Say if a citizen is "healthy" do I have to keep checking on them to make sure they stay that way? When you sleep things tend to change, some characters will get ill, looks like an RNG thing. Basically if you want to keep everything in order you should attempt to heal everyone (or most characters) before you sleep. Yeah, I try to do that. But my question is if a previously healthy person gets sick, does it show up on your list of NPCs, or do I have to go and talk to them (or use vampire senses) to get an update on their condition?

My understanding was that when a district goes critical most/some people in it die. When it goes critical, the district is permanently lost, and all NPCs are dead or gone. No, that's not correct. In the docks, losing the pillar resulted in 3 people going missing. I then had to kill them. But the situation was only Serious. Then 3 people got sick and it dropped to Critical but no further missing/dead people. I've healed them and have yet to sleep and see if this prevented losing the region. Chaos is the lowest level and the one that results in losing everyone, I would think? PS: Why a 8GB (!) patch?! The patch notes don't suggest any massive changes. For me this means hours of downloading at snail speed...

Soooo, we had a pretty hilarious night with Vampyr: There was a major choice coming up in chapter 5 and again it was easy to tell which one was the right one. However, for the sake of variation, we did different things. This time I got to do the right thing because I couldn't afford more mayhem with the docks being in critical condition. Boyfriend picked the bad one... ...and ended up with almost EVERYONE getting sick. FIFTY people need to be healed!!! LOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!! I, on the other hand, have NO sick people this time, 2 sanitized regions now, one healthy, and the docks at least back to Serious. Awesome! Boyfriend raged pretty hard, not anticipating THIS level of fucked up. I mean, nobody died, so it's not THAT bad. It's more a question of how long it will take to craft 50 potions! That's major trolling on the dev's part if you ask me. I mean, it makes sense. You are warned this could happen. So it's your own fault if you ignore it. But still... kinda shitty way to extend playtime. We're close to the finishing line it seems. So this sure is annoying that I'll have to wait an hour or something for him to heal everyone before we can proceed! For anybody interested in the specifics: Don't make Dawson a vampire! Listen to your sweetheart Elisabeth! Don't kill him either. Let him die and he'll give his money to charity and hospitals in particular. Which is why nobody gets sick. The Ascalon Club will hate your guts but who cares! Anyway, in case anybody is wondering: The big choice in chapter 5 has no impact on the endgame apparently, oddly enough. I really thought it would. Strange game design choices. So many things that should absolutely matter and yet they are just flavor, or variations on the healing potions routine...

Picked up a bit on this again. I stopped after arriving at the hospital last time. Judging from what I read, I advanced the main story a bit. I was also disconcerted to find that something may go wrong should I decide to go back to the hideout and leveled up which meant I effectively move to the next night. Skilling up meant play night has ended, right? I tackled the first wolfie at level 9, died a few times. I'm not amused to find wolfies everywhere after that. While moving to a new zone, I hesitated when I saw the level of the mob; 16. Wasn't it 14 the last time I saw those fellows? 9 vs 16. er... what the heck, let me give this a go. Before entering the area where those mobs are, there's a gate. I went through, caught their attention, then retreated back through the gate. I was expecting them to come through but instead, they were hovering behind it. They didn't know how to open gates?! Oh good, stay there and let me whack you! It was done in no time. There's also weird desync during dialogues.

Huh??
As soon as enemies spot me, gates get locked and I'm trapped until I kill them all. O.o
Did they patch this??
I died so many times trying to kill those high level dudes in the gated area close to the hospital...
I did however shamelessly exploit a level 32 boss who glitched into a pillar and couldn't hurt me anymore. Doesn't always happen. Boyfriend had to level up first to finish that sidequest. *g*

I don't know how it happened. I hit one of the mobs, then quickly backtracked through the gate which closed. I guess I slipped through before it went to auto-lock. If there's a drop off, I also use it. Get a hit in, dropped down, moved away until protag lost battle stance, go back up. The mob is usually standing like a dummy on top so I smacked into them. The combat is sure shitty. The lock on is very useless. I was in the cemetery, locked on a quest boss. There were two other scals nearby. I was hammering it out with the boss but very frustratingly, the protag kept swinging in the direction of the other two mobs. Whatever power I used, also went their way. Of course, that attracted their attention. The good part is they got stuck against tomb stones and the boss went into a corner so he couldn't retreat so I relocked and then tried to hit him whenever I could. I'm also going to say that I'm not a fan of constant respawns. Die, the bludy mobs respawned, you also lose serums that're used. Close the game and come back, the bludy mobs respawned. *sigh* I've a feeling the final stretch is going to be a mighty pain in the ass with such lame combat and skilling up mechanics that I think I might not be able to finish the game. For a bludy vampire, the protag can't even get to high places, etc. Some vampire. The story is interesting so far but the rest is giving me a lot of annoyance. There're some good points to this game but I wish it's like Dishonored I and II that also utilises paranormal powers that allow the player to go where they want all over the map; up, down, through the walls. They also have options to go full confrontational mode or stealth mode which affect the ending. Vampyr is severely lacking in combat and map creativity.

Yeah, the target lock feature is the most infuriating thing about combat. Keeps switching targets on its own even though I disabled that... The camera then of course goes crazy and I get beat up all the time because I lost sight of my intended target. It's really poorly implemented.
Let me tell you, in chapter 5 there is a level spike where suddenly all enemies are level 32 and if you play pacifist, you start dying again. It was all fine until now. Even being 4 levels higher than pacifist, I'm struggling against groups. And I'm level 28 I think. Somehow suddenly 4 levels lower is worse than ten in chapter 3. Not sure why.
And then, as you say, the whole area respawns when you die and your blood level is down, your potions gone... I HATE it!
Despite all that I'm having a good time learning everybody's dirty secrets. But the game would have been nicer without combat and about half as long. I've played for 37 hours talking to everyone, getting most hints (failed some). I assume I'll be done in another 3 hours. 40 hours for a game that has shit combat is, well, not ideal.

