i love weisswurst more than i love Tali tbh although my German coworker, he's from Swabia, he keeps telling me bavarian weisswurst is overrated and best weisswurst is made in Schwaben (he's from Reutlingen). Yeah, he's like that, everything's better in Baden-Wurttemberg His accent is funny, too, when he speak German, he doesn't sound like other Germans i know. Everyone knows Swabians can't speak High German. They even joke about it. I had a girlfriend from the Swabian Mountains and we once made a weekend trip with some of her friends. There was one I couldn't understand at all, and he was unable to speak in a way that I could understand, even after asking him repeatedly. This why you should all learn English.

Don't tell me you understand all variants of English... I'd suspect problems with regional variations are even worse in English, given that so many more peoples speak it. Not to mention the variations you might find present in the same region. Where I live, there's a subtle but noticeable difference between the local accent and the one spoken only 5 miles down the road.

Slightly-drunk state facts from Otter!
Fact: Delaware was actually created in 1971 to serve as a corporate tax haven. All relevant documents were modified to make it look like a founding state. Anyone you meet claiming to be from Delaware is actually a spy.
Fact: New Jersey was actually the first state to allow women to vote. It was only by accident, because it took them a couple years to notice that it wasn't explicitly forbidden.
Fact: The state of Conneticut actually has a negative population density. Somehow. This anomaly has had statisticians scratching their heads for two centuries.
Fact: New York used to be New Netherland until it was conquered by James II, back when he was duke of York. He decided to name it after himself, because you don't get to be a British monarch without arrogantly naming something after yourself.
Fact: People from Indiana are called hoosiers. No one knows why, because the Hoosier Militia is violently anti-intellectual and assassinates anyone who asks too many historical questions about Indiana.
Fact: Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, and American Samoa are kind of like that one family member who shows up at reunions and has to remind everyone, even their own siblings, who they are. Actually, even if you reminded them, a good number of mainland Americans probably don't know America owns them.
Fact: I hate Illinois Nazis.
Fact: The Ohio State University's official football cheer is titled "I Don't Give a Damn About the Whole State of Michigan"
This is one of the deepest state rivalries, and goes back to when Michigan and Ohio fought a war over the city of Toledo. The rest of the country is never going to stop laughing about this, because there are few things more pathetic to war over than Toledo. (also, in case you were wondering, Michigan doesn't have a commonly used anti-Ohio song as far as I can tell. They just say "Fuck Ohio." Perhaps they inherited some Canadian laconicness.

Scotland's national animal is the Unicorn........... In Celtic mythology, the Unicorn of Scotland symbolized innocence and purity, healing powers, joy and even life itself, and was also seen as a symbol of masculinity and power.. The unicorn was first used on the Scottish royal coat of arms by William I (Scotland) in the 12th century. In the 15th century, when King James III was in power, gold coins even appeared with the unicorn on them. The fabled creature has adorned coats of arms, flags and stonework for centuries and remains a symbol of nobility and power. Thought to have been the natural enemy of the lion - a symbol of English royalty, unicorns have been written about by the ancient Persians, Romans, Greeks and Celts, and were often described as an elegant white horse-like creature with a single horn capable of magical properties. Historically, the lion and the unicorn have long been painted as enemies, vying for the crown of king of beasts, with the unicorn ruling through harmony and the lion by might. 9th April is marked as National Unicorn Day in Scotland each year. (Tourists...cough).

Well then, a random fact/quirk about my country: We Dutch are used to look eachother in the eyes when talking to one another, even strangers (like cashiers). Apparently this is an uncommon practice at least in Belgium.

The most common street name in America is Second Street. The first street usually gets renamed after the town it's in, or to something like Main Street.

Native animals, The Scottish Wildcat.... Rarer than the tiger and classified as a critically endangered species, the Scottish wildcat is Britain's last native cat species and only remaining large wild predator. Surviving human persecution for five hundred more years than the British wolf (extinct) and over a thousand more years than the British lynx (extinct) or bear (extinct), wildcats are now only found in Northern Scotland but used to occur throughout Britain. Habitat loss, hunting and persecution led to their decline and they almost became extinct at the beginning of the 20th century. The greatest threat it now faces is hybridisation through inter breeding with feral domestic cats. Although closely related, it is not the ancestor of the domestic cat. The Scottish form is the largest in the wildcat family typically described as weighing 5-9kg (11-17lbs), however fossil evidence and both modern and historical eye witness sightings suggest they can grow much larger, perhaps to as much as 14kg (30lbs), modern under-estimates may be caused by relying on data from hybridised animals. Unique to Britain, and now only found in Scotland, the Scottish wildcat is currently classified as an isolated island population of the European wildcat (felis silvestris silvestris), though there is still considerable debate over whether it should be classed as a distinct sub-species (felis silvestris grampia). The Scottish wildcat is listed as critically endangered. “Next is extinct in the wild and the next is extinct full stop,” said David Barclay, who manages the conservation breeding programme at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland. “The population of wildcats (Scottish) estimated in the wild is horribly low,” said Barclay. One estimate, within the last five years, put the number between 100-300. “To be honest, I think it is under 100.”

the romans after invading and conquering Britain are said to have tried draining the lake of Avalon in order to try and recover the mythical sword... needless to say they failed, but every successive conqueror has also attempted to complete the job and yet the wetlands persist although far smaller it only takes a small amount of rain to turn it back into a lake....
every lone high point in the island has a trig point on it.
before the last ice age the UK was a tropical paradise.
the civil war was triggered by the then king inviting the witch finder general (a Spaniard) to the country who then set about murdering every female over the age of 8 in every village he came to as part of a plan to mass convert the country to Catholicism and end the Anglican church... needless to say he failed although he did bugger off across the pond to try his luck in the colonies...

An american presidential term lasts for four years, but no one can be president for more than ten years, which is not divisible by four.
This is actually less stupid than it sounds: there's a line of succession for if the president dies or resigns mid-term, and it was decided that it only counts as your term if you serve for more than half of it. This means that if the vice-president succeeds the presidency after 24 months, they can be elected two more times in their own name. In theory, at least. In practice, the only person so far who could have exploited this rule is Lyndon B. Johnson, who chose not to pursue a second election.

Some words in finnish if they would be translated straight in english The stream horse looked at me with disdain just before I was chased by the horn snout. I took the iron road to my own home house and looked into the ice closet to see if there was anything to eat. I went out side with my freshly washed clothes and used the laundry boys to hold up my sock pants and my significant others breast vest. I decided for supper I would have salmon snake and ink fish. However before supper I checked my email on the knowledge machine and then got some exercise on the running carpet. I thought of holding the Christmas goat as a deposit prisoner due to my gambling lottery cube addiction. In the end I realized that I had opened the rain shadow in doors thus giving me bad luck.

I never carry real, live cash on me on regular basis. Just my credit card.

Yeah, a credit card might be more 'immediately' convenient (I only have two, and I only carry one of them, the one with a $1000 spending limit.) Everything else, I pay with straight cash. I have a debit card as well, but unless I'm in a real crunch, I reserve that for the one or two things that require direct deposit from my bank account. Otherwise, like my no-limit credit card, it stays home. One reason I prefer cash is because you're a lot less likely to spend on stupid or frivolous purchases, plus you're more aware of what you have in your hand.
