Hi y'all, Since I am a frequent public transport user (yep, I've seen some shit) - I thought it could be fun to rant about your latest public transport encounter or share a good (as in weird and funny) story with us. Okay, I'll go first. # The Inevitable Escalator Motion You know the feeling when you're on a very full escalator, right? The left is for people who actually walk up, the right is for lazy standing folk, but sometimes, it's just so full that nothing moves at all. Anyways, here comes the rant: DO PEOPLE THINK THEY BECOME ETHEREAL OR DISEMBODIED WHEN THEY REACH THE TOP?! Seriously, people take one step off the escalator and STAY there, right on the spot, taking it slow, looking left, looking right, oblivious to the fact that there is basically a conveyor belt with a neverending supply of people behind them. And when you bump into them, because yeah sorry - where else am I supposed to go with my non-ethereal body? - they swear at you and call you names. Good times.

What gets me is the Atlanta subway (MARTA) sees peak ridership the weekend of Labor Day. One station in particular, Peachtree Center, gets just packed. Peachtree Center also has some of the longest escalators in the world (it's way underground). Every year, during that weekend, the escalators break and are not repaired until after the weekend is over.
God Bless MARTA, seeing to it that America gets in our cardio on a vacation weekend. Whether we want to or not.
They do not understand how, by not functioning at a time when people who do not normally ride public transit are using them, they destroy any case to be made for public transit.

I can imagine what it was like for those public transportation systems when Pokemon Go first came out...

It's Monday. A lot of traffic. No coffee yet. And the day is already hot and humid. Not a good combination for staying calm in the face of these criminals:
# the gourmet Thanks for sharing the smell your greasy breakfast roll and the accompanying munching sounds with the whole bus.
# too cool too care Nah, I'm sure the old lady doesn't need to sit, when you're looking so stylish on that easily-accessible seat. You just stay there looking swag, I got you covered.
# attention, celebrity on board! I think you should shout just a tiny bit louder into your phone about the new gel fingernails you got done, the last row could barely hear. Don't waste that impressive story!

This is not India or Japan! So pervs barely can do shit in the Metro (underground train for those who don't live in big cities) !
But sometimes it's so crowded people are stuck to each other like sand-witches. Also enjoy lots of pressure on your ankle and knees when the train starts to break (when crowded especially you have to halt others as well... pricks).
In the morning and evening be happy if you could enter the 3rd train. Because most are overfilled 110%.

sitting on the bus behind some colledge chicks who are having a discussion about taking it up the gary glitter, one eventually admits that it doesn't hurt but you end up blowing bubbles for "like a week every time your fart" ...... inevitably the "quite conversation" was loud enough for the entire bus to hear and so a pre-schooler waits for the gossipers to go quiet and then asks in as loud a voice as possible, "mummy do you blow bubbles like she does?" the now very red faced college girl hits the stop button and races off the bus to hoots of laughter, the parent is left struggling with how to answer such a question......

Last year, when I was on the bus, there was an elderly woman near the front of the bus. I kid you not, she shat on the seat, then moved to another seat with a smile on her face.

Last year, when I was on the bus, there was an ehlderly woman near the front of the bus. I kid you not, she shat on the seat, then moved to another seat with a smile on her face. What? I don't even... WHAT? I mean, when I said I've seen some shit on public transport, I had no idea that someone had literally seen some. Anyways, I just kinda switches roles and tried to act like a jerk. I'm on the train, it's not really crowded but some smelly cat lady decides she needs to sit next to me. Luckily enough, I just had to sneeze 5 times in a row and decided not to hold back volume-wise. I sounded like a hysteric elephant, it was awesome. The lady probably thought I'm deadly sick or just a dramatic weirdo and she moved to another part of the train. Of course I could have just moved myself, but like this it was her acting selfish and not me. Mwahaha. #celebratesmalltriumphs