Oh geez, I might as well stop right now because I'm playing a pacifist. It's too bad since the story / dialogues are interesting but the combat and other features are so off-putting. I'll keep for a bit longer and see how it pans out. One plus thing is that you can drag those dang vampire hunters into other mobs so they can duke it out.

Obsidian Gryphon I don't regret spending money on this game and after the rough confusing first few hours I have more or less made my peace with the game's poor design choices and managed to progress without much effort. The narrative is worth it for me. But I totally understand that a lot of people would disagree. I would advise to keep playing. But only you can decide how much the gameplay annoys you.

Well, I finished Chapter 3. Though I had to rest and level but before fighting Mary as a ten level difference against that particular boss just made things frustrating. At level 18 it was far more manageable. Things seemed to work out for the Docks, they have gone from Stable to Healthy. The Hospital is Sanitized. Whitechapel is still Serious, but improved slightly. A half dozen people got sick overnight, but I had plenty of materials to treat them. SO unless I screw up again, Whitechapel should improve a lot more the next evening. And now the West End is unlocked for me. Anyone else kinda shipping Reid and Ashbury?

Kappa Neko , it's likely I'm going to look up combat tips for bosses to smooth things along. I watched a couple of vids earlier; what skills, weapons etc, what to do and not to do. One thing I found is that I do better with the two handed club than the hacksaw and the stake. I chose to make the club a heavy stun weapon and pushed up the bite. Stun, bite, drain blood, heal, dodge, use skills. Rinse & repeat. Since the lock is so whacky, I decided not to use at all. Not going to use pistol or whatever, running out of ammo is not fun. Iakus , yeah, shipping them definitely. I don't see any other candidates for Reid although I've to say the pace of their relationship is a little fast. But not so fast that she's immediately asking Reid about feelings five mins after meeting him *cough* POE Deadfire *cough* The lore about vampire reproduction is bloodcurdling; childbirth, I meant. eeewww...

Reid and Ashbury are positively adorable. I ship them hard!
A bit of advice on weapons: Do buy Milton's shotgun asap. It's totally OP and a BIG help for boss fights. Depending on the enemy's resistance it can take off half their HP!!
Oddly Milton's shotgun remains the best in the game. So it's worth the steep price.
For regular mobs don't bother with guns. Ignore pistols.
The hacksaw is great imo. I don't like slow heavy weapons but that's personal preference. Hacksaw gets a nice bleed upgrade. MUCH better to bleed enemies than to bite them. I didn't bother putting points in Bite.
Save XP for Ultimate upgrades. Stuff gets expensive later on. So don't waste it on cheap shit. Last time I kept 2000 XP for the next night...

Poor Enid. Swindled by Martin Nightingale and the gal selling the cordial, and in constant mental confusion. I killed her out of pity but it probably still wasn't the right thing to do. I also killed Martin. Fuck that crook. Might also kill Tilda eventually since she leads the Wet Boot Boys.

Maybe it’s because my first reaction at that scene of Ashbury was wanting an option to kill her right there, plus the relationship goes so fast that I don’t ship them at all.

Finished Vampyr in 40 hours as predicted.
Great love story. Awwwww.
Sooo, funniest thing ever: We BOTH got the best ending!!! So apparently only embracing people counts as kills. So the four people I had to kill when they turned into monsters because of my docks choice didn't count. Ahahaha! Nor does losing one other pillar (which is the right choice here, though).
Oh man, I could have killed 4-5 scumbags after all. What a missed opportunity!
So I got the best ending with five people dead, four by my hand, but not by sucking their blood. Jonathan gets to spend eternity with his love. London is saved, but who cares about that...
Incredibly dramatic final scene between Jonathan and Elisabeth. Loved it!
I watched the other endings on YT. The good one is quite acceptable too. The bad and worst ending NOT AT ALL. I would have been devastated...
It took until watching all endings to understand what the endings are REALLY about.
Thumbs up for the nice, if drawn out, epilogue.
Still a 7/10 that could have been a strong 8 if it was Life Is Strange style pure investigative narrative.
Tomorrow I'll start Subnautica, so excited, I probably can't sleep!

Yeah, I just wanted to know if their sickness shows up on my list of NPCs, or if I have to go check on them myself. Turns out their illness shows up on the list without talking to them, as long as you already know they exist.

The shotgun? hmm, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the tip. I did try the hacksaw with the bleed but found there's little respite to regaining stamina during combat, especially if there're range shooters and if they keep popping up in some fights. Using bite hold the other mobs, even the boss, at bay for a while as stamina regen. P.S. Since you posted that image, I guess that's the good ending. Bad ending being her dead or something. Since this is a train ride, I think I can stop playing.

Obsidian Gryphon That scene is in every ending but plays out differently depending on your choices. It's not about the destination, it's about the journey, as they say. No, really, the story is nicely told and discovering how everything is connected is rewarding. I like the story better than LiS but maybe that's because teenage drama is waaaay in the past for me and not something I personally experienced. However, I would say most people find LiS more emotional because of the bond between Max and Chloe that I found very relatable (I've known my best friend since we were two years old, over 30 years ago). Reid and Lady Ashbury isn't quite that tragic and heart-breaking. Vampyr has the better plotting and less obvious villain. The villain in LiS was painfully easy to guess. Things are way more nuanced in Vampyr. It could have been such a nice game without all these gameplay issues.

I'll put the game on ice for now until they put in more patches or whatever.
