Lifesaving locks: Indian man with 62FT-LONG hair says his dreadlocks have helped save a drowning boy's life after he fell into a pondBy Debbie White | Updated: 10:29 EDT, 3 May 2018 - Savjibhai Rathwa, of the Gujarat state, has become a local attraction - The 65-year-old has refused to cut his hair for more than 50 years - Each hair wash takes a mammoth three hours and requires 240ml of shampoo An Indian man who downs six glasses of milk a day to keep his 62-feet-long (15m) hair in top condition has revealed how his locks once helped pluck a drowning boy to safety. Savjibhai Rathwa, of Vadodara, India's Gujarat state, has become a local attraction because of his lengthy tresses, which he has refused to cut for more than five decades after being visited by a deity in his dreams. The 65-year-old explained: 'I was 12 when I got the swapnadesh (direction in a dream) from Lord Shiva that I should never cut my hair. It is since then I have been growing my hair.' Although keeping his locks in good shape is a mammoth task – each wash takes three hours and requires 240ml of shampoo – Rathwa reckons ‘everybody, including family and friends, have been cool with my ever-growing hair'. And people have been drawn to the city in which he lives, to see his Rapunzel-like locks for themselves, particularly after seeing online videos of him unravelling his hair and allowing it to be stretched out all the way down the road, with eight people required to hold it up above the ground. Rathwa claims his hair has saved the life of a young boy after he fell into a pond at a local wedding ceremony. 'I almost intuitively started opening my dreadlock and even before someone could bring a rope, I hurled the loose end of my lock towards the drowning boy. Once he grabbed it, I started pulling it and slowly brought him to safety,' he explained. 'Maybe I was destined to save this boy's life using my dreadlock. Maybe this is why Lord Shiva had showed up in my dream asking me not to cut my hair some fifty years ago. 'I dedicate three hours every alternate day to wash my hair. Each wash takes 30 pouches (8ml each) of shampoo, just to ensure that my hair isn't dirty and smelly. This burns a hole in my pocket, but I keep long hair for a hobby. It is my faith and it should be maintained at any cost. 'I hate to keep my hair dirty and, luckily, I have my grandchildren to help me.' ...

'I'm a princess': Teen who demanded a $231,000 SUV for her birthday says her mother is forcing her to live like a 'peasant' after she cut her monthly allowance from $5,000 to $1,000By Erica Tempesta| Updated: 03:26 EDT, 3 May 2018 - Nicolette, a 15-year-old from Beverly Hills, California, appeared alongside her mother, Nina, on Tuesday's episode of Dr. Phill - The teen argued that her mom should be giving her at least $2,500 a month because she 'works all the time' and doesn't do anything for her - Nicolette has grown up with a driver, a nanny, personal trainers, designers clothes, and credit cards without any credit limits - 'It's the only life I've ever known,' Nicolette said A spoiled 15-year-old from Beverly Hills insists she is being forced to live like a 'peasant' after her mother cut her allowance from $5,000 a month to $1,000. Nicolette dragged her mom, Nina, on the Dr. Phil show to argue that she should be giving her at least $2,500 a month because she 'works all the time' and doesn't do anything for her. 'I want my mom to understand that I can't live off $1,000 a month, and I grew up on a certain lifestyle. She can't just take that away from me immediately,' she told Dr. Phil on Tuesday's episode. Before her appearance on the talk show, Nicolette told the cameras that her mother raised her with everything she ever wanted, including 'amazing schools,' a driver, a nanny, and personal trainers. 'It's the only life I've ever known,' she said. Nina admitted that she gave her daughter credit cards without any credit limit at a 'very young age,' and some months the bills would be up to $10,000 — despite her already having a $5,000 allowance. Her daughter loves designer clothes and shopping on Rodeo Drive, and Nicolette proudly rattled off pieces from her designer bag collection, including a couple Chanel bags that cost about $5,000 a piece. Nicolette said her favorite handbag is her Céline Micro Luggage Tote Bag, which cost about $3,000. 'I keep it on a chair because it's just so special,' she said. 'I literally think of it as my own child.' ... While speaking to Dr. Phil, Nina said she spoils Nicolette because she has always felt guilty about being a single mom who works six days a week.
Its stories like these that make me wish for a zombie apocalypse. Yeah I would be in hell, but those people would be in triple-hell.

