All I know is the one of the main characters was killed off-screen, and the remaining two never directly confronted each other. The good guy just gives up, and the bad guy gets busted up and walks off into the sunset. To me, I thought, 'what is the point of this?' It's a traditional Western, with a very non-traditional 3rd act. The point is to subvert our expectations, which it does brilliantly No one's made a high profile Western (in the traditional sense) for decades

Do you think the Western deserves to come back? I mean, I suspect the reason it fell out of popularity was partly due to shifts in cultural ideals and audience expectations that the Western just couldn't adapt to.

Watched this after I read about it online. It was... infuriating. The film was giving me flashbacks (in a metaphorical sense) like CRAZY.

Can anyone explain to me in detail why a lot of people disliked/hated the Matrix Sequels? I've read that some people thought the sequels were not as philosophical as the first movie, but you can argue that the sequels were even more philosophical (overkill with philosophical tones). Granted they're not as good as the original, but I just want to know.

I watched Starship Troopers: Invasion and Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars recently. While much better than Starship Troopers: Marauder or Starship Troopers: Hero of the Federation (both of which look like they were made by a bunch of washed up porn stars), not top notch. Also, some parts of Invasion were just super creepy. Then again, made in Japan.

I watched Under The Silver Lake yesterday on Prime.
Despite its length a pretty entertaining film. Gorgeously shot, great customes. How this movie got such bad reviews while that silly horror flick It Follows (a badly made metaphor on STDs probably funded by the Christian Church as scare propaganda on sex before marriage *g*) is considered "brilliant" I will never understand. I guess nudity makes any film sexist now. Under The Silver Lake isn't the deepest movie ever made. The absurdity of the human condition, looking for love and meaning in life are all very familiar themes. The movie doesn't really add anything new to it. That said, the scene with the piano player towards the end was great stuff. The film is smarter than it looks in all the subtle ways it celebrates Hollywood and makes fun of it at the same time. I certainly recommend it to anyone who can enjoy a film more for the art than the plot.

I liked It Follows a lot. You can never relax. You can never be safe. You can never let your guard down. You have to keep an eye on everyone around you and look for the subtle tells that give the creature away. I like the sense of doom and dread that this can create.

Granted they're not as good as the original, but I just want to know. As more of the world was fleshed out, the more obvious it became that the world building was poor and didn't make much sense. The events that took place within the movies seem dumb, pointless, and futile when you actually think about it. Looks cool though. The first movie was done well as far as the concepts, and visuals. The subsequent films not so much. They just show you how weak and hopeless the humans really are. They show you that Cypher was right all along.

The movie had its moments but the whole sex curse premise was just so weak and stupid. After it got hyped so much I expected more than an OK film. Few horror flicks are good though. And even the ones that start out great have endings that ruin everything lately (like The Witch). The Orphanage is still one of the best horror movies in the past 15 years thanks to that amazing twist at the end.

Why would the adversary of the creator involve himself in such petty nonsense?

I liked the Witch. My only complaint is that it makes the devil seem small time. Why would the adversary of the creator involve himself in such petty nonsense? I liked it too until the last five minutes that ruined the mystery. Should have ended the movie with the man entering the barn. Leave it up to the audience to wonder whether the family was just going crazy or the devil was actually real. I sat there thinking "Omg, what brilliantly wicked ending with this random creep who's going to take advantage of the poor girl in the state she's in." Buuuut then the movie kept going and things got mightly silly.
Oddly, I liked the batshit crazy ending of Hereditary. I thought there it worked...

Nah I liked the closure. I just would have done it differently. Hereditary was kind of simply a family drama film until the last part which went into jump scare wall walking creature territory. Until the attic. Yeesh. I'll never forget that. The tree house either. Whoo boy. What's next for them though? The cult has achieved their goal so now what? Does Paimon run for political office? Grow the cult and take over the world? Open a bed and breakfast?

Some of the stunt fighters were underused and I was pretty disappointed by that. Was expecting more from some of the fights. Especially the 2 Raid fighters. Mark Decascos was great. It was a real treat to see him kick ass again. Haven't seen him in anything for a long time. One of my favorite scenes was Halle Berry kicking ass with her 2 dogs. That shit was amazing. Those 3 together are terrifying lol. I feel that the high table adjudicator girl was miscast. She wasn't quite able to nail the bourgeois black hearted bitch character. Close but not close enough for me. Also, how awesome is the Bowery King? Also, who else is looking forward to the Morpheus and Neo team up in the next movie?

^^ Definitely a lot of carry over from The Matrix, but who's complaining? Though Morpheus may be carrying a bit too much extra now.

Sony is apparently taking a cue from Marvel Studios, as they are making an in-house production studio called Playstation Productions to make movies and TV adaptations of their Playstation line-ups, rather than selling their IP's to other studios.
Do you think this "in-house" approach may finally lead to good or great video game movies finally?

I just saw Aladdin, and I actually liked it! Maybe a bit better than the original! I feel this movie did a pretty good job in balancing out being accurate to the source material, while also adding a few minor additional elements to make it feel like it's own movie. Will Smith's Genie is a lot of fun, and the performances themselves were really great. I think the only weak part that this movie didn't do as well as the original was the "One Jump" song sequence, though I feel it's because that song works better in animated form due to the medium's more accurate timing and over-the-top expressions. Otherwise, a great movie that I would personally rank an 8.9/10.

The Matrix movies are possibly the most overrated turds in the modern era, after fucking Harry Potter, of course. Anyway, On topic; This goddamn flick. What in the actual fuck M. Night? It's so weird, it got worse by the minute. It's almost as if the objective now is to see how bad his writing/directing can be. The premise was actually kind of cool & compelling, but the 3rd act goes FULL retard. Also the final twist is nonsense & insulting to the audience's intelligence. WOW. Just wow 1.5/10

Do you think the Western deserves to come back? I mean, I suspect the reason it fell out of popularity was partly due to shifts in cultural ideals and audience expectations that the Western just couldn't adapt to. In a world of weak ass cuckold men and feminists, they would be considered too "toxic" maleness. Even though there was a Sharon Stone flick, The Quick and the Dead, about a female gunfighter that was rather good. I would be all for more women playing a major role in a Western. I have a couple short stories about a female gunfighter, a Shane type of character.

Came back from seeing X-Men Dark Phoenix. Give it an 8.5/10. Obviously these so called critics are talking out of their asses as usual. I for one never put too much in the opinion of critics. The thing I didn't like, is its like they tried to jam pack a lot of stuff under two hours. This is something that should have been well over two hours which could have been contributed to better character development. One glaring issue is this takes place after Apocalypse, and in my opinion Jean obviously had Phoenix Force powers to destroy Apocalypse. It took more than telekinetic powers to destroy Apocalypse on the molecular level.

I remember watching this back in the 80s and going wtf at the scary scenes and imagining the endless loop of vampirism. Watching it now, I've to wonder if Earth is the only food source.
