Which is your favorite?
Honestly I only did Champions of the Just once and I wasn't impressed. It was alright In Hushed Whispers hit me hard though, especially Leliana's sacrifice. I only pick In Hushed Whispers now because I'm sympathetic to the mages cause and because the whole quest feels more epic. Also, I love Dorian.

Definitely In Hushed Whispers. I found it better in every way compared to the Templar mission. Plus, IHW has no DAMN BABYSITTING

I'ts hard to choice, because ser Barris followed this dickhead, instead to join to inquisition, when my mage Inquisitors called him. Fiona offered the rebel mages' help. I think, as a mage, would be hard to go for Templars, especially after what happened. And: all advisors suggested the Mages, except Cullen, but Cullen is biased. So: in Inquisition not as clear the choice as in Origins or DA2 (mages, ofc), but ... sadly for the time being I do not see any sense to choose the Templars

Definitely prefer Hushed Whispers. I've done both twice, now - once recruiting and once conscripting, for you know...content experience. But going forward, unless I find a meaningful role-playing reason for doing otherwise, Hushed Whispers is likely to be my go-to option.
I don't dislike Champions of the Just, but the timed stuff bugs me.
Much prefer the 'dark future' experience in IHW.

Should make OP a poll? Haha
I'm same as the OP. In Hushed Whispers, when you think about the time magic and selling selves to slavery parts, didn't make much sense. But the atmosphere truly put the fear of the future into me. Whereas Champions seemed more like...an annoying puzzle of sometimes abstract warnings. Also, there were lines from the Advisors I missed because I didn't know the proper trigger and it was just a mess. Dev made content I have to try hard to see... It doesn't even explain Cole very well at all; and I'd read Asunder by that point and I was like, man, it gives more than. Nothing but not by much. I'm not sure what it was supposed to accomplish.
Edit add: Champions seemed so underwhelming that I thought it was Bioware's way of saying they wished you'd done the mages quest.

Champions of the Just. Better story, feels more personal than IHW. More opportunities for impactful decisions. Fewer time travel-related headaches. Feels like you're standing with allies against evil rather than just mopping up someone else's mess. Nets a better rival than IHW and ultimately offers more insight into Corypheus.

IHW. I simply don't feel as good if I go the Templar route. I mean, I feel guilty for how either group turns out (Red Templar vs. Venatori), but somehow I feel really bad for forsaking the otherwise civilian mages to Cory.
Curiously, though I still feel bad for the Templars, I don't feel as bad as I would if I let the mages be conscripted even though their fate is worse from a certain point of view. I suppose its because of how I view the Order, but still. It leaves me a bit surprised at myself.
And yes, I do base my decision based on what happens to the characters and not the quest itself. I personally find both to be lacking in some way. IHW brought time travel to the mix (and did rather poorly at it imo) and Champions of the Just just seemed pretty over the top with Envy even though the situation itself didn't seem that heavy.
That being said, of the two I do find myself questioning elements of the series with Hushed Whispers more than I do Champions of the Just. I guess it just explored more elements like the potential of red lyrium and a world with a tattered veil whereas Champions of the Just was just concerned with a particularly rare demon and human corruption from within.

I guess I should mention what I liked about Champions. I liked Calpernia a LOT. I liked the Dorian/Chancellor Roderick interchange more than the Cole one. It is kinda super cool to shove a demon out of your mind.
:Disliked the communication crystal bit, would rather have had a cut scene of Leliana spy over hearing. Neat that the advisors were there, but more interaction was needed to carry it. Cole's backstory of what he's been up to since creation was badly mangled in the only quest that tells you about that part. Envy demon was pretty lame. Slobbering stupid envy demon with no intelligence makes demons not scary. Should have been more Imshael like and given you some sort of Torpor choice. Like, sacrificed one of the Templars for a boost.

I quite like Envy. I enjoy hammy villains.
I suspect any preference for IHW is based on it being the Mage path rather than the merits of the actual quest.

