Good games yesterday, the only question left is who is going to be the 4th team in the nat champ playoffs. Bama, Clemson and Ohio State will be there. The last spot is probably between Notre Dame and Texas A&M. Knowing the selection committee they will go with Notre Dame due to rep and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ but I think A&M deserves it more. I like Ohio State, have ever since I took a trip to Cleveland in 1993...the year the Jays won their second World Series, and the last year of Cleveland's aptly named "Mistake by the Lake", otherwise known as Municipal Stadium. Now I know it's a mix of baseball and college football in this post, but I remember hearing the OSU game on the radio and we went to a clothing store and they had tons of Buckeye's gear, which I really liked. And I especially liked the colours of red, silver and white. Plus my favourite golfer, the player with the most majors (18) and the most Green Jackets (of course I am speaking of none other than Mr. Jack Nicklaus, the Golden Bear himself. He was a graduate of Ohio State University.) But bringing this back to the all important topic of NCAA Football and the Ohio State Buckeye's......Yes they are undefeated at 6 and 0- but they have only played half of the games that other teams have played who are 10-0, 10-1, 11-0 etc. Why should some teams be required to fulfill an 11 game regular season schedule (especially during this COVID time) while Ohio State gets by with six games? That doesn't seem fair. Not to mention that much like Notre Dame who are now 10-1 with a loss to Clemson yesterday (but whose wins have not been very impressive in play, and they have been inconsistent...hot and cold, with only Book's play-making ability to hold them together). And really...The Irish were damn lucky to win over Clemson back in NOvember, because look, it took them Triple OT and a last minute touchdown and PAT to squeak out the 47-40 win-- against a CLemson squad that had been completely dominant all year, and was down a combined total 11 of their starting players both of X and O, not to mention two of their hottest Wide-outs, their defensive captain in Skalski and their true team leader in Lawrence. Then take last night's game with both squads fully 100% healthy.....Aside from an early INT thrown by Lawrence, he was masterful for the entire rest of the game and many of his team had their moments, so nobody can say "it was all Lawrence". Both teams gave it their all, both teams were healthy....and look how Clemson dominated the Irish, all but taking the "Fight" right out of them by the 2nd Quarter and into the 3rd, until the game was called at a final score of 34 to 10 for Clemson. If The Irish pull of the upset of the year against Alabama and face Clemson again (which let's face it, I don't think anyone wants to see. This isn't going to be "ALI v. Fraser III" neither boxer was the same even after the 1st..... I just don't see much appeal for a 3rd go of ND v Clemson. And I can't stand 'Bama.....Or more aptly, Nick Saban. I liked him when he coached LSU, but since his move to 'Bama.... (don't get me started). If anyone wants proof of a "sore loser", just look at the post-game sideline interview with Tom McShay from 2018 when (Saban) whined "Oh it wasn't fair! They cheated! The refs called a dirty game and they were running plays that we never had time to practice and that we have, in the past, never been very good at defending against. So it wasn't fair." (while picking his nose). And he repeated himself during the post-game press conference, complaining that the Tigers ran plays that his players couldn't defend against so it wasn't fair that they (the Tigers) had an advantage and were better prepared. I mean, talk about a complete lack of class. On the other side.....When Dabo loses (such as their 2018 loss to Syracuse, which was a shock to everyone) the FIRST thing he said was "I have to congratulate Syracuse because they came prepared tonight. They played better than we did, we didn't have our best stuff and we got beat fairly. We didn't have our best stuff, we made mistakes on both sides of the ball and thy made us pay for it. They deserved the win, they're a great team." (THAT is how you lose....with class, dignity, respect and still have the winning spirit and attitude. Not to mention the full heartfelt respect and love of every single player on your roster. Even the 5th string players and redshirted walk-ons that have to wait four or 5 years to get a starting spot, and don't transfer out because they get beat for their position.) I have to agree with the Fish on this one, I think Tex A&M were more deserving of the #4 spot than Ohio State. They've been a Cinderella story this year like NorthWestern was last year, because let's face it they're historically never highly ranked even in the old AP Voting format....But this year they have been impressive, and played with both guts and heart.

