- A Maine fisherman caught an extremely rare lobster but it won't be eaten - Mike Billings said he threw back a translucent white lobster caught Tuesday - He decided to throw it back in the sea off Stonington because it was too small - Albino lobster appears translucent because there is no pigment in its shell
A Maine fisherman says he caught a rare, nearly see-through 'ghost lobster,' then threw the crustacean back into the ocean because it was too small to keep.
Mike Billings hauled in the lobster Tuesday morning off the coast of Stonington.
The odds of landing an albino or 'ghost' lobster are 100-million-to-1.
The lobster's unique coloration is likely caused by a genetic condition that results in the partial loss of pigmentation called Leucism.
Billings says he took pictures of the lobster, and then threw it back into the ocean according to the The Portland Press Herald.
He said the lobster was too small to keep, so he threw it back overboard.
The Maine Coast Fisherman's Association, wrote: 'This lobster probably has a genetic condition called Leucism which isn't a total loss of pigment (which would make it an albino) but instead a partial loss.
'This is why you can still see some hints of blue on the shell and color on the eyes.'
Adding: 'A normal lobster gets its color by mixing yellow, blue, and red protein
'Through different genetic mutations you can get a blue, yellow, or red (uncooked) lobster. You can also get strange mixtures of those colors as well.'
This is not Billings' first encounter with odd lobsters, as he previously caught one blue claw in 2014.a rare calico lobster in 2014, the same year he caught one with one blue claw.
The pincher claw appeared to be small for the size of the lobster, meaning the original claw was likely destroyed and a blue claw regenerated in its place. The same year, he caught a rare calico lobster.

BRASILIA, Sept 2 (Reuters) - A 200-year-old museum in Rio de Janeiro was hit on Sunday by a massive fire, images from television station Globo showed, threatening its collection of more than 20 million items ranging from archeological findings to historical memorabilia.
According to Globo's website, there was no information yet on potential deaths, injuries, cause of the fire or extent of damage at Rio's Museu Nacional.
The fire broke out after visiting hours and was still raging and appeared to be growing Sunday night.
Representatives from the fire department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The museum, which is tied to the Rio de Janeiro federal university and the Education Ministry, was founded in 1818. It houses several landmark collections including Egyptian artifacts and the oldest human fossil found in Brazil. (Reporting by Bruno Federowski Editing by Bill Trott)
The carcasses of 87 elephants have been discovered near a Botswana protected sanctuary, killed and stripped for their tusks.
The elephants were discovered by Elephants Without Borders, a conservation nonprofit. The organization said they "discovered the alarming rate while flying the Botswana government aerial [elephant] census."
"I'm shocked, I'm completely astounded," Mike Chase of Elephants Without Borders told the BBC. "The scale of elephant poaching is by far the largest I've seen or read about anywhere in Africa to date." Many of the elephants were killed within the last few weeks and three white rhinos in the same area were poached and killed within the last three months, according to an Elephant Poaching Incident Report Reference written by Chase and obtained by NPR.
"All carcasses [were] presumed to be poached, because all of them had their skulls chopped to remove their tusks," writes Chase. "Poachers tried to hide their crimes by concealing the mounds of rotting flesh with drying bushes."
"The varying classification and age of carcasses is indicative of a poaching frenzy which has been ongoing in the same area for a long time," the report says.
Botswana is home to the largest elephant population in the world, according to the Great Elephant Census, a report conducted by Elephants Without Borders and the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation. The country holds 37 percent of its continent's endangered elephant population. Elephant populations in Africa declined by 30 percent — around 144,000 elephants — from 2007 to 2014.
The same report says 84 percent of all elephants in the continent were sighted in legally protected areas, like the ones the 87 elephants were poached in. The carcasses were found near the Okavango Delta wildlife sanctuary, a biodiverse international tourist destination of over 22,000 square kilometers.
Botswana disarmed its anti-poaching unit in May, one month after President Mokgweetsi Masisi took office. The country previously had a shoot-to-kill policy against poachers. The BBC reports a "senior official in the president's office, Carter Morupisi, told journalists in Botswana at the time that the 'government has decided to withdraw military weapons and equipment from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks', but he did not explain why."
Large-scale poaching was rare before the policy was rescinded, reports the BBC.
"The poachers are now turning their guns to Botswana. We have the world's largest elephant population, and it's open season for poachers," Chase told the BBC.

