Lol, this game has one guy holding the protagonist hostage, beats him and says in these words "people like you are the reason we need to build the wall".
I can see from a mile away this game will be a real hit with republican leaning people.

So, Captain Spirit isn't a prequel, but happens somewhere in the middle of the story, since Daniel already knows how to control his powers. Or Daniel used his powers unconsciously? but I doubt that. I wonder about the save import, if it's automatic or they'll ask in the next episodes...

Idyllic life of a Mexican immigrant family is upended by a racist white neighbor and racist white cop. And that doesn't even include the scene you saw! Totally unnecessary for the story.

My chocies: Kept the Choco Crisp bar for myself
Lied to Estaban (though to be fair, I hadn't intended it to be a lie)
Hugged Estaban
Didn't take money from the jar (didn't put any in either)
Questioned Daniel rather than confront Brett.
Didn't steal in the parking lot (though I did check the box)
Sent Daniel to beg for food
Didn't steal anything at the gas station
Ran away rather than steal camping gear
Called Lyla back
Promised Daniel I wouldn't lie to him again
Daniel: Learned about trailblazing Fell in the woods and got dirty Fetched wood for the fire Lost the wood race learned how to skip stones Didn't get mad in the woods Had an okay night Had to beg for food Didn't distract Doris Didn't eat enough Didn't get a Power Bear toy Didn't steal from Brody

I wouldn't exactly say unnecessary, but more like extremely prejudiced. This kind of portrayal isn't any less stereotypical then having a mexican character in the game with a shaved head, tatoos all over his body saying "ese" every five minutes. The fact this game was writen by a bunch of french guys makes the whole thing all the more amusing. I have the first season of LiS, but if the first episode is any indication of were this story is headed, I think it will be a hard pass for me.

I don't think I'll be buying it either, but I definitely appreciate the reference to Max, Chloe and Rachel they put in. About Season 2's reference for the original and BtS - spoilers for Max and Chloe: The new season takes place almost exactly three years after Max's adventure. During one particular scene, there is a chat between a friendly character and the protagonist that takes place on a roadside over a rather familiar looking small town.
This is of course Arcadia Bay, easily recognizable to a fan, and even people who do not can see a big ol' "ARCADIA BAY" written on the overlook's visual map thingy. Or, alternatively, a memorial, if you chose Bae over Bay.
As I said, depending on what you choose - whether Bay or Bae - the town is portrayed differently.
Either you have ruins and a memory plaque letting the dead know that "Time won't forget about you"... Or you get a tourist visual map. And of course Season 1 theme plays, just to make sure no eye remains dry.
It may have been a highlight of the entire Episode. Yes, I only watched it.

So LiS2 deals with themes of racism and prejudice towards marginalized people? Consider me sold
Can't say I'm surprised at the butthurt posts behind the narrative at this thread?

So LiS2 deals with themes of racism and prejudice towards marginalized people? Consider me sold Can't say I'm surprised at the butthurt posts behind the narrative at this thread? How can they be marginalized if the entire political, media, educational and artistic class is entirely on their side? A single acusation of racism in america is enough to screw over your life. And I'm not butthurt. I aways knew the devs behind LiS were progressive loony bins. I just never thought they were this obvious. Guess they get all their news from CNN and BBC.

So LiS2 deals with themes of racism and prejudice towards marginalized people? Consider me sold Can't say I'm surprised at the butthurt posts behind the narrative at this thread? That's just it, this family isn't really "marginalized". By all indications, they are: legal immigrants (well the father is, the kids were born in the U.S.) a loving, well-adjusted middle class family The kids have friends in school. Sean, the older one is on the school track team and is planning on going to a party at the start of the game. Heck at the start of the game I was marveling at how, after the first season and Before the Storm, with its largely absentee/useless/outright malevolent adult authority figures, this season would be a refreshing change of pace. That feeling didn't last... It's still an interesting story, don't get me wrong. But the injection of racism into the story is unnecessary and kinda heavy-handed.

Heavy-handed and extremely corny seems the LIS motto. If I hadn't played Vampyr, I would have said the developer just isn't good at subtle and nuanced. But Vampyr was not nearly as bad. In fact, hard to believe it's the same developer. Most of the NPCs in that game were fairly stereotypical too but it wasn't all black and white. The story was LOADS better. I enjoyed the atmosphere and narrative a lot. That said, I played LIS in one weekend I think, doing nothing else because for some reason it really sucked me in and once I surrendered to this ridiculously corny silly teenage angst drama, it was actually a pretty nice experience and made me cry. It had something going for it that I can't explain because "objectively" the writing wasn't that good and the time reversal mechanic completely nonsensical. So if LIS2 is more of the same, it can still be good enough.
I will definitely check out the first episode on YT before I decide. There are so many games I want to play already, it's super low priority. If I grab it cheap in two years that'll be just fine. I buy these piecemeal games only once all episodes are out anyway.

