So what happens if I choose not to recruit Vivienne, Iron Bull, Sera, and Blackwall???
I basically never use them and I hate having to talk to them. I usually take Varric, Dorian and Cassandra with me on missions. I will take Solas and Cole on ocassion too.
Thinking of,excluding them in my next playthrough, but am worried it will screw things up too much. Help???

But still appear in the epilog (if I know correctly), as Grand Enchanter, and organizes the new Circles. But can't annoying the Inquisitor anymore. I don't know about Bull, Sera and Blackwall. These probably do what they want – maybe Bull appeared with the Viddasala?

With all of them, if you want to specialize in their skill, knight enchanter ect, then you will have to buy the skills book at a store in Val Royeaux over just picking them up at the companion areas.
Also, with Sera, you will miss bees. But that's about it with her, she is pretty inconsequential to the game. I'm betting the same with Blackwall. I don't know about Iron bull due to Trespasser.

I do use the bee jar... forgot about that Sera can be dismissed, so you could theoretically grab the bee recipe and then kick her out. I can't imagine the Jennies would take that too kindly, though.

If you don't recruit Iron Bull then I think it works the same as if you sacrifice the Chargers or don't do his personal quest; in other words he remains a loyal member of the Qun. Don't know if that means he turns up in Trespasser or not.
I don't think ignoring Blackwall makes much difference, except you might miss some dialogue with Leliana, who originally told you to find him and of course his whole sequence late on.
Basically they aren't vital to the plot, which is why you can refuse to take them on if you wish. I must admit that I spent some games with just Cassandra, Varric and Solas to begin with, then interchanging Dorian and Cole once they were recruited and the others remained on the side lines with me just talking to them at regular intervals until their dialogue ran out. I never even got Bull's personal quest my first run because his approval never got high enough to do so and as I subsequently discovered, I could overcome this by simply taking him on a dragon hunt.

Thinking of,excluding them in my next playthrough, but am worried it will screw things up too much. Help??? Nothing will happen, it's more about missed content. All of those have war table missions that only trigger if you have recruited that follower. If you don't recruit all four of them, you will notice considerably fewer WT operations as the game goes on. But if you don't care about Vivienne not becoming divine (the largest issue), you don't take them anywhere as part of your regular crew, and don't want to be bothered with talking to them occasionally, then not recruiting them won't be any sort of loss. I don't know for sure, but I don't believe Iron Bull will show up in the confrontation in Trespasser if you don't recruit him. Frankly, it just doesn't make sense. If you don't recruit him, then he doesn't actually betray you. There is no reason for him to be there in that case. What is he going to say? "Yo. Remember me? I'm that merc you refused to hire over three years ago." Think of it this way: they're optional for a reason. If it were going to mess up your game, they wouldn't be optional.

I don't have Sera, but I think the Bees recipe is shared via the Golden Nug.
Overall, I fell that for myself I prefer to recruit only the companions I plan to play with, because otherwise the game is too unfocused. Nothing happens if you skip a companion that impedes the story. I swear, I have more banter with less companions than with more.

What happens? The game is shorter. I did a playthrough with only Solas, Varric and Cassandra. When I did trespasser, Dorian was on the roster even though I got rid of him in the main game. I just used Varric and Cassandra for the dlc.

Yeah this is a convenience so you aren't left without a mage for Trespasser's content, as both Descent and Jaws of Hakkon can be played during the main game, so you have access to Solas then (even though you didn't). I find it a bit odd. If you didn't recruit him, or if you had a falling out that causes him to leave, it doesn't make sense that he would be willing tag along in Trespasser. Does he say anything about it?

Does he say anything about it? He shows up in the dlc because he's the trevinter ambassador. I don't recall much about what he says. I know he's on the roster and shows up with the others in the scene with everyone standing side-by-side. I would guess he's put on the roster because Solas is gone and he would fill the role of a mage if the Inquisitor isn't one

I dare say the logic is that he is there as Tevinter ambassador and then you encounter trouble with Qunari, so he is doing his patriotic duty by joining the fight against them. Slightly unfortunate from that point of view that foiling their southern plot sends them back against Tevinter but he wasn't to know that.
If you had a falling out with him in the main game, then I dare say it amuses him that you have to accept/rely on him for help against the Qunari. He does give the most wonderfully expressive laugh when the hostile Inquisitor encounters him in the garden. (Only know this from You Tube because I could never either not recruit Dorian or annoy him so much that he leaves).

There's nothing that changes besides missed content with Blackwall not being recruited - hell, my last Inquisition run, I didn't even turn him down, I completely ignored him and so far as the game was concerned, he didn't exist. Sure, Leliana asked the Inquisitor to seek him out, but she has nothing to say if you don't or if you turn him down.
I honestly got bothered with Dorian being positioned among the Inner Circle in that final shot when he wasn't recruited. It just feels like him intruding on a moment that he doesn't belong it. I didn't recruit him in my last game either, having my issues with him reach a point where I just didn't want to deal with him. I understand that it's a game mechanics issue trumping things, but the fact still is, my Inquisitor said 'I don't want you as part of the Inquisition,' and in that final moment, he gets to join in anyway.

I found out today that the Fade fear tombstones of non-recruited companions aren't lit up.

As far as I know, if you don't recruit Sera, she still makes a cameo in Trespasser. If you recruit Vivienne, she's in the background of the spa scene playing pranks.

Just go to You tube and type in: Dragon Age Inquisition meeting Dorian in Trespasser after punching him in the Face. That's not how I found it originally (that was entirely by accident) but it will take you straight there.
Whilst I hate the idea of anyone punching Dorian, it does give some interesting insights into how Dorian deals with adversity. It also made me admire him even more that when he was down south with literally no friends to back him up, he is still willing to stand up for what he believes to be right. That is why I feel he was perfectly entitled to gloat a little in Trespasser where in spite of the Inquisitor he has still achieved status in his own country and his star is ascending just as the "evil" Inquisitor's is starting to fall.
