I agree, Isabela is so sweet. Her romance with Hawke is also one of the best. They really complement each other. The thing I love about DA2 romances is that the dynamic between Hawke and the LI is so different based on which companion you choose to romance.
By the way, lemme tell you a story about Isabela and my first DA2 playthrough. Not that it relates to anything, but anyway:
Story of my first DA2 PT
I think this was five years ago, in 2012. I got DA2 for my old desktop computer because I was a bored university student and needed a distraction. I did not have high expectations - that was the time when I had a cooler relationship with BW. However, I was intrigued by DA2 - I liked the dialogue wheel, the fully-voiced protagonist and the rather unusual story.
I remember how I first recruited Isabela. She just swept me off my feet from the very first exchanges. She was fun, good-looking, and, exceptionally for a BW character, she was also relatively untroubled. Back then, she was hands-down my favourite BW companion. And she had some great chemistry with Hawke, especially when Hawke flirted with her. I remember her coming to Hawke's mansion and proposing some girly fun Naturally, I was thrilled.
But back then I was also completely clueless about how the game actually worked. I had no idea that her romance could only be finalized in Act3, and she saying that she did not want to get tied down only confused me. And when she escaped with the relic, I was completely crushed But I was also pretty impressed by the drama of it all - I had been used to rather straightforward and even boring romances, and now I was given something completely different! Still, I felt betrayed by Izzy and my Hawke drifted for Merrill after that, who was also very lovable. It was such a shock to see Isabela return, though! But I was already locked in with Merrill, and it wouldn't be until years later that I would romance Isabela properly.
For some reason, I never actually finished the first PT. I remember hating the combat system intensely, especially the enemies which spawned from nowhere, and I think I got stuck in the Pride demon fight in the docks in Act3. Back then, I liked the characters and the romances, but apparently not enough to bother finishing the game Ah, how times have changed
End of story
And the moral of this story is: Some things you only learn to appreciate with time
