What is the best Min/Max possible for a Pre-Skyhold Rogue? Gear, Build, Dual Wield/Archer, etc? I have got all Schematics unlocked, across all DLCs. A while back I beat the Feredal Frostback as a Level 10 Warrior. Solo, Nightmare, most Trials on, no Healing potions, no Specialization. I did that using the Chromatic Greatsword, Sigil of the Deepstalker and lots of Combat Roll/Coming Through. Though this damage output is far from what late game Rogues can do, I can't think of anything that can beat it Pre-Skyhold. But I could be wrong. Can a Rogue do better? I am wiling to try that on my next play through (when I get bored of my current games).

If you're soloing the trial that promotes enemies, you'll probably want Long Shot for the earliest fights. Once you're in range of a promoted mage or templar, they'll spam guard or barrier, and that adds a lot of unnecessary hp.

That's an interesting question. Pre-Skyhold with Golden Nug schematics just means no specialization. Since most rogue builds rely heavily on specialization skills (and no Bosun's Blade ), it would be an interesting min/max exercise to build one without those skills. I think I'd lean towards and Archer build. Leaping Shot/Shot from the Shadows is pretty damn efficient, from the min/max point of view. You can't spam it (lacking Artificer passives), but even a single shot is a large amount of damage for a single skill, assuming all the shots hit. On the other hand, DW can do better in terms of sustained damage. Twin Fangs, auto-attack, auto-attack, auto-attack, Flank Attack/skirmisher (free move to Stealth) is a pretty good loop. You can maneuver during stealth to stay in the flanking cone and wait for stamina to regen before starting again. Either Archer or DW could benefit from the entire Sabotage tree. Hook & Tackle/It Beats Walking paired with Leaping Shot is pretty fun and useful, while Throwing Blades/Precision Targeting with buffs can do massive damage. Toxic Cloud with Elusive is great for defense. For gear, the same gear you'd use is any OP rogue build should do. For Archer I still like Grunsmann's Bow or Hakkon's Wrath if you have the DLC. For DW, sadly, the Bosun's Blade would not be available pre-Skyhold, so I'd settle for two Coiled Strikes. You'll notice that I favor upgradeable weapons over higher tiered non-upgradable. Armor is your choice, whichever has the most leather offense and utility slots.
