Mass Effect for me. My first RPG experience and nothing has quite matched it since. I agree with those saying there's not really a better game, it's a matter of preference. Mass Effect and Dragon Age have distinct styles, besides the obvious genre difference, the story telling and interactions have their own vibes. I'm poor at putting it into words.. but I personally feel a far stronger connection to Mass Effect and its characters, they feel more real. And playing through the Mass Effect trilogy was a cinematic experience, more so than Dragon Age - at least partly on account of having the same protagonist. Soundtrack, voice acting, character development, all contributors too. I'm also more fond of the science fiction genre than fantasy.. so, totally biased.
I do like the Dragon Age franchise and it does some things better than ME. But yeah, no hesitation in naming my favourite.

Doesn't look like I could get into Dragon Age so Mass Effect it is.

Here's another thing that makes ME better to me. Siding with different entities and factions is still a choice, even if it's difficult or you're subliminally told not to.
While with DAI, I feel like they've gone full out Umbrella organization with the Inquisition. It stands for nothing. Absolutely nothing. It's even worse than the Grey Wardens, who stood for nothing too -- but at least they had a real directive to keep them focused (killing darkspawn). DAO once created massive drama out of just acquiring the Reaver spec, but now they're running around as part of your Inquisition forces, along with everything else under the sun. Reavers and Templars and Dalish and Qunari all holding hands singing kumbaya. If Solas gets his way, it'll be even worse. Spirits and mortals mingled completely and everyone becomes some based mage hybrid. Bleh
Unlike Warhammer or D&D, Bioware seems to like to shitting on their own settings by falling love with their creations equally. They come up with hoaky ways to salvage all of it. Universalism, for lack of a better word. But I'm glad it's still avoidable in Mass Effect. And at least it's over. DA is only going to get worse.

Mass Effect.
I love all things sci-fi. Space ships, interstellar travel, guns, aliens, robots. Awesome. Dragon Age is medieval fantasy. Swords and kings and spells and shit? I hate that. Mass Effect all the way, baby.

I found the Reaper plot and the Mass Effect setting in general much more interesting than Dragon Age. The ME team also takes a lot more risks and I admire them for that, even if it doesn't always turn out well.

I'm not real big into medieval society. I don't much care for kings and queens having all the power, while the rest of us starve and die for them. And yes, I know that today's society can be seen as an allegory for medieval society re-aserting itself.
Even still, I've always like the idea of the unknown. Exploring parts of the map not yet filled in. Going places and seeing things no one else has seen. So scifi has always had more of an appeal for me.
I Liked DAO, don't misunderstand. But anything scifi always gets a preference.

This is entirely down to personal preference. It is hard to argue that one series is objectively better than the other. I personally prefer the Mass Effect series, but I can't find any argument other than my own bias. I've probably invested far more time playing Dragon Age, particularly DAO and DAI.

They're both equally terrible.
ME1 was good, ME2 was eh, and ME3 was bad (outside of the multiplayer, but none of us bought it for that reason).
DA:O was godlike, DA2 was awful, and DA:I was only decent because DA2 was so bad.