Some more public transport rage. I just don't get people. I really don't. # So sorry if I hurt your bag's feelings by taking its seat. It was a very hot outside, the bus was totally crowded and I had been running around the whole day in uncomfortable shoes. All I wanted was to sit during the 20 minutes' bus ride. I didn't find an empty seat at first. Then I saw this lady occupying a whole 4-seater with her taking one seat and her holy shopping bag all two seats in front of her as if that supid bag was some kind of royal VIP. I was like "I'm sorry, could I please take a seat here?" I swear I was really polite and even managed a smile. I didn't expect the dramatic look on the woman's face, like I had ask her to sacrifice her firstborn to me. The weirdest staring contest began, which basically went like this for a minute: Bag-woman: Me: After what felt like an eternity, she sighed even more dramatically and removed the bag with the utmost effort, while constantly muttering things like "... how rude people are these days ..." and "... can't even go grocery shopping in peace ..." Of course I chose to ignore all that and still took the seat opposite her. Needless to say, I was very happy about the instant karma happening a few stops later, when the nice lady realized that she had a damage yogurt cup in her bag and it had spilled all over her groceries. # WHICH PLATFORM BERTIE?! I was just about to buy my train ticket when I overheard a lady on the phone, obviously slightly panicky. "You said platform 1, Bertie, but there are two platforms 1, because on the left there are stairs and on the right there is an escalator. You didn't tell me that there were two platforms 1!" I tried to be helpful and said: "It's okay, both the escalator and the stairs lead to the exact same platform, there is just one platform 1." The lady looked at me like (And no, I don't think I looked terrifying or something ^^) Then she hurried off and exclaimed into her phone: "Tell me where to go this instant, Bertie, I'm so late I'm gonna miss the train!" Uh yeah. There was just one train leaving during that time and she had over 10 minutes to go. I don't know if she found the 10-second-long way upstairs though. I really hope Bertie could help.

waiting in town for the bus, sitting in my wheelchair i'm first in the queue as the bus empties out and there's 3 birds that race up to join the line with pushchairs, its the last bus that will get you back to the primary school in time to pick up the kids, one of the women approaches me and asks if I'm in a rush to get home or can I let her take the disabled space with her youngest in the buggy so she can make the school run on time, being a nice guy I say of course you can have the space its a nice day and i'll get the next bus..... the driver tells me I don't have to wait if I don't want to I tell him its really fine i'm in no rush
5 mins later the next bus pulls in empties out and I go to get on (again first in the queue) the driver grumbles about people in electric wheelchairs and needing to get off their arse to do the ramp, tells me I need to wait until he's let others onto the bus, then instead of letting me on drives forwards and lets on some teenager with a pushchair and tells me theres no space for the wheelchair.... so I wait for the next bus, at this point the guy from the bus depot approaches me and asks if I want to make a complaint so I duely filled in the form about the guys bad attitude and dishonesty towards me, that he broke the law with not letting me on the bus because of some pushchair, the next day the bus that picks me up from home the driver tells me that I need to be careful cos the twat got the sack, he's the same driver that I told to take the women needing to do the school run and who actually took me home the day before, he's happy cos none of the other drivers liked the guy that got sacked, so later on i'm at the bus stop and theres the ex driver and his sweetheart with the pushchair, he approaches me gesticulating wildly muttering and being all frothy at the mouth,
being the nice guy I am i explain that if he wasn't a lecherous git more interested in getting some than obeying the law and being courteous to passengers he'd still have a job, he starts getting louder and more animated and i tell him to go away, two community coppers come running up and smash him to the ground for threatening a disabled person.... somehow he ended up in a wheelchair and a few weeks later told me he was sorry for how he treated me and begged me to help him with hints and tips on how to adapt to his new reality (turns out the plod released him after a few hours and he got in a fight in a pub where someone cracked one of his vertebrae) now being a nice guy i didn't just laugh in his face but said sure lets go grab a pint and chat, so we're in the pub and ive just explained one of the simple things that make a world of difference (like a retractable key fob with a meter long draw and metal wire) and he tells me that he's got no cash and i should give him mine so he can use it because really his situation is all my fault, at this point i laugh at him and tell him what he needs is to see a shrink, and i leave... roll on a year captain charming is history and i'm waiting in town for the bus and his bird rocks up with a toddler and another youngster in the pushchair, she sees me waiting and starts crying, the relief driver who's waiting to take over goes and talks to her then he comes over to me, seems she's about to be late meeting a social worker which likely means her kids will be taken off her, now the weathers foul and the bus is already late, but i'm a nice guy and so i motion for her to come over, and i tell them if i get on the bus first she can put the pushchair in the gap that's left the driver agrees and she wimpers thanks, on the bus i tell her to cheer up the weathers that bad the social worker will likely be late but either way as soon as she gets in make the kids a warm drink and get them changed if the social worker is there then seeing her concentrate on the kids will be the key, a week later she sees me in town and tells me thanks for letting her on the bus that day, she had her kids and apparently the social worker was waiting when she got home, seeing her with the kids and how she concentrated on them was enough to convince her that whilst young she and ideally needing some help her focus was in the right place, so despite still being subject to random visits for the next few months things were looking up at last, i suggested her and the wife have a coffee while i went to do some shopping, the wife put her in touch with a group of other young mums and whilst we haven't seen her for a while since then our niece (also a young mum) tells us that she's doing well and social services have closed her case now she's doing better.....
so sometimes good shit happens even when bad shit caused it to become a thing/