- Callum Pooley, 19, threatened to stab his father in the head after row with mum - Court heard that Pooley became angry at his mother after being served lettuce - Pooley's sister had to separate her brother and father following an altercation - Pooley managed to avoid jail but was warned by the court for his behaviour
An angry teenager has avoided jail after threatening to stab his father in the head after he was served lettuce for dinner.
Callum Pooley was at home with his mother and sister when he was given salad by his mother.
The 19-year-old became angry after being given a healthy option for dinner, a court heard.
Howard Shaw, prosecuting, said: 'He took exception to that and turned abusive, turned violent, started punching the door, threw the salad, turned the table over, and was verbally abusive towards his mother. He was told to leave and did so.'
Pooley's father was then called home, where he packed up his son's clothes and handed them to him on the doorstep when he returned, Hull Crown Court heard.
The teenager became angry again, with the youngster arguing not all of his clothes were given to him, among other complaints.
Pooley then made 'threats to smash the windows, kicked a blue recycling bin and produced a fish-paring knife', the court heard.
Mr Shaw told the court that Pooley's sister managed to get in between Pooley and their father, but the teenager 'threatened to stab his father in the head'.
His father replied: 'If you want to be a man, act like one and walk away.' Pooley threw a punch at his father but missed.
Pooley is said to have climbed into the back garden where he cut the washing line with the knife, which he later said was so he could 'hang himself'.
Police arrested Pooley where he admitted to being abusive to his mother. During a police interview, he was 'angry being given what he said was "a piece of lettuce" for his tea'.
His father raised concerns for his son's welfare with witness care, the court heard.
Responding to a possible application for a restraining order, Stephen Robinson, for Pooley, said: 'The defendant has been in touch with his family. They speak nearly every day and he has entered the property - ironically for his tea - without any problem whatsoever.
'The defendant would submit this might get in the way of a tentative reconcilliation.'
Mr Robinson said of the background to the incident: 'He was bullied as a youngster, and rightly or wrongly he feels he didn't receive the support he needed. Whether that's right or not perhaps doesn't matter.
'It's something that's grown in the defendant's mind and led to difficulties which ultimately resulted in the offences on this occasion.'
Pooley, of no fixed address, admitted threatening behaviour and possession of a bladed article. He had a caution for threatening behaviour in April last year, and was sentenced to a community order last December for dwelling house burglary, which was still in operation at the time of his latest offences.
Recorder Gavin Doing revoked the previous order and Pooley was sentenced to a two-year community order, which included 150 hours of unpaid work and 30 days rehabilitation.
Pooley was warned by the judge if he returned to court he would likely face jail.
A series of Facebook posts were made on Pooley's Facebook account poking fun at lettuce references from the hearing yesterday.

- Kind-hearted officer pays for woman's gas as she has just $3 to fill up her tank - He discovered the pensioner's husband has died and she was 'really struggling' - Gas store owner shared story online in response to 'negativity' towards officers
A Michigan police officer received widespread praise for helping an elderly woman who didn't have enough money to pay for gas.
The woman, whose husband recently died, only had $3 in change when she stopped at a Citgo in St Clair Shores on Friday, according to a Facebook post written by gas station owner Seth Kazz.
A police officer standing behind her in line overheard the amount and approached the woman as she walked back to her car.
The woman told the officer that her husband recently died and she had been left to pay all of their bills.
According to Kazz, the unidentified widow said that she fallen behind on her bill repayments every month.
'After a few minutes of getting to know one another, he realized she was really struggling and didn't have any gas or money left,' Kazz wrote.
Moved by her story, the officer went back inside the gas station and bought the woman $20 worth of gas.
Kazz decided to share the exchange in an online post in response to 'all the bad stories' and negativity towards police officers.
The post has been viewed more than 40,000 times and has been shared by 18,000 Facebook users.
Kazz added: 'This $20 really helped her! She would of most likely ended up running out of gas.
'Nowadays there's so much negativity towards police officers.
'No one respects them. We hear all the complaints and 'bad' stories. I'm not saying every officer is perfect, I'm sure some are at fault at times.
'We all make mistakes- but we should all respect, appreciate, and thank them for what they do.'
Kazz has since set up a GoFundMe account to help the elderly woman, with $2,405 out of a $5,000 goal raised to date.

