So, I apologize if there is already a thread on this topic, but I searched and didn't see any, so I figured I'd start one myself. I know other Bioware fans tend to have good taste, so... Anyone here into CYOA games/interactive novels? What are some good CYOA titles or authors you have liked and recommend? Specifically, I'm looking for text based novels, of the sort found on Choice of Games/Hosted Games, or similar... I'm already a fan of VNs, Adventure games, and RPGs with choices, and the like... but I'm new to this style of game (and have recently gotten myself hooked). So far I've read Fatehaven and the Samurai of Hyuga series (by Devon Connell), which were both really good light fantasy titles. Anybody else have favorites in this genre?

I am also a big fan of these sorts of games. I've played a lot of the Choice of Games catalogue.
Of those, I would recommend the Hero Rises/Hero Project/HeroFall trilogy. It's a continuous story with a lot of branching paths that let's you carry your choices over. I'm also a big fan of Sabres of Infinity and it's sequel, Guns of Infinity (Final entry in the trilogy, Lords of Infinity, has yet to be released)

Thanks! I will definitely check those out.
Only thing I haven't liked about the Choice of Games platform, is that there seems to be no auto save function...which can be frustrating when you make a mistake and need to start over. Is it like that for all of their games? I hope that is something that can be added in the future. But other than that, it's great reading on my tablet/phone.

Unfortunately, all their games are like that. Make a wrong choice and you have to start over. Still, there's a lot of replayability. Unless you're looking for a specific outcome, you can roll with it and do another playthrough.

I'm not very good at them. The best I've played are Monkey Island 1, 2 and 3 and Myst IV.
People say Telltale games are very good (Batman, Borderlands etc.). Also Tomb Raider games. Have not tried them yet tho.
About books... I had a RPG book in which you could choose where to go or what to do in every page. It was limited but awesome. Like going through the cave (go to page 16), or use the mountain road (go to page 24). There was a death ending and finishing adventure ending... there was possibly more. I've lost that book for long and don't remember much from it sadly.

I played two or three Choice of Games titles. I'm not a great fan tbh. Perhaps other writers / developers make them better, I don't know. Maybe, the quality seems to vary a lot, since most of the COG/Hosted Games are self made I believe. Some titles look well written and have good reviews, and some are quite short, or have so-so reviews. I can see it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, for that reason, same with many indie games.

Oh they definitely vary in quality a lot. Hosted Games are actually pretty much made by random people and published under the label (The code or whatever is freely available on their site). Choice of Games tend to be a bit better, because I think they're all made by published authors. Quality-wise, the one's I recommended earlier are some of the best I've encountered (Samurai of Hyuga is another one I liked a lot, still waiting for the next installment on that one too)

Agreed, I did like that one a lot too. I checked the author's twitter (because that cliffhanger was killing me), and he says book 3 should be out sometime later this year.

I'm new to the genre, but I've recently started Tin Star by Hosted Games and it's proved pretty good so far.
