Don't quote me on this, but I think they never confirmed mods for consoles. My... consolations...

I really liked it. Thinking of taking it for another spin. The character creation is a lot better this time around and I really started to care about some of my squadmates after a while. Haven't tried higher difficulties, so managed to only lose one of my favs. Yeah you have much more control over the appearance of your soldiers, and can even write little biographies of them. Its great. Thought I'd share my gang of misfits: A bit heavy on the snipers, but these are just my favs. Bergithe, Thea's sister, was added later on with mods. The others are from my first playthrough. Thea was my main killing machine. Using the skill that allowed her another strike whenever she got a killing blow, I would spread my fire from the rest of the squad weakening several enemies, and she could just round them up getting 4-5 attacks in one turn. Always grumpy Jorgen "Hollywood" Eriksen was actually generated randomly, but grew on me so much I just had to add him to the character pool. He's no former actor or anything, just a "pretty boy". A nickname given in jest. Yuri "Doc" Lebedev is a former history professor from a Russian university (explaining why he's not a medic). Ian "Cobra" Martin, from the australian outback, was my only KIA. He died close to the end of the campaign. *edit: Martin was the only KIA from my favs. Lost a few people that I didn't care so much for. --- As for mod support I wouldn't count on it, at least not with ps4 (what with Fallout 4 and all).

It didn't appeal to me with its timed missions and tied campaign. I like to play campaigns at my own pace. This bugged me in XCom 1, too. And the ridiculous heavy soldier spam late game.

Where's your Psi? Not using them? Also there are six classes as of the last DLC, with SPARK units replacing MEC Troopers from the original, so you can have a slot for every class on missions if you wish. That's fine. My first time around, I started training my first Psionic about the same time as I went beyond the point of no return. Speaking of which, I got a screenshot of my near-end squad. (Warning: There's a minor spoiler in the screenshot, but you're unlikely to actually see what it is unless you've played the game - let's just say that there is a story mission that only allows for three operatives.)

I actually went ahead and bought the game. I'm playing a mission right now, where I'm up against those stun troopers, and the big mind controller things. And man is it frustrating. I feel like, if I concentrate on the stun guys, the mind controllers wipe my field. and if I concentrate on the mind controllers, the stun guys run up and wipe my field.
I might just restart the mission, and bring along a couple extra snipers. Just so I can pick everything off from a distance.

Bought the game, spent about seven hours in the character creator. Time well spent.
First mission was a bit of a baptism by fire, aliens are crackshots and my squad can't hit the broad side of a barn. 78% to hit? lolno.
Enjoying it, though. The first game took me a bit to really get into the groove, it looks I'll have to learn quicker this time. Time limits are bastards.

Will be streaming AyyCOM2 come 6PM my time (4:30 left on the clock).
It's gonna be one hell of a thing, but the campaign I'm streaming is kind of late. I know a lot you new folk might appreciate, though. It's how I learned how to play XCOM: Long War.

The soundtracks for this game are amazing, especially the ones for Shen's Last Gift DLC. It sucks that the DLC tracks aren't available for download though, I would listen to this one all the time if I could

I left my playthrough on "rest" for now. Played a ton, it's pretty fun. Takes everything good about EU and makes it even better. Also the mods on the workshop are pretty cool. The voice mods are really fun, for instance there's a Harbinger voice mod that makes PSI operatives be the master race And there're Warhammer like voice mods, even a Bob Ross mod lol.

My 4-man squad stumbled their way through the Blacksite mission last night. Took a few tries as I was unprepared for glitchy naked teleporting clone lady that summons purple tornadoes. It was slow going, and near the end, despite the back wall of the building being blasted open, my squad still had to exit the side door to climb up the cliff to the evac point. I'm not quite sure what was going on there. They'd spent the last hour blasting their way through aliens and giant robots, but balked at the thought of walking over rubble. I think I might be screwed overall, though. I'm way behind on projects I really should have started sooner. I wasted so much time in the beginning.

How late in the campaign is it? You should get to the Blacksite within the first two months at the latest. First month if you don't want to be late on your schedule.
And naked teleporting clone ladies sound like Codices. You might want to watch some of those videos I linked earlier, I dealt with Codices relatively often as I recall.
Whenever they take non-lethal damage, they clone, but each clone only has half health. You can abuse this, as fragging a Codex on the lowest difficulty leaves it with 6-7 HP left, which means the resulting Clones have 3/3 or 3/4 HP. That puts them firmly within FUCK YOU range. Also, if Grenadiers are caught in the purple tornado (it's called a Rift) they can still nade the shit out of things. Same applies for other classes, as only primary weapons are disabled. GREMLIN drones are active, meaning a Combat Protocol Specialist can still flip them off right back after they move out of the Rift. With Sharpshooters, you move, yell "IT'S HIGH NOON!" and give them a taste of lead with your revolver.