- Nine lionesses launch vicious attack on male leader at West Midlands Safari Park - They sank their teeth into him and tore at his flesh in bid to kill-off leader of pride - Female lions in the wild kill their male leaders when they've become too old
A gang of lionesses have been filmed launching a vicious attack on a male after deciding they wanted to kill off the leader of the pride.
Terrifying footage showed the females sinking their teeth into his flesh and tearing at his fur after pouncing on him at West Midlands Safari Park.
Safari workers had to step in and spray fire extinguishers at the beasts to break up the ferocious attack after the male was left bloodied and battered.
It's possible the female lions were trying to kill the male because he was too old to run the pride.
In the wild lionesses will often kill their leader if they think he's past his prime and can no longer rule them properly.
However, Mya Beverstock, who caught the attack on film, said the females may have pounced on him after a dispute over food.
She said: 'It pretty much happened out of the blue. It was feeding time and then suddenly we heard growling a raoring.
'Two other males stepped back and didn't get involved while the females attacked the leader. He may have ate before his turn.
'Safari workers dealt with it very quickly. Three jeeps ended up in the enclosure honking there horns and driving towards the lions to break them up.
'One of the jeeps spraying them with a fire extinguisher which ended up mostly breaking up the fight.
'We did go around the park again afterwards and all the female lions had been removed from the enclosure and it was only the three males in there.'
In February this year a pride of lions charged towards a car at the same safari park.
Abi Tudge, 23, and her friend Jaz Reynolds, who had arranged the trip as a treat for two children they were caring for, watched in shock as the big cats bounded towards their Hyundai.
The women claim they were trapped in the enclosure for nearly an hour after rangers closed the gates to deal with the 'agitated' and 'aggravated' animals.
Heart-stopping footage shot by Miss Reynolds, 28, showed them leap on top of the bonnet and roof leaving behind a huge paw print-shaped dent.
Miss Tudge, from Hereford, said they were left feeling shaken and feared the car's windows could have been smashed by the animals during their visit on Wednesday to the popular attraction in Bewdley, Worcestershire.
West Midlands Safari Park confirmed the exit of its drive-through lion enclosure had been kept closed 'temporarily' because of the animals' proximity to the gate but stressed no-one had been in any danger.
A spokesman added: 'The male lions have been in the process of being mixed with the females for a few months now.
'This has been going well and there was no reason to believe that there would be any issues yesterday as a result of mixing. As with all wild animals, normally harmonious groups can on occasion become particularly active.
'This is constantly monitored closely by trained staff who are always in the enclosure when guests are too and will intervene if necessary.
'There was an experienced member of staff within the enclosure and at no time were guests in any danger.'
The odd thing about the video is that the male isn't fighting back as they attack him.

The family of a mother and her three children killed by a lorry driver changing the music on his phone want motorists to witness the seconds before their death.
Footage shows Tomasz Kroker ploughed into parked cars while looking at his handset on the motorway in 2015.
Tracy Houghton, 45, and her sons Ethan, 13, and Joshua, 11, died alongside her partner's 11-year-old daughter, Aimee Goldsmith.
Aimee's mother, Kate, remembers the day police told her that her child was dead in a clip police shared with Surrey Live.
'I continue to see drivers using their phones and it sickens me,' she said. 'If they had seen the devastation they brought my family, or to other families, by using phones, illegally... distracting themselves from driving a potential weapon... would they be as sickened as we are?'
Ms Goldsmith's son Jake witnessed the A34 crash as he was in the car behind with his father.
Jake watched his sister Aimee, step brothers Ethan, 13, and Josh Houghton, 11, and his father's partner Tracy Houghton, 45, die in the horrific smash.
Ms Goldsmith said: 'He [Jake] was in the car behind. He witnessed his sister dying, his best friend, his best friend's brother and his dad's partner. How do you recover from that?'
'Don't use your mobile phone while you're driving. You'll kill yourself or someone else.'
Also in the video is Ethan and Josh's father Doug Houghton and their auntie Vicki Hopkins.
Mr Houghton said: 'The amount of pain and heartache I've gone through is kind of immeasurable.
'You still see people using their mobile phones. Does it take someone to be killed for people's ideals to change?'
Vicki Hopkins said: 'I've lost my nephews who were a big part of my life. People don't understand the impact that this has not only on the immediate family but on the whole family, their friends - hundreds of people.'
The family were tragically killed when a lorry driver, changing music on his phone, crashed into their car.
The driver, Tomasz Kroker hit the vehicle the family were travelling in and they were killed instantly. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The appeal is part of a week-long enforcement campaign targeting mobile phone use.
Inspector Chris Huggins, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: 'We are extremely grateful to the family for supporting our campaign and telling their heart wrenching story and the impact their loss has had on their lives.
'This case highlights the devastating consequences of using a mobile phone at the wheel and what life is like for those families and friends who lose a loved one.
'I hope those people who continue to ignore our warnings listen carefully to this family's message and take note so that no one else has to experience their pain.'

