Aliens vs Predator was way better than it's rated R sequel. Wait, this is an unpopular opinion? I have never seen anybody say Requiem was better than AVP. The Alien franchise is like the Terminator franchise. The first two were utterly amazing, and then it’s been all downhill from there. AvP:R blew chunks. It was an unimaginative load of crap that only went for gore and shock value. There was absolutely no intelligent planning put into the movie it was an insult to both fan bases. At least the first AvP had an interesting story that connected both species to ancient earth history...and really...that under the ice pyramid was pretty damn awesome.

That said, I don't really disagree with your post. I liked Alien: Resurrection too. Hybrid Ripley was great, it had Ron Perlman and it had a good deal of action. Sure, some parts were cheesy, but on the whole, it wasn't a bad show.

Unpopular opinion: the only 2 Alien species that were done well in cinema are: Giger's Xenomorph and especially the gene splicer/modifier from Annihilation. All the other Aliens depicted in media are severely unimaginative. I find it pretty sad that the word ''Alien'' means so little for directors and screenwriters, it is an opportunity to go absolutely crazy on the design, yet oftentimes the creatures look and behave like they came from earth, not having experienced a completely different version of evolution at a very distant, ''alien'' place. Even their agendas are mostly very primitive and man-like. No love for The Thing? Oh ok, the thing is good too. Totally forgot about it for some reason. Unpopular opinion: I like Alien: Resurrection. It is a dumb movie, but I like it. That said, I don't really disagree with your post. I liked Alien: Resurrection too. Hybrid Ripley was great, it had Ron Perlman and it had a good deal of action. Sure, some parts were cheesy, but on the whole, it wasn't a bad show. I liked the baby hybrid alien, I think it was really well designed and animated. Also as for fun fact, Sigourney Weaver really did throw that basketball, it wasn't an edit or trick. The crew and the actors couldn't believe it when it happened.

Yeah...I know, I saw read about the basketball thing...and that that was Ron Perlman's actual reaction...*snicker* That was such an awesome scene too. I felt kinda bad for the hybrid baby...he was cute, in a weird kinda way.

The original Starship Troopers is one of the most badass things in cinematic sci-fi. And it was a parody.

Wait - I also liked Terminator: Salvation. It was decent. Terminator: Salvation is better than people give it credit for.
(Or at the very least, it's waaay better than either T3 and Genisys were)

The original Starship Troopers is one of the most badass things in cinematic sci-fi. And it was a parody. It was a satire on the American Military, not a parody of any particular film As far as Beetle's claim about Alien creatures in film, I agree about Giger's monster. ALIEN is a masterpiece. Annihilation was decent, but the ending was a letdown for me, personally

I get the same kind of "wow cool" reaction out of seeing a Giger Alien as I do out watching a black widow spider.

As the scientists at the end asked: ''Can you describe its form?'' -'' No.'' ''What did it want?'' ''I don't think it wanted anything. '' As far as the film itself is concerned, it is all over the place for me. It had a couple of truly excellent scenes, between those scenes the atmosphere and mood dropped a lot, the soundtrack as excellent, the end was a bit of a letdown, the overall story is ok. Not sure what to rate it. 7/10?

People 3D graffiti. People mimics. People bears. You know.

As far as truly "alien" aliens go, I'm a fan of the "Hunters" from Halo, which are a gestalt/colony of worm creatures that "possess" power armor.

I dont think I will ever understand writers who do self-inserts or have characters who are kinda representative of themselves. I prefer to write people different to me, because I find stories more interesting with them (I would be a terrible protagonist ) and I kinda get a nice feeling by portraying characters who are different to me in a convincing and realistic way. It can be good for empathy too I think. There was a point where I was writing a character where I suddenly understood why some people think the way they think and I could have never understood that if I wrote about someone like me. I would never want to limit myself in the characters I can create tbh