I am so right now. Clemson lost to Ohio State- not only did they lose, they got marmalized! 49-28. Clemson is my #1 team has been since Dabo Sweeny took over in 2009...and they are always a top-ranked championship team. But tonight was just sloppy. Confusion on the Defensive Line that allowed OSU to find holes wide enough to walk through, miscommunication between Lawrence and his receivers...and some really stupid penalties (like the definite Targeting call/hit from Skalski to Fields. He got ejected for that before-- leading a tackle with the crown of his helmet, and yet he does it again. It seems to be a recurring theme with him.) All in all....just really underwhelming, unimpressive and generally mistake-riddled sloppy play from Clemson. Sad to see that this was Lawrence's last game in Tiger orange; I wish they could have one one last one to cap off his amazing Collegiate career. But if Ohio State plays 'Bama the way they came out for Clemson tonight...they will certainly give the Tide a run for their money, and maybe Saban will actually earn the title this year and accept it with grace, humility and dignity while showing respect for the other team. My hopes are with Ohio State now.

Ohio sucks. They'll wish they were ranked number 11 after Bama gets done with them I agree, Ohio does suck. Ohio State (there's a difference) on the other hand doesn't. Though I fear I will have to agree with you on this point. I like 'Bama, in so much as they are a good team and I respect many of their players this year such as Mac Jones and Najee Harris. The only person I don't like is Nick Saban. When I root against Alabama, I am rooting against Nick Saban specifically. But I fear I will have to agree with you on this point that Alabama is the better team and will in all likelihood come away with the Championship. Great for the players, but as far as I'm concerned Nick Saban doesn't deserve it. His 2018 loss to Clemson and how he comported himself during the sideline interview with Tom McShay says it all. He complained that his team lost because Clemson "cheated by designing plays that he couldn't defend against. They were running copy-cat stuff that other teams had done against them in the past, which Alabama had difficulty defending against and that that was unfair and shouldn't have been allowed. They won because they cheated and that the refs called a 'dirty game'." All the while picking his nose. What? You just expect your opponents to hand you their playbooks so that you can stop every play they call? What's the matter that you can't stop them any other way? That's the whole point of the game, to design and run plays that your opponent can't stop! And do you think so highly of yourself that you should just be handed the Championship trophy every year and not have to play for it, fight for it....earn it? If Clemson was able to beat them that year that so soundly as to win 44 to 16, all that says is that he came unprepared that night. He thought he was the Head Coach of Alabama and had a sense of entitlement that blinded him. He wasn't prepared as well as he should have been, and he made mistakes that Clemson capitalized on. Good for them. If they can do that then they deserve the win. The very least he could have done is to lose with class and dignity and show respect to his opponents for their impressive winning play.I found it interesting that in the 10 minutes or so between that sideline interview and the Post Game Press Conference that year.....he totally changed his story; as if someone took him aside before he got to the tables, and spoke to him about his regard of Clemson and his accusations, because when he was asked the same line of questioning from the Press....He totally changed his tune, he couldn't say enough good about them. It's funny to watch him during Pre-Game sideline interviews...He's very well-dressed in a nice suit and he speaks very eloquently and favourably about his opponents and his players. He's very well-mannered, though it's well documented that he has a strong dislike for Maria Taylor who has a history of asking him some very direct questions, which he never answers and because he doesn't have an answer, he gets very flippant and rude with her. Professional, classy lady that she is, she just takes it all in stride and continues the interview without skipping a beat. Then you see Saban on the sideline throwing a temper tantrum, yelling, swearing, picking his nose and smashing his headsets. As long as he is the Coach of The Tide, I will continue to root against them.