A Maine restaurateur is getting her lobsters high on marijuana before boiling them as a way to give them a “kinder passage” to the plate.
Charlotte Gill, an animal-rights supporter who has owned Charlotte’s Legendary Lobster Pound in Southwest Harbor for seven years, told the Mount Desert Islander newspaper that while she still boils or steams her lobsters alive, customers can request for their lobster to be sedated first.
“I feel bad that when lobsters come here there is no exit strategy,” Ms. Gill said. “It’s a unique place and you get to do such unique things but at the expense of this little creature. I’ve really been trying to figure out how to make it better.”
“The animal is already going to be killed,” she said. “It is far more humane to make it a kinder passage.”
Next season, Ms. Gill hopes to sedate all of her lobsters before cooking them by using an air mattress pump to infuse marijuana into their tank water.
“For this new process though, in order to alleviate any and all concern about residual effect, as we will be dealing with the chemical compound THC, we will use a different method,” she said. “THC breaks down completely by 392 degrees, therefore we will use both steam as well as a heat process that will expose the meat to 420 degree extended temperature, in order to ensure there is no possibility of carryover effect (even though the likelihood of such would be literally impossible).
“I’m not selling an edible,” she added.
Ms. Gill, who holds a medical marijuana caregiver license with the state, is using her own product that she grows in order to guarantee its quality, the Islander reported.
“The difference it makes within the meat itself is unbelievable,” she said. “Everything you put into your body is energy.”

