Welp, I climbed a Robo-Giraffe last night! That was awesome. And I did a couple vantage points and let me tell you, boy am I relieved that they aren't just copy/paste boring tasks like in Assassin's Creed games cause that's what I was expecting. I like how you activate the focus and you get to see what that particular place looked like in the metal world days and you get a little story snippet with it. Such a nice touch! Still haven't done much story wise because of stuff like this. It's too interesting just exploring. The main mission says I'm supposed to be level 12 I think? I'm like level 14 or 15 haha Yes that is awesome those Tallnecks are very cool and the view is absolutely amazing one thing though don't try to destroy one because it is not possible i've tried and failed miserably. True those vintage points are indeed a very nice touch. Yes also true it's a lot of fun to just explore the world of HZD.

I didn't mind the scanner in MEA, I actually liked it, but I feel like a combination of the focus and the MEA scanner would be the best. I like the readouts and such that the MEA scanner gives and I like the coverage and look of the focus.

I'm like level 14 or 15 haha You’ll far out-level the main story. I can’t imagine not doing any exploration and side quests, and they give XP. You’re already seeing it early in the game. In most games, I use recommended levels as a way to identify things that are out of reach. The viewpoints tell one unified story of one person’s life in the final days of the Metal World. There’s actually a text file attached to each. That’s where the story is told. (You may have already noticed this.) This game is so full of great details like this. Some of the long dead characters are among my favorites.

I can't wait to find out more about what happened and about such places like that ruin from the tutorial where you find all the people who killed themselves rather than "take their chances outside"
It's far more interesting so far than whatever is happening in the main story. I have to go help Sona kill more bandits, after I just helped her with bandits. And then go to somewhere and ask about meridian. Not all that interesting so far in that particular arc. Probably cause it's still in the beginning stages I guess.

Time for a second playthrough using NG+. This is such a good game. Can't say I find it very easy to get screenshots off a PlayStation, 10x the faff of an Xbox...

Moving your files to a USB and uploading them to a site like imgur is too much work? I actually really appreciate the simplicity of it, it beats downloading your stuff off the Xbox website any day (especially for someone with not the greatest internet).

Pleasantly surprised with how many "Hey, it's that VA!" moments there are in TFW. Brian T. Delaney (Male Sole Survivor) is Enjuk. Jennifer Hale (FemShep) is Lauvuk. Cherami Leigh (Asuna, Suzuha, Ilia) is Ikrie. (The last one also counts as a fun Steins;Gate reunion) Speaking of which, how are the NPCs in this game so memorable? Gildun, Varga and Ikrie quickly made me wish we had more content with them in the expansion, same with Petra in the base game. Maybe it's because I have a preference for Oseram and Banuk characters in general, but they all really stood out to me as having far more depth and character than you usually expect to get with most NPCs in games?

I actually really appreciate the simplicity of it, it beats downloading your stuff off the Xbox website any day (especially for someone with not the greatest internet). Yep. Way too much work for me simply to share some pics on the BSN. Not worth it. I don't even browse on a PC, but rather a phone or tablet. I don't own an XboxOne, so I can't compare. Pleasantly surprised with how many "Hey, it's that VA!" moments there are in TFW. Brian T. Delaney (Male Sole Survivor) is Enjuk. Jennifer Hale (FemShep) is Lauvuk. I love HZD's NPCs. I've read a few comments here and there saying that they were uninteresting, forgettable, etc... I've never understood. I think they're fantastic. It's made me wonder whether those individuals played the game beyond the Embrace. The list of great NPCs in HZD is very lengthy. Every character, living or dead, major or minor, felt very alive and sympathetic to me.

A great majority of the NPCs are very memorable, far many more than I tend to expect from these kinds of games. Some were incredibly memorable like Talanah who more than made up for the quite few that didn't make any lasting impression

Idk, at my current point in the game... still the only interesting npcs I've come across were at the beginning in Rost, Bast, and Vala. Haven't been to the banuk area yet and only just got to meridian so hopefully I'll start seeing these memorable NPCs. EDIT: Oh and Varl, I think his name is, the guy who accompanies you on the football stadium mission.

Varl and Nil are the highlights of the Nora lands, though I do like others (Fia, Jun, Marea, the Keepers of the Hunting Grounds). Carja territory is more populated with NPCs and interactions. A ton of game lies ahead. The Frozen Wilds raised the bar in many ways. They took feedback and improved the game in pretty much every way. Facial animations are dramatically improved. NPCs are more animated and even more memorable. The visuals even seemed slightly more crisp, though that may just be my perception. The game is stunning throughout in UHD.

Keep an eye out for the green “!” whenever you approach a bandit camp. Nil doesn’t appear at every camp, meaning you can miss him once or twice and still get the whole experience.

I'll have to get that DLC if they upped the facial animations because that's probably my biggest complaint on the game. The faces look very... Andromeda-y minus Aloy's lol Yeah, between the occasional wonky facial animations, the Cauldrons being very Remnantesque, the Focus helping us (like the omnitool) to scan, interact with tech and problem solve, as well as some amount of platforming needed to get about, it's kinda weird how people seem to overlook how much HZD actually has in common with MEA.
(Anyone also think it's a tad hypocritical that gamers tend to overlook the occasional odd facial animations in HZD, but constantly mock them in MEA? HZD's animations are generally better overall, but it doesn't seem particularly sporting when both games have this problem.)
Obviously, HZD is a better game that MEA in terms of story, gameplay and having more developed characters, but mechanically, you can definitely see the similarities between the two games.
HZD feels to me like what MEA should have been, if Bioware Montreal hadn't gotten stuck in development hell for 5 years, leaving them only 18 months to actually work on the game, which is why it felt a little rushed and unpolished. It just occurred to me to provide a Nil-related tip. Keep an eye out for the green “!” whenever you approach a bandit camp. Nil doesn’t appear at every camp, meaning you can miss him once or twice and still get the whole experience. I only seemed to encounter him on the first and last camps. How many times can he show up, was I simply missing him? HZD really got hammered for its facial animations. The thing was, it is just a much higher quality game than MEA. Plus, it wasn’t facing hordes of “fans” just waiting to be disappointed. I immediately noticed all the similarities in names and so on between the two. As you said, most of these are things HZD got right, while MEA was meh. I usually encounter Nil in the Nora/CO Springs Bandit Camp; the camp in the Grand Canyon area just East of Meridian; and in the Northwestern camp near Maker’s End. (I can’t recall the individual names of the camps.) There are other places you might see Nil if you interact with him at these locations. There are also people in the world who know him and will provide some context. Nil will discuss this revealed backstory if you ask him about it.

I thought the facial animations were fine in HZD. Some times the characters were actually pretty expressive. Miles better then the stone faced robots in Andromeda.
The one complaint I would give is that the characters tilt their heads way too much during conversation. It gets pretty bothersome some times.

The dialogue can go a bit backwards if you miss him though. In one playthrough, I forgot to meet him by the bandit camp out in the desert, but mistakenly came upon the prison south of Meridian, missing the dialogue with the warden about Nil, and then Nil brings up his backstory later, and suddenly Aloy doesn't know what that place even is. I guess the game didn't really account for exploration fiends like me who will skirt points of interest by miles, like a spiral going inward.

Sometimes they’re excellent, sometimes Aloy looks like she’s suffering facial paralysis. 😆 On the whole, I thought they were good. The eyes are very expressive, and that’s where I tend to be looking.