Bama was going to kill any team they face this year. They are by far the class of college football
In defense of CLemson, they didn't bring their best stuff that night. It was clear to see that after coming away with a marginal lead in the first quarter, they got arrogant, sloppy, lazy and forgetful in the second.....Made notable by the sloppy tackling, totally forgetting to line up on X and not cover their assignments-- standing dumbly in the middle of the field while their opponent blew right by them to stand completely alone....alone in the end zone. That happened at least twice that I saw. And then there was the bone-headed move by Skalski to lead a tackle with the crown of his helmet and get himself ejected for Targeting (this is exactly what happened last year, as well as in other big game scenerios)....He seems to have a history of losing his head and doing things that are highly questionable- enough to get himself ejected. This is now two years in a row; you think he would have learned from his mistake last year. Obviously not. It was huge and costly mistakes like that....everything combined that cost Clemson the win over Ohio State. But I do agree (again) that Alabama has been an excellent team this year, and whether they faced Clemson or another team in the Championship Game....they would more than likely have (or will) come away with the victory. Yet that doesn't mean that Clemson sucks. Look at their record since Lawrence's arrival....six straight ACC Titles, 2 Nat'l Championships....The All-Time Winningest QB in ACC history (34 straight) (along with Ettienne who is the all-time ACC Leader in Rushing Yards)....Those are impressive stats. A program and players of that calibur doesn't "suck". Were they the best this year? For much of the season they were....they only started to show craks in their armour in November when after a series of injuries to their starting line-up on X and O (including their Captain and starting QB Lawrence coming down with COVID), they lost to ND. But even then that game was to two OTs and they only lost in the closing minutes with a score of 47-40. Then they came back and bear the Irish soundly for the ACC Title this year winning 34-10 and both teams were healthy and fired-up. So who then is the better team? My money would still be on Clemson because of their record against ND in the past. Are they the best now? Obviously not, as their play and sound loss to Ohio STATE has shown, but again let's not forget that OHIO STATE has only played half the number of games required, and an argument could be made to have put Texas A&M in the #4 spot instead for many reasons. Now does that mean Ohio State sucks? No, because look at their play in those 7 games they've played? Even I will admit their play against Clemson was very impressive and Fields in particular played with guts and heart after that illegal hit by Skalski. But again, Alabama has been virtually perfect this year and has proven time again that they are the team to beat this year...I will agree with you on that point. And to clear things up once and for all about the whole "Ohio Sucks", I am presuming that you are meaning to say "Ohio State sucks".....because, yes there is a difference. They are two (or more) very different teams. There are several University Div. 1 teams from Ohio. To name only a few there is Ohio University "Bobcats", Miami (Ohio) "Red Hawks"....(Not to be confused with the Miami Hurricenes in Florida)...and then there is The Ohio State University, or more simply Ohio State "Buckeyes". and within the entire state of Ohio, it is The Ohio State University that is seen to be the premiere University of all of them.........Just wanted to clear up that misconception.

I just hope Fields is 100% for the game. Wonder if any NFL team's even going to look at Skalski after that.
Speaking of the draft, how come Mac Jones isn't ranked higher? There are rumors he could go to the Pats, who are only picking 15th.

Nick Saban leads his team to another possible Championship. Say what you want about the guy, his team is always at or near the top, year after year. Even after losing the number of assistants he has in the past, he's still able to get the team on top or near the top. From above. I remember his interview with Maria Taylor. Yes it was messed up he got bent-out-of-shape about the question. Thumbs up to Taylor for taking it in stride. He did apologize later for that. I was surprised the Tide didn't score more against the Irish, but then again, they didn't need to. It was good to see the Buckeyes beat Clemson. I will give Fields a thumbs up for showing his toughness after taking that hit. Only time will tell if that will effect his play on Monday night. The only way to stop Alabama is to constantly get in Mac Jones face. On the flip side, he does get rid of the ball very quickly. So it will be a balancing act for the Buckeyes. Will the Justin Fields from Friday night show up or will it be the Justin Fields from the Northwestern and Indiana games show up? He performed below average in those games having several interceptions. The other thing to consider is his running game. Will the hit he got against Clemson prevent him from running? If so, then the only thing the Tide needs to stop, at least when it comes to the running game, is slow down Sermon. If Justin is able to run and pass, then it could be a problem for the Tide since they are known to have problems with mobile QB's. On defense, the Buckeyes will need to figure out how to stop DaVonta Smith. If they are able to, then they still have to contend with the other receivers who are capable of making big plays. On top of that, there's Najee Harris the RB who can make a big play at any time. If Justin is able to run and pass without any issues, it will be a close game. Tide 38 Buckeyes 31 If Justin plays like he did against the two teams I mentioned above, it won't be close Tide 48 Buckeyes 16 Mac Jones will be drafted in the 1st round. Who would take him? Depends on what sources you look at. I saw one site say he could be drafted by my Panthers. Time will tell. One of the reasons why he's not near the top of the draft list is his lack of mobility. He has ran a few times, but was a last resort kinda thing. But that's alright. Just look at a few of the QB's in the NFL that aren't very mobile who have had success. #1Alabama Crimson Tide vs #3Ohio State Buckeyes - @800pm Monday night Jan 11 ESPN www.espn.com/college-football/game/_/gameId/401240174