I wouldn't worry overly much about being late - there will always be more alien sites to sabotage to give their Avatar Project a kick to the teeth and set them back for a bit. You just need to spread XCOM's influence world wide so you can reach those sites in time.
I always had one grenadier made for killing sectopods and other mechanical embuggerances. Chain Shot skill plus bluescreen rounds produces a lot of burning metal very, very quickly. Made it much easier to spread some X-4 love on alien sites.
To deal with the rifts thrown by codices, consider fitting an autoloader to some of your soldiers' guns. You can move your guys and girls out of the rift, reload for free, and give that glowing bint your regards.
Gremlin drones are your best friends when a timed objective requires defusing or data download. All you need is line of sight to the target object - feel free to blow up any walls in the way, and send in your gremlin to download/defuse. If you can get line of sight quietly, you may even do it without any nearby aliens becoming aware of it, and once you have eliminated the mission's turn limit, you can deal with them at your convenience.

Yeah, just look out. Finishing an objective breaks concealment.
Also, I preferred to do Blacksites in concealment right until I placed the X4 charges, then I put down an LZ pretty much on top of the demolition point and extracted in one, two turns tops. They were... relatively pacifistic missions, but tense nonetheless.

I've not seen one of these half naked teleporting people, on a mission, yet. They tough to take down?
Last mission I did, I started making contact with the west coast of the US. So I'm not exactly far along.

So I'm not exactly far along. Your starting position is random, so making contact with the west coast could technically mean that you just started or moved across two continents already. They are pretty tough, yes. They cast a psionic rift - an large area effect that disables the primary weapon of every soldier caught in it, forcing them to spend a reload action, and explodes during the next round for some nasty damage. They create a clone of themselves with half HP every time they get damaged but not killed. Fun times. Pretty harmless compared to the bosses from the Alien Hunters DLC though...

I don't actually have any of the DLCs. They're semi-high on my list of things though...
But yeah, Codices are easy if you can isolate them or use the correct tactics. I think there are even abilities/items that deny cloning.
Alien Rulers... Reaction for every single one of your move sound... crazy.

How late in the campaign is it? You should get to the Blacksite within the first two months at the latest. I think I just got in under two months. Possibly not. I'm telling you, I putzed around a lot. Seems to me the same thing happened to me with XCOM: EU, I had to start over. It's not a big deal. I won't abandon the playthrough just yet, though. Can't watch videos. 15 gb internet usage cap. My ISP considers watching videos "using the internet incorrectly." I had no issues once I learned all her tricks. I just wasn't expecting them the first time around. I'm playing on whatever difficulty the XCOM lingo for 'normal' is. I wouldn't worry overly much about being late - there will always be more alien sites to sabotage to give their Avatar Project a kick to the teeth and set them back for a bit. You just need to spread XCOM's influence world wide so you can reach those sites in time. I currently don't have enough intel to expand to other locations, IIRC. I won't be able to play today, so I can't say for sure. But I'm pretty sure. I had no problems with this, although that one time I let a soldier linger in there... that was a mistake. I Gremlins. I've not seen one of these half naked teleporting people, on a mission, yet. They tough to take down? . They start appearing after you skulljack an advent officer. I was not aware of this. There was much scrambling. Your starting position is random It is? Huh. I started out pretty much where I live in real life.

I've been waiting ages for this to appear on the console. Was so disappointed when it was meant to be a PC exclusive and no I am super happy I can finally play it. The squad customisation options alone for me make it worthwhile! Looking forward to bringing over my old squad from the first game (plus some newbies) to take it the aliens!!! Well so long as they don't keep missing those 95% hit chances!!!

Well so long as they don't keep missing those 95% hit chances!!! I firmly believe that a 70+% chance to hit is in fact a 70+% chance to miss. When you really need a ranger to slice up an alien, they manage to miss with 81% to hit. Assume everything will miss and plan accordingly. Sharpshooters rarely fail me, though. I love sharpshooters. I would have an entire squad of them if I could. Arg, I haven't played in forever and I miss it. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow.

I'm still in the beginning of the game.
Personally, I feel the Specialist does a lot of good (defensive or offensive tree). They feel unique with hacking and having a Assault Rifle to boot. It feels like support unit and rarely in the line of sight first.
The Sharpshooter has a nice flavor to it (scoring those less the 50% chance shots with ease so far), but you have to be in a situation for it to shine. I haven't tried the Gunslinger tree, but pistols feel so weak at the moment.
The Grenadier just shreds everything from armor to cover. Lol. It has good DPS to have my other units finish what is left.
I love the Ranger but it's hard to find a situation where melee will not lead them to the infirmary for a week or more.
Just got the game and it's really nice. I loved having three guys on the side of a car and one behind a tree ambush 3 aliens coming out of a church with Overwatch ready since I knew they were coming out. I waited for them, and boom! All dead and clean sweep to the objective. I can't wait for more abilities.