- Karanbir Cheema suffered a serious allergic reaction at school in West London - 13-year-old was severely allergic to wheat, gluten, all dairy products and eggs - He went into anaphylactic shock at William Perkin C of E School in Greenford - He was unconscious throughout the time paramedics battled to save his life
A popular boy with a severe allergy to dairy died after he was 'chased with cheese and had it thrown down his T-shirt' at his school, an inquest heard.
Karanbir Cheema, known as Karan, suffered a serious allergic reaction in Greenford, West London, just before midday on June 28 last year.
The 13-year-old was severely allergic to wheat, gluten, all dairy products, eggs and all nuts, and was also asthmatic and suffered from atopic eczema.
The coroner was told the fatal incident had been 'pupil on pupil' and that the other student had since been removed from the school.
He went into anaphylactic shock at William Perkin Church of England High School in Greenford at about 11.30am.
He was unconscious throughout the time paramedics battled to save his life, St Pancras Coroners' Court heard.
Today the inquest heard from paramedic Kierin Oppatt in advance of a full inquest which he cannot attend.
Mr Oppatt told the hearing that the 999 operator was told it was 'just an allergic reaction' but when he arrived Karan was 'gasping for air' and had broken out in hives.
The young boy was unconscious and stopped breathing shortly after the Mr Oppatt and his colleague arrived.
Senior coroner Mary Hassell asked the witness, one of the first paramedics on the scene, to go through the tragic events.
Mr Oppatt said: 'The call came in at 11.40am. We arrived on the scene at 11.47am. The call came in as just an allergic reaction.
'On arrival at the scene I immediately knew it was life threatening and that the patient had a high risk of going into cardiac and respiratory arrest.
'We were told by school staff that perhaps someone had chased the patient with cheese and had proceeded to throw it down his T-shirt.
'That he had an allergic reaction, that he was itchy, his skin was very hot, and that he was having difficulty breathing.'
'Staff had administered two spoons of Piriton, an epipen and given him his inhaler.'
Mr Oppatt added: 'When we arrived we saw Karan lying on his back on the floor with teachers around him. He appeared to be in a state of pre-arrest.
'He had very slow respiration - he was gasping for air. His skin was red and there appeared to be hives.'
Realising the severity of the situation, Mr Oppatt knew he had to call for help but had to go outside because his radio could not get reception.
Mr Oppatt said: 'I went to the vehicle and called the communications centre and informed them that our patient was in cardiac and respiratory arrest.
'And that I required the assistance of an advanced paramedic and additional crews at the job.'
He then returned to help his colleague and said: 'I was in the process of drawing up inter-muscular adrenaline when I was informed by my colleague that Karan had stopped breathing.'
The pair began to perform CPR on Karan, gave him adrenaline and Mr Oppatt used a defibrillator while they waited for back up to arrive.
He said: 'From there I turned around and took his shirt off and placed the defibrillator pads on his chest.'
After this he began compressions. When additional crews arrived, Karan was taken on a stretcher to the ambulance and was unconscious throughout.
He died with his parents by his hospital bed in Great Ormond Street Hospital ten days later on July 9.
Another boy, also 13 at the time, was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but has not been charged.
Detective Sergeant Christian Rodgers while going through a list of potential witnesses with the coroner ahead of the full inquest said: 'The person involved is no longer at the school.'
Outside court he said: 'It was pupil on pupil.'
Karan's mother Rina Cheema, a qualified accountant, his two brothers and sister were at court today.
Earlier it was reported the 13-year-old Manchester City fan even had his own fridge and microwave at the home he shared with his mother and grandfather.
Speaking outside St Pancras Coroners Court where part of Karan's inquest was held, Rina Cheema, 52, said: 'I am devastated as a mother after losing my son and my family have lost their brother.
'He was a very, very bright young boy. He was so bright he could have been anything he wanted. I brought him up by myself. I trained him to read all about his condition. We want answers.'
A family member, who did not wish to be named, said: 'I've never met anyone like him in my life. He would have done anything for anyone. He could have been anything.
'He loved taking things apart and putting them back together, he loved music. He would have done something out of this world, he was an extraordinary child.
'He was extremely bright - he knew very well how to manage his condition. He wanted to be a barrister but then changed his mind when he saw the size of the books.'
Ms Cheema plans to highlight awareness around anaphylactic shock following the tragic death of her son.

- The creatures are seen rolling around on the edge of a kitchen shelf in India - They both rise up on their back legs and slap each other with their forelegs - One gets the 'upper paw' by jumping on to a higher shelf and taking aim
This is the hilarious moment two rats square up to each other before having a 'boxing' match' on the edge of a kitchen shelf in India.
The rodents are seen grappling, sparring and rolling around in a cartoon-style fight.
But then one drags the other across the shelf before they bizarrely both rise up on their back legs and slap and strangle each other with their forelegs.
One gets the 'upper paw' by jumping on to a higher shelf and taking aim from there.
The fight took place on top of a kitchen rack, four-foot up in a storeroom of a house in Uttarakhand in India.
Prashant, the owner of the house, said: 'What amazed me the most was that the rats were fighting like humans with their hands up in the air and slapping each other as any humans would do during road rage.'
It is common for fights to occur after an influx of hormones where both rats are cross, and neither is willing to submit.
They work on a hierarchy and it is best to not try and split up their fights.
However, rats are also compassionate and look after injured rats in their group.

- Pervert was filmed upskirting the young woman on some steps in the Philippines - Opens camera app on phone before turning to side to get best angle for photos - Accidentally set off the flash while pressing phone against ear before running off
A pervert was caught upskirting a woman while pretending to talk on the phone after the flash went off.
In the clip, filmed in the Philippines, a group of people are sitting on some steps inside a large hall, with a woman sat on a step slightly above a man.
Unaware he is being filmed, the creep opens the camera app on his phone and places it against his ear before turning his head and subtly taking pictures up her skirt.
He pretends to be talking on the phone while repeatedly turning to the side to point the camera towards the woman who is sat with her legs slightly open.
But while taking another image, he accidentally sets off the flash, alerting the woman to what he is doing.
She immediately shuts her legs and the pervert gets up and walks away from the steps.
The clip has gone viral on social media, racking up nearly one million views.
One individual commented on the clip: 'Haha. You can see on the phone’s screen that he was using the camera. He was probably scared, that is why he ran down the steps!'
This guy is going to get his a$$ kicked some day...I hope someone films it.