I suspect the writing is considerably better in games such as Vampyr because there is no space for politicization there, due to the setting and timeline, so they can focus more on creativity over preaching. When a writer tries to push their personal politics into a game, anyone that doesn't agree considerably with them will reject it in most cases. Hell, I'm a latino and I found this portrayal of average white conservative americans ridiculous.

If there are people who are still interested in LiS2, here are the release dates. Not sure why it's taking this long.

Enjoyed episode 3 a lot. A change of pace made a greater emotional investment in this one.

My ending seems to be pretty rare. I told Daniel not to use his powers and Merrill didn’t end up killing Finn. Only 5% of players got this outcome at the time I played and I have no idea what I did to get it.
Have to be honest, I told Daniel not to use his powers because that option in most cases lead to Finn’s death. I thought Finn was a terrible influence on Daniel and that his plan to use a 9 year old in a robbery was pretty scummy.
Speaking of Daniel, he’s getting a little too cocky and violent for my liking. He says he’s not a kid anymore but has angry outbursts using his powers knowing they could seriously hurt or kill someone. The minute he decided to hurt Cassidy because he was jealous how much time I was spending with her was when I said screw it and tried to really piss him off by letting Finn die. Turns out I was one of the ones that could get away with not using his powers and still have Finn survive.

I made coffee for the others after drinking the last cup. I hit the target while knife throwing. I tried to be understanding when Daniel mentioned Kate. I asked Daniel why he doesn’t wear his watch. I intervened when Big Joe slapped Cassidy. I trimmed a lot of weed buds. I helped Daniel clean the dishes. I didn’t ask Daniel to help with my chores. I was sober at the campfire. I stayed up late to get a haircut. Finn came forward when Big John hit Daniel. I was against the heist. Finn and I remained friends. I let Cassidy choose my tattoo. I had a midnight swim with Cassidy. Cassidy didn’t get angry at me. I kissed Cassidy. I went into Cassidy’s tent. I stole a vehicle without alerting Big Joe. I came in after Finn and Daniel broke into Merrill’s house. I didn’t take the gun from the safe. I did nothing and Finn lived. Cassidy was injured. Daniel waited for me in the morning. Daniel had help doing the dishes. Daniel refused to help with the tanks. Daniel went to sleep alone. Daniel disobeyed, used his powers and got injured.

I'm way behind. This season just isn't grabbing me like the first one did. There's only so much "Everyone's either racist, alcoholic, or a religious nut" that I can take.
I only played episode 2 (and the Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit) yesterday. Still haven't gotten around to Episode 3.

Late to the party, but I just played ep 1 of LIS 2. I was expecting it at some point, but geez, wait at least longer than the intro section before ripping my heart out. Love the family dynamic between the brothers and their dad, and Lyla was super cool (and sweet with how much she cares and worries about Sean and Daniel). I hope she'll still somehow make it back into the story.
Also, I do NOT trust you, game, ok? I don't believe for one second that you gave me the most adorable puppy imaginable without also planning to do some fucked up shit with it sooner or later.
Wish we could've stolen more from that piece of shit who ran the gas station. What a prick.
At least Brody was actually super cool and didn't turn out to be some serial killer/child molester.

Daniel is really pushing me to the limit with how much I'm willing to let things slide and be understanding because he's just a kid. He was seemingly ready to fucking kill Cassidy because Sean spent time with her? What the fuck dude? And now Sean only has one eye, Finn and Cass may or may not be dead after Daniel went nuts and we're probably going to have some drug cartel hunting us in addition to the cops. Great. I don't really know what to do with Daniel. On one hand, I want to be supportive and let him hone his powers (and CONTROL that shit, not what he's currently doing), but a) we need to keep a low profile and I'm worried that even moderate encouragement to use and control his powers will make him think any and all use of it is ok. Or maybe trying to keep him from using it as much and keeping it secret is making him more uncontrollable, I don't know. A 9 year old who throws temper tantrums over not being a kid anymore, who thinks he's invincible and that he'll just easily deal with the cops if they catch up with them, who can probably snap a human's spine like a twig with his mind on a whim and blow up a house? ...That is fucking terrifying. Cass and Sean were pretty goddamn sweet together though. Actually all of the crew were pretty cool, until Finn ruined his standing with me by getting Daniel involved into that heist bullshit. I'd probably be pretty cool with Finn not surviving that blast, maybe then Daniel might finally learn to fucking LISTEN and realize what a responsibility it is to have powers like that and that he can't just do whatever he wants. Cass had better not be dead though, she's a total sweetheart.
