 is such a dicey proposition for me personally after Inquisition, AND given the state of the World and the plot cornered into a very tight corner with very low probability to be particularly engaging and not disappointing for me personally, it not having a romance would leave me questioning if it is worse even bothering with rather than be jubilant that they have dedicated resources to something else. I just fail to see where the resources may have an impact on anything that I like about the games. Inquisition imo left the franchise in tatters, and the only direction that would please me, will cause the rest of the fanbase to hate the installment, so I would not expect the DA4 to be anything that I personally would like in terms of plot/protagonist, so finding a character I like to romance might be the only thing that would work for me.
