Are there any new roleplaying games that posters here can recommend?
I prefer immersive games with female protagonists, humour, romance and great characters. Explicit sex isn't necessary nor is explicit combat. Genre is not especially important. I do like games that can be modded. By way of example, I really liked DAO (didn't we all?), Neverwinter Nights 2, Planescape Torment and Pillars of Eternity. Fallout: New Vegas was great fun when it didn't crash.

There isn't romance in Horizon Zero Dawn but it meets your criteria otherwise. I love the Dragon Age Trilogy and I was still quite happy to play and even considering a replay. Beautiful world, music, compelling story, and best combat mechanics I've ever played. If being an Archer rogue was like HZD in Dragon Age, I'd never play anything else.

Seconding the recommendation of Shadowrun: Dragonfall.
If you don't mind some older games, the old point and click adventure The Longest Journey has a very likeable heroine, interesting world building, some adorable humor and just a dab of romance. No modding though.
Divinity: Original Sin has two customizable protagonists (who can argue with each other), some really involved quest lines and humor aplenty. Didn't notice any romance though, but then again, I haven't finished it yet.

Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (First Chapter) s19.postimg.org/kgvxijmyr/The-_Legend-of-_Heroes-_Trails-in-the-_Sky-_Free-_Down.jpgThe (female) protag is a lovable compulsive and hot headed ditz(one of my fave fem-protags in any game) and the cast of characters includes a less trashy equivalent of DA Isabella and a character that's a mix of DA's Zevran(complete with bisexuality) and Witcher's Dandellion, who's my fave character in the franchise(and one of my top fave game characters of all time). There's an element of non-player initiated romance that features in this but it's more prominent in the sequel (Second Chapter). The gameplay is traditional JRPG turn based combat with some light strategy RPG elements (the characters can move around in a grid during combat). The chapters in the game are structured a lot like Witcher 1 and 2, where you end up in a hub and have to do various contracts from the Bracer guild* board before advancing. *Protag is part of the bracer guild, which are benevolent mercenaries basically.

Also, Tyranny. You kinda play the villain (or at least the villain's lackey) but you aren't stuck on the evil path if you don't want to be. No romance, though there is some flirtatious dialogue

If you end up digging the game, there's Trails in the Sky SC and Trails in the Sky the 3rd to play after it, and not only that, but a sequel "arc" is coming to steam as well (Trails of Cold Steel I and II, and possibly III). Also forgot to mention that Trails in the Sky has a Final Fantasy VII materia-esque magic system as well.

I bought the Shadowrun series (Steam sale) and am looking at some of the others. Thanks for all the recommendations! Trails in the Sky looks especially tempting, but I'm not sure if I can justify two purchases.

I can personally recommend all of them, though they really improved from dragonfall onwards.

Persona 3 Portable with Female protagonist (best protagonist) EDIT: 'Course you need a PS Vita for it so I guess I would also recommend Trails in the Sky too, or Tales of Berseria.

I would love a version of the game with 3D environments and cutscenes with the female protagonist and all the content added in the portable version.

I should try and speak a case for Tales of Berseria and why mousestalker should play it.
The thing about the Tales series is that there is a lot to like about it, if you're BioWare fan, or at least I thought so when I played Vesperia. When the games are good, they are good and will probably sit right with people who like BioWare. It's not because of a romance angle, but because of the "skits" and the interesting characters and how the story is generally built around them and their actions.
The skits are essentially the equivalent of "banter" in BioWare games, where the characters in your party will and assess their current situation or converse about something completely irrelevant. This can range from humorous to dramatic, sad and all other ranges on the emotional spectrum. It builds character and makes it easier for you to care about these characters and what happens to them. In Vesperia's case, it was the characters that made up for the otherwise inoffensive story. Berseria presents a nice balanance of a dark, grim, revenge story and shady, morally questionable but still likeable main characters.
The most morally questionable of them all is its female protagonist Velvet, who despite her ridiculous outfit, is a really interesting character. What happens to her and how she develops are among the cornerstones of what is great about the game. The combat is easy and accessible for people new to the series as it can be customized however you want it. If you want it to be really easy and just enjoy the story you can do it like that.
All in all, I'd advice to check it out!

Can't really say. So will say old ones... though you have probably already played them... or not since many are not true RPG's... at least I don't think they are: Beyond Good & Evil Broken Sword 1-5 Grey MatterHydrophobia ProphecyMirror's Edge Duology Prey (2017)Remember MeReturn to Mysterious Island Duology Runaway- A Road Adventure Triology Secret Files TrilogyThe Longest Journey Trilogy
All these games are games where the main protagonist in each is female. Most of these games are not all hard-core 0RPG but do tell rather good stories -only however when the whole series is played out to see. These also may not all be hard-core RPG but some do have elements of it. Those in Bold are Third Person Games Those in Italics are First Person Games Those that are Underlined are Adventure/P&C Games Though again if you have played them all my condolences but maybe at least one there may interest you. Also some can be modded... The Secret Files can be done with Texmod for example.

3 other games, I forgot to mention: Dishonored - stealth-action; the canon throws away player's choices each time; Venetica - an RPG, something between Fable and Gothic - some bandits burnt down protagonist's village and vengeance is in order. The Age of Decadence - an old-school turn-based RPG. The demo is available and it includes the 1st chapter (1/3) of the game.

You should check the two Drakensang games, The Dark Eye and The River of Time. You can play female, they are party based, they offer engaging stories, memorable quests, nice lore and very likeable companions. Unfortunately there isn't any romance but you can still grow very attached to some of them. Moreover if you like games that can be played in many ways you will love them since there are so many options available, both for combat and for character progression/customization and you can choose between different ways to finish every quest according to which one fits better your character.
The first game, The Dark Eye, is a little linear perhaps while the second one is semi-open world. Both of them are composed by big contained areas, full of side quests but in the first game every time you choose to leave one of them you must be sure to have finished everything since they are closed forever after the main quest is done. In The River of Time, at the opposite, they remain open and you can come back from time to time in order to pick new quests and so on.
I think they are among the most underrated (if not the MOST underrated) games ever.

I'd like to mention Alpha Protocol. It's got a male protagonist but it's a fairly unique game as it's the only modern day spy RPG I am aware of and it fits all your other criteria (including lot's of romance ). If you ever wanted to play a James Bond movie as an RPG, this is the one. I am also surprised your OP didn't mention the Mass Effect games or Jade Empire. They may be too obvious to mention on a BW board but just saying, they should be right up your alley.

I was around when they were about to release the first game, but the amount of companion content was too light. Did they stick to Aurora engine or upgraded the graphics over time?
