You’d be saying the same thing if litterally anybody else had made a list this long too. Don’t take it personally. I admit that an arbitrary list of "best RPG ever" is perhaps not the best example, but I do find a rather consistent gap between the opinions of the average gamer and the average gaming journalist. 80 % of the games listed on that list doesn’t reflect the tastes of the average gamer, like Shadow Hearts or Radiata Historia etc. The average gamer who doesn’t peruse gaming forums most likely won’t have heard of them. I think we forget how many people who play video games don’t actually mingle in forums like this.

I think the list is fairly balanced between games that most people would have heard of and played like Skyrim, and the lesser known ones.

Partly, yes, I guess I also found it strange to see certain games at certain spots on the list. (assuming that the order of the list is supposed to be an indication of importance) Skyrim getting first place in one of those lists is a strange decision too. It was a very popular game, and was rather fun when modded sufficiently, but the base game wasn't that impressive, and neither was it an RPG exemplar. (wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle is a common enough sentiment) I thought your issue was that you don’t like lists that seem like they are reflected on their critical score. The immense obscure titles on this kinda gives the opposite impression, I find myself agreeing with a lot of them. Skyrim is on the top of the list because it’s a game that has taken a lot of hours out of many people (not me, but many) a game that has been rereleased several times but still draws a crowd? It must mean there is something good about it that a lot of gamers, average or not, appreciate. World of Warcraft is the same thing, they are games that has touched s lot of people on a personal level, thus they are generally elevated on the top. I think it boils down to how you choose to rate the games you play and what they mean to you.