I have to hand it to him, he coaches and organizes a top-tier program that is as you said, year after year at or near the top. I agree with that 100%. But I was talking about him from a personality and character perspective, I don't like or agree with his behaviour and how he treats people-- or appears to treat people, whether intentional or not I don't know I am not a mind-reader and I don't know his heart. But based on his outward behaviours and his treatment of others I don't hold him in high regard. Now, I respect Mac Jones because a few weeks before their game against ND...he got word of a girl in high school who was a die-hard Tide fan who had been in a serious car accident and was badly hurt. He called her at the hospital to wish her all the best and a speedy recovery, see how she was doing and said he wished she could be there to watch the game. He also sent her an autographed football as a 'get well gift'. An act of kindness and generosity such as that shows a lot of class. No matter how he plays on the field, what his national ranking is or how many records he holds....If a player (Professional or College) does something like that, they are deserving of respect. As far as the "duel threat" running-QB in the NFL....It was really only Cam Newton that started that trend in modern ball....But in decades previous, of all the Hall of Famers- Joe Montana, John Elway, Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw, Roger Staubach, Ken Stabler, Joe Naimath, Joe Theismann and many others.......None of them were actually considered a dual threat like for example, Cam newton, Robert Griffin III, Tua Tagvialoa or Jalen Hurts.....so I don't really see the "dual threat" QB being too much of a threat in the NFL the way it is in the NCAA. Is it possible, do they run? Yes. But it's not as heavily factored in to designed plays in the NFL as it is in some College programs. I do think that in regards to Skalski's concerning habit of leading tackles with the crown of his helmet (especially in big games, when his leadership on Defense in needed and looked to), I do think that he would be served best if Dabo or Venables benched him and spoke to him privately...because that kind of behaviour and action taken on the field appears to be becoming a bad habit, and you're absolutely right-- if he continues to do this type of thing...it's going to hurt his chances in the Draft and no NFL Head Coach is going to want a player who is continuously disqualified from play for the same infraction-- especially one that can be so dangerous to both him and his opponent.

Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban says WR Jaylen Waddle has a chance to return for CFP title game www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/30656764/alabama-crimson-tide-coach-nick-saban-says-wr-jaylen-waddle-chance-return-cfp-title-gameAs far as the guy who hit Fields. I agree with the punishment he got. Was that the turning point in the game? Maybe. Look at a year ago when the Ohio State player got ejected from the game for doing something similar. It seemed to be the turning point that led to Clemson winning. I get Skalski is trying to stop the player from advancing the ball any further, but using your helmet is looking for trouble. In the NFL, particularly with Seattle Seahawks, they train to tackle with their shoulders instead of using their helmet. It prevents possible injuries to both players.

Re: Skalski's hit on Fields, I couldn't agree more. Targeting isn't always at the head though that is where it is most common and most dangerous. It can also be to the rib/hip or spinal area like it was with Skalski/Fields. But ANY tackle where a player leads with the crown of his helmet and/or leaps off his feat (like they do in hockey) should be called for Targeting an a Game Misconduct. It's dangerous hits and penalties like this....leaping off your skates/feet from the field/ice to make forcible contact with another player who is typically in a defenseless position....That should absolutely be called 100% of the time. I remember when Todd Bartucci made that hit (on whom I forget) but he leapt off his feet and crosschecked a player from behind at the neck/shoulder area...slamming the player into the boards head-first and it broke his neck. In my opinion, he should have been kicked out of hockey for that. Period. It's dangerous penalties and dirty hits like that in all contact sports that are endangering the lives of players and ruining the game.

