It is the best mechanic that way...caring for these people...then taking their lives for the boost. Not as if some of them didn't deserve it...although as I said the characterization is fairly flat for the majority of the NPCs. Why would i care for people if i am going to kill them? for me this is the opposite of what it should be. The XP gain. If they are sick, you can lose thousands of XP. So you need to treat them. You also need to uncover hints about them by talking to them, and doing quests. All of that improves their blood quality, essentially how much XP you can get. That is what makes the system worthwhile...you need to work for it and Reid's morality is specifically tied to your choice.

I definitely get the idea of what they tried to do with the NPCs, but the thing is that in the end it feels completely artificial. The sheer disparity in power-gain between those NPCs the game forces you to care about and the hordes of hunters and lesser vampires you end up killing is never justified in-universe (so far at least). Why should the blood of an old lady contain more power than the blood of a hunter? If you drain a certain gangster the first time you meet him (without investing anything in learning about him) you get a few hundred points of XP, and again, there's no real reason for the distinction between him and any other common thug you end up killing aside from their name tag. I think that this is definitely another example of a game that suffers from ludonarrative dissonance. The idea itself could have been justified theoretically, if vampires fed on more than just blood according to the lore, but also on some spiritual energy which is brought to the fore via the creation of an emotional connection with the victim, the idea is interesting in theory, but it was never established in-game (up to chapter 3 at least). I can tell you it's not. I never really considered it artificial when I played, and the justification given is mostly in the names being "rogue XXX" on some of the creatures and the humans being the Priwen Guards. The flu epidemic is also part of that cover too, so I figured Focus was hand waving it outside of the named characters.

Well... Reid did jump to level three by snacking on his sister at the very start of the game...

Will probably wait for a sale. Besides, I hear the combat sucks. The last time I played something with good story/bad combat was "Rule of Rose," and I couldn't get through that game.

Well... a bit surprising that Bioware fan kind of don't like this game.
I don't like Vampire, like at all But I find Vampyr very interseting especially Citizen feature & Choice is really have consequence in this game. So I decide to play as Vampire for the first time.
I like this game in many level.
About Citizen and why they give more XP than kill enemy.
I really wish I can be gay vampire in this game.... still finding the answer though

I'm enjoying the tangled web of gossip and back stories as you talk to the hospital residents. Still haven't killed anyone. Is it just me or could this game use a minimap? It has such convoluted corridor level design, the compass isn't cutting it. Also, switching targets with M&K sucks balls. You design a group-based combat system without the means to seamlessly switch on the fly? Good lord.

Also, switching targets with M&K sucks balls. Yes, the game is clearly a console-port. Not the worst I have seen, but still very clearly a console-port. It was no better on consoles...I just free-formed it save for a few enemies. Locking on has a nasty habit of swinging the camera around though. Didn't like that too much.

I really enjoy the game. Besides being an utter gossipy doctor that nobody seem to notice that vein-y face. Nearly reach the end of Chapter 3 at level 18. No spoilers but that level 22 boss fight with clunky controls really sucks. But my completionist is urging me to redo the entire game again. Killed Clay (to kill this one werewolf boss) and let one guy die because too underleveled for the area. I think its a nice challenge to finish the game without killing anyone, pretty doable. You can always kill off unnecessary NPCs anytime if you want to make things easy..... Also I'm surprised the usual anti-SJW crowd aren't complaining about this game. Ah, bliss.

It's almost like people don't have a problem with games that concentrate on portraying story and characters as best as possible rather than using them to push a certain kind of message... Almost like your idea of "the usual anti-SJW crowd" is a bit of a straw-man... Because we all know that everything labeled sjw is objectively bad writing, uninterested in telling good stories, and depicts flat characters and that objectively good content is devoid of messages and has no interest in saying anything meaningful and that there are established sjw methodologies that are antithetical to good story telling. and as we all know straw manning is not intentionally misrepresenting another person’s words to say they said things they never said but instead it is generalizing about people, but only when it’s a generalization against some people. Jeez

Jeez I'll make it simple for you: A writer using a story / character to push in their own political narrative above everything else? Classic SJW. (often such a story/character will be portrayed in a way which is very unrealistic for the setting, one-sided, and biased towards the precious narrative, the character will often be a Mary-Sue, whether male or female, etc.) On the other hand, a story about shades of grey, different characters with different opinions *and flaws* (that part is especially important), in which the writer is letting those characters speak for themselves as it were, rather than using them as sock-puppets for his/her ideological screeching? That's a good story. Seems rather straight forward to me. As Jim Butcher put it: "creators should entertain harder than they preach"

Jeez Of course it is...if you create work with a meaning or sociopolitical or philosophical message behind it that means your work sucks...for example such awful creators as Gene Roddenberry, Jonathan Swift, Mark Twain, Victor Hugo, Frank Capra, Charles Dickens, John Steinbeck...I could go on and on. Unless what you create is utterly mindless you are an SJW and terrible at what you do, at least that's what the internet tells me, and of course the internet is never wrong.

So... early 20th century London being filled with diverse London 'citizens'; some isn't subtle about the discrimination facing them from their ethnicity, their gender and their sexuality; all of which being treated as minor annoyances and hints -SJW in tiny bite pieces- and suddenly everything is good writing?
How to make these SJW issues to be considered as nonthreatening to an easily triggered player instead of 'forced/shoehorned in' = white male savior being their champion of tolerance. And considering you can easily kill them all off, so there's an illusion of power if you wanted to eradicate them but you can't actually be that 'evil' and it actually made the game easier than it already is... ah the paradox of Dontnod games.

And about Vampire, I preordered it but I couldn’t really get into it, probably because I had just finished playing Detroit Become Human which was absolutely perfect in my eyes and that means that no other game will be good enough ever lol. I’ll give it another chance though soon I think. Currently playing Fallout 4.

You can always kill off unnecessary NPCs anytime if you want to make things easy..... Also I'm surprised the usual anti-SJW crowd aren't complaining about this game. Ah, bliss. Your avatar is amazing! Can I ask which game it’s from? And about Vampire, I preordered it but I couldn’t really get into it, probably because I had just finished playing Detroit Become Human which was absolutely perfect in my eyes and that means that no other game will be good enough ever lol. I’ll give it another chance though soon I think. Currently playing Fallout 4. Her avatar is taken from the mmo game Star Wars the Old Republic, likely one of her female sith warrior toon that romanced one of the LIs. You can see the guy in this trailer. There were six expansions (some were free provided the players are subs), out of which only four contained any substantial story. This was the fifth in the list. It has been announced a seventh expansion is coming.
