We have not only one, but two claimants to the title of the "world's biggest ball of twine".

We have not only one, but two claimants to the title of the "world's biggest ball of twine". Judging by the size of your country's balls of twine, HOW F*CKING BIG ARE YOUR CATS???! i'm not scared of cats i swear. i'm a ginormous rodent after all.

Anywhere you go there's a knife souvenir shop nearby, bc it's really handy to have a knife in your belt/pocket/backpack, right?! Who knows when's the next time you'll need one. They are also really pretty. Edit. So this is in Finland, should anyone wonder.

My country is quite large and well documented (USA), so I'll provide state facts here for my own (I see a lot of people doing that.)
I live in Indiana. I'm not from here originally, nor do I consider myself a Hoosier (the term for a person from Indiana), but we do have our interesting facts:
The north pole doesn't get any of your letters to Santa Claus, for fellow Americans (and Canadians too, I believe). Instead, they all go to the town of Santa Claus, Indiana, and by the thousands. And every single letter gets a reply, believe it or not!
The very first professional game of baseball is long believed to have first been played in Fort Wayne.
Despite the name Indiana meaning 'home of the Indians', fewer than 8000 Native Americans actually live here.
Nobody knows for sure where the term 'Hoosier' came from or why people in Indiana refer to themselves as such.
Elvis Presley's final concert was in Indianapolis.
90% of Popcorn in the world is made from Indiana corn.
Parke County has more covered bridges than any other place in the world.
Indiana Limestone has built several of the world's most famous building, and it's speculated we have some of the largest deposits on earth.
You can thank Terre Haute, Indiana for the shape of a Coca-Cola bottle.
The very first train robbery in history was in Indiana back in 1866. The thieves stole $13,000.

The world's first cash machine was installed a Barclay's Bank in Enfield, North London in 1967. It was opened by actor Reg Varney (from On The Buses), because he happened to be living locally at the time.
The Pound Sterling was only decimalised in 1971. The amount of pence per pound went from 1/240 to 1/100.
The M25 motorway that encircles Greater London has earned the nickname the "London Orbital Car Park" due to it's frequent traffic jams. In the novel Good Omens, it's joked that this is due to the demon Crowley altering the lane markers to turn it into a demonic sigil, explaining the sheer amount of frustration motorists experience when using it.
To be licensed to operate a black cab in London, you must first have completed "The Knowledge". The notoriously difficult test requires taxi drivers to demonstrate clear understanding and awareness of all 25,000 streets in London, as well as the quickest available route from one point to another. (Because who needs sat-navs?) It takes about roughly 2-4 years to learn.
The Shipping Forecast is a weather service that airs four times a day, meant to keep ships up to date on current/future weather conditions around the British Isles. These take the form of 31 individual regions encompassing Britain, the Channel, Ireland, South-east Iceland and the North Sea. The service began in 1867 (via telegraph, then later radio) and turned 150 earlier this week.
Despite being one of our most popular and beloved national pastimes, during the Middle Ages there were numerous calls for and failed attempts to ban football. It was seen as either too unruly, dangerous and distracted people from their archery practice (which was then mandatory by law).

I'm going to use the word county. My town doesn't have a lot of things that you might know, however this is pretty much it: Rod Serling (The Twilight Zone) and the 2016 Little League Champs. Yea, were a pretty small county.

Some random facts about Greece. 1) Never *ever* wave someone with an open palm. That gesture is called a 'moutza' and it basically means 'I throw shit at you'. 2) If they compliment you, then spit at you (no actual spit, no worries. XD), it's a way of not jinxing the nice compliment. 3) Namedays are, in general, considered a bigger deal than someone's birthday. 4) This is slowly changing, but it's common to greet someone with a kiss on each cheek. Even if it's two male friends greeting each other.

The United States Flag Code requires that all American flags be lowered by hand at dusk and raised again the next dawn, except for the flags at the White House, the Capitol Building, and the Washington Monument. An exception was also made for the five remaining flags on the moon (the Apollo 11 flag got knocked over when they left), because it would be slightly inconvenient to send someone to the moon every two weeks.

Hmm...let's go: Food section:(1) Germany has about 300 different kinds of bread. That's world record (and anyway, I think people in other countries couldn't bake good bread if you paid them its weight in gold ). (2) Germany also has more than 1500 kinds of sausage. That's world record, too. I think the Italians make the better salami though. History section:(1) Henry the Fowler ("Heinrich der Vogler", r 919-936) is usually considered the first German king, not the better known Otto I, who defeated the Magyars at the Lechfeld and was the first German king who became Holy Roman Emperor. (2) The worst loss of life in German history, as a percentage of the total population, came neither from the Black Death nor from WWII, but from the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). It resulted in an estimated loss of about 50% of the population of the German states. Technology section:(1) The automobile was invented in Germany (who would've thought ) (2) Nuclear fission was discovered in Germany, in 1938 during the Nazi reign. Thankfully, the Nazis were unable to capitalize on the discovery fast enough.

Iceland has a naming committee which makes a list of acceptable names you can have if you are born here and a set of rules the name must follow if it is to be accepted. If you want to change your name/name your baby with a name not on the list you need to ask for their approval and it can be really hard to get it, because the rules can be quite silly. Even just changing a letter can be a struggle. For example, Bastian is not allowed, but Bastían is. The reasoning is that the i is pronounced as í, so it can't be with an i. And up until 1996, immigrants also had to follow the rules. So a lot of people had to change their names to the "Icelandic version" like Fredrik would have become Friðrik and other people had to change their names completely. So that was fun.

Some more while we're at it:
1) The official name of Greece is Hellenic Republic. However, we just refer to the country as 'Hellas' or, the more modern version, 'Hellada'.
2) It's pretty common for children to live with their parents until they're married. So, yes, the movie 'Failure to Launch' had us all 'Why do his parents want him *out* of the house?'.
In the same vein, grandparents are rarely sent to retirement homes; they live either next door, or under the same roof with the rest of the family.
3) There are about 2,000 islands, though only 170 are inhabited.
4) One of those islands, Ikaria, is well-known for the longevity for its inhabitants. It was named after Icarus (the boy who flew towards the sun with his wings of wax), since it was said his body was washed ashore there after his death-plunge.