I know . I haven't watched the game yet but I woke up at 1 a.m. to see the boxscore and I was not terribly impressed. I'd rather the score the other way around, but what can ya do? Said it before, I do not like Nick Saban....But the team, Alabama deserved the win; they played really well from what I saw on the box, just as they have all year so the players deserved the win this year. I'll just have to put my hopes in Clemson for next year and hope that DJ improves and becomes the next best thing. But Clemson has always had a really good recruiting class so I'm not terribly worried. It would be interesting to see how Lawrence does with Jacksonville. If they're smart they'll build their team around him, not like Cincinnati has done with Joe Burrow. I am impressed though with what Cleveland has done around Baker Mayfield though. Take a losing team like the Browns and transform them into a contender....That is how you build; I guess they watched Draft Day.

Rose-tinted glasses. Aw Shux Bobby was full of shit. A "Christian" that put winning before everything, including his student-athletes. The Tainted Title was really something, and the Learning Disability program during his tenure was really something. Oh, and several people have called him a racist, including a friend of mine who played for him. Boo hoo. My condolences to his family, and otherwise good riddance to bad rubbish.

Watched a bit of the Saints v. Jags.....Saw Lawrence in Jaguar colours for the first time, looks pretty good. Still needs to get accustomed to the speed at which plays open>develop and then close so very quickly at the Pro level in comparison to his College days when he had all week to heave the ball 80 yards down field. But I can see that over time he will become as good in the NFL as he was in College. I'm sure he has a very bright and promising NFL future ahead of him.
That being said, I'm much more of a College guy myself so I am looking forward to seeing the Tigers take the field again this year with DJ at the helm under Center.

It appears the Jags offensive line, the same one from last year, are up to their old tricks. Failing to protect the QB, poor communication between each other about who is blocking who. Lawrence didn't look too good. My suggestion to the coach is call some quick pass plays to get him use to the speed of the game. If the game is anything to go by, Lawrence will be eating a lot of dirt throughout the season. Looking at their schedule, I would say their first game is a must win against #5Georgia. They lose the game, they have no ranked team to play for the rest of the season. It would be hard to convince anyone they belong in the playoffs with a weak schedule like that.

They lose the game, they have no ranked team to play for the rest of the season. It would be hard to convince anyone they belong in the playoffs with a weak schedule like that. Just took a look-see at the Clemson schedule this year. I agree with you they will need to win against Georgia if they want to validate their contention and remain ranked within the Top 4 seeing how GA is their only high ranked oponent this year. But based on close games or upsets from previous years.....especially now that they have to face off without the likes of Lawrence and Ettienne who really drove the team-- DJ has greatness in him....But he's still a relative newcomer and doesn't quite yet have his feet on solid ground so he will need to rely on his teammates who have come up through the ranks under Lawrence's tenure....But they're going have to battle against Syracuse and Pittsburgh in particular-- maybe even the Irish. But in my view their toughest games in terms of on field challenge are going to be PIttsburgh, Syracuse, Georgia and maybe Notre Dame. The others like UConn and South Car State are probably a walk in the park. Nevertheless, I am excited for the start if this season next weekend. With so many great players from all over having gone on to the NFL.....Each new Class that comes in is an exciting (and also frustrating) time to watch. USC is a great example. Under Pete Carroll they were absolutely dominant. They've done quite well under Ed Orgeron...But they don't quite yet have their elite status back and the past decade for them has been frought with trials and disappointments. But since 2009 when Dabo took the helm at CLemson, they have become the team to watch. Them and 'Bama (I hate to say it........tastes like vinegar in my mouth ). The Tide are a great team and have been for a lot of years; I just can't stand Saban. I think Dabo Sweeney is every bit the talented Coach as Saban without the arrogant, self-righteous, sore-losing, nose-picking salty, whiney loose canon attitude. Aurburn had their year with Cam Newton, but they haven't been in contention for a long time. Let's see what happens.......

I missed recording the Clemson v S.Car game on Saturday but I checked the box score and I see they won...something like 45-3, so that's uplifting to see my team back in top form.

I have to say it was great seeing Oregon beat Ohio State. I wonder what upset will occur for week 3?
