I'd have been eager for this were it not first-person. I hate FP under any circumstances; but FP melee is laughably bad. This. A shame it’s in first person.

They have some great concepts in here but certain aspects are looking really rough, combat and sound design in particular.

They have some great concepts in here but certain aspects are looking really rough, combat and sound design in particular. I did read a review - last week, I think - that said the combat was 'so real, it kind of stopped being fun', but difficult to know how much of that was based on it being a demo build (and likely quite buggy) and how much was the reviewer not having endless time to master it.

Based on that video, the combat honestly looks pretty bad

Some of presentation aspects look a bit rough, and combat could have more "oomph" to it, but this is shaping up to be new gold standard for Immersion in video games ( except for dialogue fade to black). Love nearly everything I'm seeing here.

Seeing some streams will give a relatively good idea of how it feels, not quite as playing it ourselves, but good nonetheless. I always had the impression the combat was clunky, that's pretty much my only concern, not so much for being super realistic, but it just feels like it needs way more polish.

I love how they are going for that realistic feel towards combat and adapt HEMA. It's nice to see something new to experiment, and there might be romances too!

I must ask why would a fantasy setting work better.
This is the period of two sons of Charles IV., Father of the Country.
One of his sons, Wenceslaus IV. was the legitimate King, while his brother Sigismund (sometimes referred to as the Red Fox) inherited the lands in today's Hungary and Slovakia.
Around the time of 1403, when the game takes place, Master Hus preached in the Betlém chapel. Sigismund was one of the people who attended the Council of Constance, which turned Master Hus into a martyr for the Hussites, or the Chalice people.
The time the Church was corrupt, granting forgiveness from God based on material pay, which is one of the reasons Master Hus was eventually killed in 1415. He spoke againist it.
Civil war, the Church in interesting situation to say the least, all during the time following Charles IV's reign, the possibility of Master Hus being mentioned - as he lived for at least twelve more years, and the Council of Constance didn't begin until 1414.
And you would exchange this for dragons.

There should be more non-magic historical rpg. But people like their dwarves and fire bolts. On the Kingdom Come subreddit there was a thread with suggestions for movies that were similar to the game, and everyone came up with fantasy movies...

I must ask why would a fantasy setting work better. I'm inclined to agree. History can be as complex, as colorful and as entertaining as any fantastical setting. A historical RPG that aims at realism and provides dialogue options sound like it may be just my thing even if I am a bit tired of medieval games set in a european setting. I'll keep an eye on this.

And you would exchange this for dragons. Imo there's more than enough fantasy rpgs. I like the idea of a historical. The Only other IP I know of that does it is the Expeditions series, though they are isometric and turn based which aint everybody's mug of rum.

Mount & Blade is the most famous one, but Crusader Kings II is pretty much a rpg as well

And you would exchange this for dragons. I can take or leave the dragons, but I want me the flexible lead character creation, the char that I can see in the third person PoV and totally non-historic inclusion of tall strong gals in no-nonsense heavy armor with some serious weaponry on the battlefield and throughout the storyline.

And you would exchange this for dragons. That all sounds fine, but even leaving aside my misgivings with first person POV, they kinda ruined it when they said “our protagonist is going to be a peasant turned knight (so much for realism) whose motivation is that his village was destroyed and his family killed!” (lazyyyyyyy). Historical fiction is not inherently more or less dumb than fantasy, and I say that as a fan of both. Say no to genre essentialism; that goes for everyone.

Ah.so no female Protagonist? There're very rare female medieval heroes and not the sword handling type except perhaps Joan of Arc who's mostly a figurehead. Since this game is historically based, doesn't make sense to have a female protag of the fighting type. Domestic type, yes. Or someone already in power. Like a noble or a queen / empress.

I understand that it fits the era. But sometimes historical needs to bend to appeal to a broader base of players. I played Geralt and his definite penis waggling only because everyone said the series was unmissable. I'll see how this gets reviewed when it comes out, see if it ends up being another unmissable series, but a non female protaganist(or option) is a big nope from me.

On the other hand, it was real typical in the 15th century of peasant boys to join the knightly orders after their villages were put to the sword. You couldn't spit without hitting a commoner rising high on merit... And, yeah, thanks for the smiley face.

Initially, they were talking about an intro with a female character, not a sword wielding heroine but someone tied to the PC. A very cool idea but it got cut. As for a woman being a knight in this game, I have to go with the devs - It's antithetical to what they're doing. It's basically an RPG/medieval sim. A female PC doesn't make sense.