'I'm a sprinter, you'll never outrun me!' Debonair hero in a tuxedo who chased down a mugger after he stole a woman's phone reveals he used to be a 200m track starBy Rod Ardehali | Updated: 16:50 EDT, 3 May 2018 - Hero in a tuxedo filmed chasing down a phone snatcher in High Holborn, London - Lewychino Martey-Thomas, 35, was on his lunch break when he saw the robbery - The former 200m high school sprinter ran down the mugger and arrested him - Social media have been quick to praise the suave Good Samaritans' actions The hero in a tuxedo who chased down a phone thief has revealed he is an ex-sprinter who warned the mugger: 'I'm a former track star, you'll never outrun me'. Speaking to MailOnline, Lewychino Martey-Thomas, 35, said he heard a commotion while having a cigarette on his lunch break and realised a mugger was trying to flee. The debonair hero, who stepped out in a double breasted two piece with cufflinks and a bow tie, bolted after the robber who had snatched a woman's phone. Mr Martey-Thomas said: 'I was on my lunch break smoking a cigarette in High Holborn where I work for a suiting company when I heard an older woman screaming 'my phone, my phone' and sounding as if someone was hurting her.' Once he jogged over he saw other Good Samaritans' stopping the thief from getting away and took control of the situation and began questioning the thief. 'The guy denied having a phone so I took over and and calmed the situation down. I said to him 'I'm placing you under citizens arrest, where's the phone?' 'Then I put a little bit of pressure on him and squeezed him up until he pulled it from his trousers.' Eventually, the would-be phone snatcher realised he had been snared and asked Mr Martey-Thomas for a cigarette to settle his nerves. 'He asked for a cigarette and I didn't mind - I'd want one if I was about to be arrested. But I warned him 'don't run I was a track star at school, I will catch you.' Mobile footage captures the moment the mugger put Mr Martey-Thomas' words to the test and made a break for it, forcing the former 200m high school specialist to chase him down through Holborn. 'Once I caught him, I told him again 'I was a 200m sprinter, don't ever try and outrun me again, it's not going to happen.' Unknown to the have-a-go hero, onlookers had begun sharing the event online, with some praising his actions on Twitter. While he admitted that the woman, who was in her early fifties and taken to hospital as a precaution, praised his actions, telling him: 'There should be more people like you in this world.' Mr Martey-Thomas added: 'I'm not a hero, I'm just a positive community man.' ...
He doesn't always catch criminals on his lunch break, but when he does he's impeccably dressed for the occasion.

Colleges offering pet rocks, slime, and ‘llama love-ins’ to de-stress for finalsby Anthony Gockowski | May 04, 2018 02:37 PM As students approach their finals, colleges across the country are offering new and creative ways to “destress,” filled with slime, bubbles, and llamas. The University of California, Berkeley, for instance, recently hosted a “llama love-in” for students before finals, with video of the event showing students lining up to pet llamas. “The students are sensing the llamas’ magic. And when the love starts going back and forth, it’s the real thing,” an organizer of the event said. Meanwhile, the University of Nebraska, Lincoln offered students a “stress-free zone” that included coloring books, chair massages, stress relief toys, and even slime. Binghamton University is hosting an entire “stress-free spring,” featuring events such as “create a chia pet” in which all attendees are educated on “the benefits of having small indoor plants.” Other events provide students with aromatherapy, destressing lotions, cake, as well as cookies and milk. Wichita State University is in the midst of a “finals frenzy” with events like “splatter your stress” for students to paint, “stress-free karaoke,” rock painting, and bubbles. “The residence halls get lonely sometimes and it sucks that you can’t have your pet with you, so stop by and make a pet rock to keep you company through finals. You can even keep one in your car for those long trips by yourself,” one event description states. Shenandoah University, on the other hand, will help students “destress for success” by helping them “decorate” their own cookies, while Bridgewater State University offered “cupcake decorating” and “friendship bracelet making.” The “stress-free zone” at the Illinois Institute of Technology will offer a “Yell like Hell” event as well as “arcade machines.” Several other universities, including Penn State University, the University of Arkansas, and Roosevelt University, host “destress fests” with comfort dogs, face masks, and arts and crafts.
In my day they'd set-up big coffee urns while we studied.

To be fair, we had dorm matrons. During finals and comps our matron would set out cookies and other treats as well as coffee. It was quite lovely. Sadly they got rid of the dorm matrons about fifteen years ago.

I did the episodic for that at my local TV station it was rich (pardon the pun) what she was spewing out of her mouth. I really can't fathom whey the mother needs advise, I mean it's simple... Cut her allowance, make her get a job and say "NO" to almost everything she says. Agreed. I suggest the mother rent an apartment (1,200/mo.) for 1 year for her daughter and kick the juvenile out of her house. Let's be generous and allot a $775 USD monthly allowance for food ($25/day), no credit cards, and the daughter is responsible for her own utility bills. A job at Walmart should cover the monthly util. bills just fine. The daughter can take public transportation to get around town, or bum rides off her 'friends'. At age 18 (or maybe 19 or 20 y.o.) all child support ends completely. Of course the real cause of the daughter's behavior is the mother AND father. The parents should get 6 months (no parole) in jail for child neglect. Money does not replace parental neglect. I went to a private high school and had classmates who were similarly 'paid' and neglected by their wealthy parents. Actually, the parents aren't parents at all; they're just biological chromosome donors with a destructive guilty conscience. Actually, they have no conscience at all. JM2C.

