OK, how many games have actually received support for 10 years?
World of Warcraft. And probably a bunch of Korean MMOs I don't care about.
I... guess... that is something for Anthem to aspire to.
But still asinine. How 'bout releasing a game that isn't a bug-ridden mess, first?

Most games get lucky to even last 3-5 years. bioware is going to have to make Anthem earn its 10 year support because saying so doesn't mean players will flock to them.

But still asinine. How 'bout releasing a game that isn't a bug-ridden mess, first? Starcraft 1, Diablo 2. Starcraft 2 is getting close. I agree with your point though. "Make a game so amazing that it's still relevant 10 years from now" is not a business plan. The games that hit that did so because they're genuinely amazing and unique. And they certainly didn't make it the core business plan - it happened organically. To even have a hope of doing that, the devs need to go all in on making the game as good as it possibly can be, with no conpromises to quality to generate quick revenue like EA tends to do.

But still asinine. How 'bout releasing a game that isn't a bug-ridden mess, first? and even then after all this time, World of Warcraft today can barely even be called the same game it was in 2004. So much has changed over the course of Blizzard supporting it for 13 years, and there is a not so insignificant number of people who don't like what the game has long since become. So telling me that the game will be supported for 10 years means nothing to me. Even if I do absolutely love it at launch, will it even be something I care about in 10 years after all the changes? Not to mention that as noted above, a game that lasts for 10+ years isn't something you "design for". Even World of Warcraft Blizzard has admitted that they didn't expect it to last past the first expansion, maybe the second at best when they were first making it. They were making it because it was just a game that they really wanted to make, even though at the time most industry experts probably would have told you it was a risky thing to do as MMOs weren't a terribly large market and many thought it was already locked down by Everquest.

The quote might suggest a long-term new direction and focus for BioWare. Their games are mainly single player with secondary MP features. Perhaps BW can redefine the MP scene... I'm very interested in how they might apply their storytelling and worldbuilding skills in a primarily MP game.

Wake me up when Anthem (1) does a public beta (2) releases in a post-beta state, and (3) receives more support than MEA got.

The most popular a game is ever going to be is that first two months. To me, that is crucial is this game is ever going to have any longevity beyond traditional sequels to a franchise. I assume Anthem will get expansions from time to time to flesh out that "10 year plan". I just wonder if Anthem fails what happens to it?

It won't be a game, but rather a franchise they plan to publish during the next decade is what I say.
