Man saving enough money to get a better ship sucks... I didn’t have enough until endgame. The good news is that after your first game you can select bonuses for your new game, one of which is starting gold of 50,000, which I’m headcanoning as saved wealth from Caed Nua.

So in regards to Serafan's rival, Malnaj. There seems to be a bug. I think. Minor spoiler: At some point her ship intercepts yours, and you can fight her in a boarding action. However, when the fight ends all the bodies disappear and you don't get any loot from them, and neither do you go back automatically to the world map and presented with a UI box containing all the loot like with regular boarding action. I'm trying to understand if this is bugged, I did something wrong, or what. This is confirmed as a bug. I've come across a few other groups of enemies that were supposed to drop some good loot but they weren't lootable. Hopefully upcoming June patch fixes it.

There is no way in hell I can do some of these bounties without a better ship. If you start the combat and just keep clicking 1 you'll end up in boarding range (option 3) with minimal damage unlike the auto-boarding option. Then just clean up the ship crew and sell the loot. The sloop, starting ship, is actually pretty good to do that, because it has a lower chance to get hit than the bigger ships. Also, hull/sail upgrade are not permanent, so once you buy a new ship you can transfer that over.

So kind of just want to jump in and start playing the second game but for some reason I can't bring myself to start playing without refreshing myself on the first game so I am going to replay that first.
In the meantime what classes is everyone playing in the second game and anyone know of any good multiclass combos? Does sneak attack work with ranged weapons? Ranger/Rogue would seem like a pretty good pairing if so.
Also thinking of trying cipher/barbarian.

Does sneak attack work with ranged weapons? Yes, it did too in POE1. As for multiclassing, Wizard have lots of self-buffs that would be interesting to any of the other classes (either defensive or offensive). Rogue works well with the other weapon classes, same with cipher (especially soul blade). Chanter and Paladin can add some support to everyone. This really depends what you want to play. Also, some OP stuff is sure to get nerfed in the next patch.

Also, some OP stuff is sure to get nerfed in the next patch. Any idea on what they are going to nerf? Everything! Josh Sawyer said on SomethingAwful: "A great scythe is passing through all your favorite build and gear". Knowing how Josh does balancing and the way people have been exaggerating how easy the game is, I expect the scythe to trim everything to a very short size. The only specific is that Empower is going from +10 power level to only +5, but that was talked about during beta, I'm not sure why it wasn't done for release actually.

I'm really enjoying the visuals of the game so far - It's pretty funny when a classic top-down crowd funded game has better designed armor, weapons and visuals than most super hyped AAA games. I mean look at that, thats great armor.

Replaying a bit. A new PT. This time of mixed classes to see the difference while waiting for the patch. This won't be a complete PT. I think I'm likely to be playing Vampyr though since I think the patch won't be out till late June.
Stupid question. To change out companion, player has to run all the way back to Stronghold in POE I; I hated it btw. It's so freaking annoying. What about POE II? I assume it's the ship but no matter how I search, I'm missing the button that says companion list or something like that.

So, which faction did you guys go with? I'm still mid-game and I don't really know everything about all the faction, but I did roll my eyes a bit on how the "natives" (The Huana) are portrayed. They are almost, though not quite, the Mary Sue of the factions in this game. Their flaws can either be traced back to interference by various colonial forces, or are fairly minor (or at least not malicious, supposedly), and in general they are the naive honest "good" faction. Of course they are also communists... Honestly, a realistic portrayal should have included some much less benevolent and more barbaric aspects to their society. Examples: Some cannibalism here and there, some slavery when a stronger tribe take over a weaker tribe, etc. I suspect that the gentle treatment has something to do with the political inclinations of the writers. Oh well. The Vailian Trading Company by comparison is portrayed rather harshly, they are the type that back crazy Animancers, they are the type seeking to make everyone else an indentured servant via labyrinthine contracts, abject recklessness in pursuit of profit, constant backstabbing, etc. The Royal Deadfire Company are like a mixture between the Qunari of the Dragon Age, and a classic take on gun-totting imperialism (or more specifically "gunboat diplomacy"). They are portrayed as brutal, though, not exactly as savages and there are some redeeming features here and there. The Principi are a split between the "noble" pirates faction, and the Anarcho-capitalist faction... (not much nuance in their portrayal as far as I got) Haven't finished the game yet, but I'm kinda hopping I can manipulate things so that no single faction dominates.
I lost a lot of respect for the Huana when I found out
Their Watershapers had enslaved the very dragon that taught them their art, and were draining its soul to bolster their powers If I had to pick, I would go for a Huana/Valian alliance, assuming they could keep each other in check.
I'm hoping I can play the Principi factions off each other and destroy them both. One side's a bunch of sociopathic murderers, the other's a mafia-esque gang of killer's and slavers putting on airs of "nobility"

I thought all the factions had their faults. I didn't really see the Huana as a good faction and found their caste system and the way they treated their own people disgusting, it was enough for me in the end to go solo.
I'll eventually try every faction for science though.

Just shows the Huana do need some sort of outside influence (like the Children of the Dawnstars)

Do you know if it's possible to have the Huana influenced? I didn't get a particularly great outcome and would probably go for something like what you said with the Vailians/Huana teaming up, if possible.

Oh, you can refuse to side with anyone? If so I might go with that as my first PT. So far I like the Royal Deadfire Company the most, because SCIENCE. And they aren't as ridiculous as the Vailians. Yep Just go and do the ending mission yourself when everyone is heckling you to pick a side although, you might have to improve your own ship. I'm not sure if the improvements make a difference but without giving any spoilers it seems like ship upgrades might play a role. I had mine decked out with the best options so I didn't have problems.

Yeah the caste system was also something I found off-putting.
Just shows the Huana do need some sort of outside influence (like the Children of the Dawnstars)
Do you know if it's possible to have the Huana influenced? I didn't get a particularly great outcome and would probably go for something like what you said with the Vailians/Huana teaming up, if possible. Not sure
Unknown.
But I'm giving Beza's pages to Ruanu so he knows just what some of the Valians think of his people. I've also convinced the Queen to let the Children of the Dawnstars feed the Gullet at Nekataka.
Let's see, I also freed the dragon, though I left enough of it's soul to ensure the Watershapers keep their powers for the next few decades, at least (needed Aloth along for that since he's got all the Metaphysics skill)