The county seat of Cook County was originally named "Puddleville". That is a big hint as to how they (do not) think down there. Also, spelling our state's name "Georiga" goes over about as well down here as spelling Ontario "Albreat". Just FYI. Pro tip: If you, as a foreigner, run afoul of US law enforcement, ask the officer to contact the county attorney (district attorney)'s office. It's a reasonable request and the officer should be willing so to do.

It's odd how such methodically flawed studies get into prestigious journals like the Lancet.

What if the pound of cure is in fact a pound of chocolate?

What if the pound of cure is in fact a pound of chocolate? I think it pays to be proactive in that case. Especially if the chocolate has almonds.

Teenager who eats caviar for breakfast gives up her £2,000 allowance to live with a single mother on benefits for a reality show - but checks into a hotel instead after REFUSING to sleep on the sofaBy Molly Rose Pike | Updated: 15:56 EDT, 8 May 2018 - Angelina Green, 16, spends her £2,000 monthly allowance however she pleases - She was sent to live with single mum Amy, 19, who lives on £150 weekly benefits - At first she struggled to cope and moved into a hotel to avoid sleeping on a sofa - But she was later able to do the weekly food shop at Lidl on a budget of just £30 A teenager who fritters away her £2,000 allowance on designer shopping sprees swapped her lavish lifestyle for life on the breadline as part of a reality TV experiment.
Angelina Green, 16, from London, enjoys jetting off on sun-soaked holidays, splashing out on high-end clothes and thinks nothing of indulging in caviar for breakfast - all at the expense of her wealthy parents.
So it is of little surprise she found herself struggling when she was tasked with spending two days living with cash-strapped single mother Amy Gannon, 19, as part of 5STAR's Rich Kids Go Skint.
Amy relies on a weekly benefit payment of £150 to cover the cost of bills, essentials and food for herself, her three-year-old son Mason, her disabled mother and their pets.
And while Angelina and her family think nothing of spending hundreds of pounds on meals out, Amy carefully budgets £30 for the weekly shop at Lidl.
Angelina, who admits she simply needs to ask her father if she ever wants to top up her generous allowance, was put forward for the experiment by her mother so she could learn to appreciate how fortunate she is.
But the experience got off to a rocky start when she refused to spend the night on the living room sofa at Amy's Housing Association home.
Instead Angelina checked herself into a nearby hotel where rooms cost more than three times her host's weekly food budget.
As she climbed into the plush double bed, she said: 'I'm go glad I'm here [in the hotel], I really couldn't bring myself to stay there.'
Despite her luxury sleeping arrangement, Angelina was soon confronted with the reality of Amy's lifestyle and quickly realises her privilege.
Amy, who discovered she was pregnant just days before her sixteenth birthday, receives £150 a week in benefits. Some £120 is spent on bills, leaving £30 for food and luxuries.
She explained that if she has a little leftover she spends it on sweets for her son, or on a new toy from the local charity shop.
While Angelina brought with her a £800 Barbour jacket and a tin of caviar to have for breakfast, Amy has worn the same £15 jacket for eight years.
But Amy said she is discouraged from finding a job because the cost of childcare would leave her financially worse off than she is on benefits.
The stay-at-home mother was left shocked at her visitor's lack of life skills when she asked her to help with the housework.
Angelina struggled to work the vacuum cleaner, admitting she has never used one before. And once she is shown how to by Amy she quickly stopped, saying it is 'boring'.
She also gave up helping Amy with dinner when her arm started to hurt while grating cheese.
Amy said: 'I was quite shocked when she couldn't use a vacuum cleaner, I thought she was messing around because I thought everyone had vacuumed at least once in their lives. Rich or not.'
However Angelina made progress by the end of her stay, successfully completing the family's weekly food shop at Lidl for just £28 - £2 under budget.
She was also struck by thestruggles Amy has overcome after the young mother revealed she has suffered from depression from the age of 13.
Amy credits her son with saving her life, admitting she was on a downward spiral before his birth.
Angelina praised her resilience, saying: 'She's had to go through it a lot at such a young age and I'd hate to be put through that situation. I'm really grateful I have people I can rely on and who I know are there for me.
'She's literally had no one to help her and shes had to go through it all herself. It's amazing how anyone her age can do that.'
Since the show stopped filming the pair have stayed in touch and Angelina has started to help around the house and now donates to food banks.
