I played the first chapter.
Chloe's life is a train wreck in slow motion. And I cna't help but think some of it is self-inflicted.

I'm surprised there's not more chatter about this game. It's a good game, but the story itself won't interest a ton of gamers imo.

Chloe fucked herself up in grief so bad it's... Really saddening.
You can tell through the dialogue she's clever. To the point of being way above most who actually flourish at BlackHell.
She can recite the Bill of Rights by heart. She remembers the periodic table by heart. There is proof that she WON a science fair while William was alive!
She's not someone who never could be fucked to school. She's someone who simply couldn't bother going to school in the first place after her dad died.

In episode 4 of LIS you find evidence that she is a straight A student - well in that reality. Basically the death of her dad drove her off the rails; Rachel got her on the tracks again to some extent it seems but I'd say it's Max (especially if you do the decent thing and kiss the woman when she asks) who gets her back on and moving.
This does mean that for me, BtS has a real tragic underpinning for every interaction between Chloe and Rachel.

I'm surprised there's not more chatter about this game. So am I to be honest. I'm going to be downloading it soon, seeing AngryJoe's review of Destiny 2 put me off from getting D2. Note: the sequel I've already played LIS.

Without the loss of her dad, she just kept going the same way. It's what makes it really sad.

I played last week, enjoyed it so much I then replayed the first game, then played it again. Took a little while to adjust to the new voice actors, but I stopped noticing it. If only LiS didn't make going back to other games so difficult

Finally got around to playing episode 1 of Before the Storm. So I really wasn't sure what to expect with this one, I loved the original game, but given this is a prequel made by a different studio, with different voice actors, and all...but wow, I'm impressed with the job Deck Nine did capturing the spirit and atmosphere of the original. So many little touches. The voice actress playing Chloe is different, but she's faithful to the character I think... Rachel is amazing, I just loved her. The only criticism I would make is her and Chloe's friendship/relationship felt a bit rushed towards the end of the episode... then again, it fits with their personalities and the intense connection they share. They obviously also have a lot of character development to cover over a 3 episode arc. But I fell in love with Rachel right away, it's great to see her character brought to life like this. She's such a mysterious and driving background force from the original game that we never got to see.

I'm definitely curious to see where this ends up, especially as we know they have 2.5 years more together. We also know that, given the letter Rachel writes to Chloe about meeting jefferson that they were in some form of relationship.

My impression was Chloe definitely had romantic feelings toward her at some point (and so did Frank), but it was never clear whether Rachel ever really returned them. It's nice to see in BtS that she does does...but I can also see where Rachel is the sort of person to push people away when she's in trouble.

Given the amount of relationships it seems she's been involved with, all of them where people have been used for one thing or another, I wonder if Rachel can actually reciprocate the same way. She certainly comes across as manipulative.

Despite all my misgivings going in, I loved it. Having the original VOs would have been ideal, but it was still great. It's good to be back in bittersweet Arcadia Bay. And yeah, the D&D session was fucking lovely.

My choices: I went along with Rachel's story about ditching, that it was all her idea
Emptied pockets at David's request (she wasn't carrying, after all)
Gave Damon the money. Not sure it was the right thing to do, since Mikey got hurt as a result.
Asked Rachel for her bracelet
Didn't talk to Eliot about the play.
Agreed t a fresh start with David (that sure didn't last long)
Didn't put the singing man on the dashboard of the truck (didn't even find it)
Didn't pay off the debt to Frank (gave the money to Damon, after all)
Told Steph that Rachel was single
Didn't return the money to Drew (duh)
Told Samantha to help Nathan (I figure at this point Chloe doesn't know just how f*cked in the head he is. Was treated to an ending scene of her waiting for Nathan after the play
Encouraged Victoria before the play (which gave Rachel the distraction she needed to dose her tea with her anxiety meds)
Told Rachel thy should go on a road trip
Rachel attacked James at dinner A few thoughts on this episode: What, exactly, do Chloe and Rachel want out of life? They want to leave town, sure. But then? What do they want out of life? Besides listening to music and smoking, I mean? They're angry at the world and dissatisfied with their lives, but seem to have no clear idea how to improve either.
I'm starting to think the fire is something of a metaphor for Chloe. The lack of consideration for the consequences of her actions will wreak destruction in her life.
I suspected there was more to Sara then meets the eye for a while. Though I suspected she was an undercover cop or a CI cooperating on a drug sting. I can't imagine the fact that she's Rachel's biological mother will further endear her dad to her.
Samuel had a surprising insight into Chloe: her anger is at least in part a mask. She's afraid of getting too close to anyone. She doesn't want to risk being hurt again. It's good that she's formed a connection with Rachel, but I don't think it's enough.
David is right I think that Chloe needs stability in her life, though he's failing hard in providing it. Too much stick and not enough carrot.

Finally managed to finish the Episode. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Choices: Got suspended for Rachel. I figured it happens anyway, so why not it be for the girl Chloe loved?
Refused to empty my pockets. I figured that it was the most Chloe course of action.
Gave Damon the money. I actually re-did this after seeing the other eventuality. I felt it was the least bad option. The other way ends up ending Drew's career - thus making things worse.
Eliot was Warrened.
Fresh start with David - for Joyce's sake
Did the singing man
No payment back to Frank - although in his book, my money is crossed off as I paid him back in Episode 1 with the stolen money.
Told Steph that Rachel was ALL MINE
Damon has the money
Told Samantha to help Nathan. She cares.
Got Victoria to drink the tea. Her collapsing was amusing; however knowing what can potentially happen to her in the future does give a twinge of sympathy.
Told Rachel thy should go to New York
Rachel attacked James at dinner
And of course, the most important choice: That's right, the full on double kiss version. Oh yes. And to ape Iakus, also some thoughts: I was having trouble believing if Rachel was genuine for Chloe. I think this episode (through the choices I made anyway) have laid that doubt aside. It makes so much sense why Chloe is distraught in the future. They both genuinely cared for each other; Rachel (at this point in time) genuinely loves her; or the idea of being with her. In the future maybe that dims with the passage of time and she seeks and finds others - almost father figures like Jefferson, who she has an affair with. Which makes a whole load of sense now.
Underlying this whole thing is the ultimate knowledge of Rachel's fate. It just gives everything such a tragic edge - as does knowing Chloe is heading towards a complete breakdown. Ugh.
When Max comes along - does she fall in love with her? Or is she so desperate for affection / to be wanted that she will take anything?
Also, on a side note - in my ending montage, Damon is seen giving the money to Frank, and Frank crossing off the debt. So is Frank actually the boss? Damon is his enforcer? Hmm

Crazy theory. Based on a bit I read yesterday. On how Max got her powers. Spoilers for Max's story. Rachel gave her the powers in order for Max to uncover the mystery of Rachel's murder.
However Chloe is supposed to be reunited with her. If you sacrifice Arcadia Bay, Jefferson isn't brought to justice, so she wreaks havoc upon the city herself in the form of a tornado.
But if you sacrifice Chloe, Max has enough proof back in the original timeline to bust Nathan for murder (obviously) and Jefferson for everything he did.
Thus it's Rachel's will for Max to uncover the murders, but Chloe is to be reunited with her.