I feel Champions of the Just is better written and I think Calpernia is better than Samson. Plus you get the extra little tidbits about corypheus that make him slightly less "Mwahahahahahaha evil" villain. However, I do In Hushed Whispers more simply because of Dorian, my own view on mages, Dorian, and Dorian.

I like both, but the chance to bond with Dorian via time travel pushes In Hushed Whispers into first place for me.

In truth I found the whole idea of having to make a choice between the two rather contrived. What happened to promoting peace and understanding between the two warring factions? I'll admit that the narrative pushed the player more towards choosing mages, which I think it shouldn't have (and I have a tendency to push against the plot when I feel I'm being led by the nose).
As regards the opposing plot lines, I feel they were both good, and it was a real shame that each introduced a separate companion, as the reason to put up with Cole in particular is lessened if one has not had the chance to build a relationship with him.
Each plotline in terms of gameplay, interaction and revelations gleaned I think is good, even though some aspects of the time travel scenario does not hold up well to logic. I think Ser Barris is a better ally to gain than Fiona, what with his War Table missions and the chance to promote him Knight Commander. I'd agree that Calpernia is a better protagonist than Samson, though I also think the Red Templars make a better enemy faction than a reinforced Venatori group.

I agree that the game (the whole series in fact) seems to push us more to side with the mages. I have as well, both in Origins and DA2. So in Inquisition I went with In Hushed Whispers without even thinking about it too much. Because the series had taught me that mages = good, templars = bad. Only when I started to think more about the situation, I started to actually prefer Champions Of The Just. Both for story and gameplay reasons. And as much as I love Dorian, I like having him warn me about the attack at Haven, because Cole just showing up is a little too random for me. So while I think IHW is a great mission, I prefer COTJ simply for story purposes (however I do conscript the Templars). Also, I've done 3 playthroughs and not once have I seen any wartable missions for Ser Barris. I know they're supposed to be there but I've missed them every time. I don't know if it's a bug or what, I'd love to make him Knight Commander

Champions of the Just. I like the envy demon talking smack to my Inquisitor just like Harbinger talking smack to my Shepard. Though Harbinger is better at it.

Heart-wrenching In Hushed Whispers, definitely, although I'd prefer Calpernia here, who is a much more interesting character than Ser Barris and Samson combined.
IHW with Calpernia as, for instance, Alexius's former slave who became his assistant (replacing Dorian), only later to betray him for Corypheus.
Ah well, a girl can dream.

I enjoy them both well enough from a gameplay P.O.V, but conceptually I think I like Champions better. The idea of my Inquisitor battling a demon inside her own mind resonates a bit better than the dubious time travel thing (although the imagery and implications of such are definitely troubling and well-imagined). I also think it's a shame that Leliana's sacrifice bit was kind of spoiled by some the DAI marketing; it might have left more of an impression if I hadn't already seen parts of it prior.

I like playing In Hushed Whispers more than I do Champions of the Just. I'm not a fan of the Tower Defense segment of Champions of the Just, while I can deal with Dorian being in my party just fine. I also happen to like the atmosphere of the dark future more than seeing Envy's mind, because the former is a consequence of the Inquisitor leaving while the latter is just some dude trying to play mind games I'm not interested in. I also prefer the Red Templars as an antagonistic force compared to the Venatori. Red Templars are all pretty tragic figures, either being turned into monsters against their will or willingly turning to Corypheus because the Chantry treated them so badly they feel he has a better way. Ventori are just more of the same evil Tevinter mages we've seen in the past 2 games.
P.S. I don't have issues with Time Travel magic being used for In Hushed Whispers.

Samson gets a lot of flack for being boring compared to Calpernia, but he does have an interesting story to tell on his own and I don't want to discount it. He's not as sympathetic as she is I suppose, but they're both hitting the same cords for joining Corypheus.