Took this picture in September 2011 in a train of the Deutsche Bahn. The only thing that's correct is the time. Perhaps you can time travel? I think that's what the Deutsche Bahn wants you to think, so they can pretend they're on time. Every time I borded a train in Switzerland to go to Germany it would be on time, as long as it was in Switzerland. As soon as the train crossed the border it would be late for whatever reason and I could bet on it, that I would miss my connecting train and I'd have to wait an hour for the next. Decided to stop taking the train when I want to visit friends in Germany and just book a ride with MeinFernBus. 8 hour trip with the bus, faster than train, costs less and is on time.

Okay, so I'm currently on the bus. There's this guy with a hat, a beer and some self-made aluminium device, who keeps looking at the sky outside muttering "Any minute now..." and "It must happen, it must!"
I'm very tempted to sit next to him so that I don't miss any apocalyptic and/or alien thing going on.

No, just an ordinary hat. Maybe a tinfoil hat was missing to predict the precise course of events then, cause nothing happened and I eventually left the bus, all disappointed.

Perhaps he was careful, and simply lined the inside of the hat with foil, so you couldn't actually see unless you looked into the inside of the hat...

Rants about (other people using) public transport is always fun!
So I mentioned this a bit in a different topic, but I occasionally need to go to the hospital in Maastricht with the wife, since they're specialised in different stuf than the hospitals here in Eindhoven. It's slightly over an hour by train, which is not too long I guess.
On the return trip we picked out the train carriage on the front of the train, since it would be closest to the stairs when the train arrives at my home town's station.
After a few minutes, a classroom full of extremely noisy eleven-year-olds overcrowded the carriage, and continued to scream and shout almost the entire journey, until they got off just one stop earlier than me, to visit some fun fair in this obscure little town southeast from here.
Really I don't mind children, or them being noisy, but this was noisy teenagers boosted to eleven...
Ah well... even more fun was the following:
When I arrived at my hometown's main railway station I walked to my bike (I'm sure y'all didn't realise this, but Dutch people tend to use their bicycles often. It's also pretty convenient in a mostly flat country with plenty of seperated cyclepaths around), only to find out some dumb stupid fuck chained MY bike to the bicycle stand instead of his own... GREAT! I contacted the station supervisor, the guarded bicycle shed management asshole (he WAS a total asshole), and even the local police department, but no one was willing to solve 'my problem'. Sure I got permission from the cops to remove that chain by myself, just let me get that bolt cutter out of my jacket's inner pocket...

Okay, so this story is way too fun not to share it here. # A beginner's guide: Possibilities of passive-aggressive but educational behavior I was on the train, it was not crowded at all and a very nice and warm day. I was leaning forward for a while cause I was checking my phone; then after a bit, I leaned back. Or rather, I wanted to lean back, only to discover that something unexpected was there on my seat. Lo and behold! The lady behind me had been draping her huge down jacket over my seat from behind, so that basically my whole seat was covered in jacket and fake fur hoodie. I was like - WTF?! Is that my seat or what?! I still don't get why someone would do that; there was so much room on the train, plenty of spare seats, why doesn't she put her stupid jacket there?! Anyways, I tried to ask her to remove it, but she was sleeping (or pretending to, I don't know). I was quite pissed to be honest, and I think my rage gave me the inspiration I needed. Very carefully, I took a few pieces of trash (a wrapping paper, a used tissue, another wrapping paper, another tissue, a few old receipts... but obviously nothing that would leave stains) and stuffed them into the sleeve of her jacket. Not my fault that she provided me with perfect access, right?! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The only sad thing about it is that I had to get off the train 5 minutes later and did not see her face when she put on her jacket. Too bad, really. But I hope that she'll think twice the next time she confuses someone else's seat with her own. #punisherowl

Great conversation with a co-worker on the train on our way home from work:
She: "Oh, it's so funny meeting you here, I've never seen you on this train before." Me: "Me neither, and I take it every day. Do you take this train often?" She: "Umm no, it's the second time today." Me: "..."
