I just remembered this song and now that I've mentally connected it to Blackwall, I might crylaugh forever. I wonder if Blackwall's grandma has a beard.

No wonder I like him with a dwarf inquisitor! He seems to be paired with dwarven Inquisitors the most, alongside qunari. I think I'm wrong though, since I've also heard that he's popular with Trevelyans.

Hard to say. There's several variables at play here. Dwarf (and qunari) inquisitors got the least amount of romance choices so in dwarf circles (blogs, tumblrs, etc), I saw a lot more of Blackwall and Iron Bull relationships and then a few Sera/Josephine + dwarf (not a lot, but they're there). (I don't meant to exclude Dorian and Cassandra -- I'm just thinking of options available to a female character since Blackwall is limited to that category.) So it's understandable why it seems like he's paired with dwarves a lot. And then from human romances, it seemed to me that Cullen won out over Blackwall more consistently with Revelations turning Cullen into a rebound relationship. (Not that he was a rebound for all, but it was a common enough theme at the onset.)
What I really do like is how differently Blackwall is viewed through the eyes of a dwarf player and a human player and a qunari. A thug, mercenary, and templar all have their different roleplay approaches and that colors how they'd view Revelations. (I am not clear how elves view Blackwall though. I don't remember their reason for being at the conclave.)
I really did like Iron Bull with a dwarf relationship. That dude was chill. Everyone was short to him. 100% acceptance. I could really tell how much they bent over backwards to make the height differences work in cutscenes. (They mentioned doing the same for Vetra in Andromeda since she is so tall.)
I will say this. Cullen really blew his opportunity with the dwarf inquisitor. I mean, pfft, we had the lyrium connections. Templars lining up around the block just to buy us drinks. =p

Some huge differences, but that feeling of "Us against the world" is a possibility. Being at the conclave would be useful to the clan to know the policies that would affect the Dalish like is there going to be a crackdown on nations guarding their borders if mages are given more freedom to travel or will there be sanctuary areas to keep mages quarantined that the Dalish will have to avoid or go near.

No wonder I like him with a dwarf inquisitor! He seems to be paired with dwarven Inquisitors the most, alongside qunari. I think I'm wrong though, since I've also heard that he's popular with Trevelyans. I can see him with any race, really, but I feel like dwarves and qunari make for the most natural fit. And it's not only Trevelyans and Lavellans who can be fairly nice and civilized types, so it's not like a redeemer-type can only be one of those backgrounds. My main dwarf was a smuggler/merchant/negotiator type; didn't get her hands dirty and made the most of a bad background. She's big on compassion, free-thinking enough to help the mages attain freedom, a Varric-style non-dogmatic Andrastian, and she'd have less sympathy for Blackwall than any other dwarves I might play. I could see her with Josephine or Sera, possibly. Josephine calls to her civilized side while Sera calls to her Robin Hood instincts. Also, dwarf lover Alistair is a single, bitter, brooding Grey Warden in this universe, the tempting bastard. Possibly still a virgin, from the way he talks. It's driving me bonkers. She might even stay single to be headcanoned into his fine griffon-emblazoned pants, unless I decide I can't resist dat Bull-barrelmance. I saw screenshots--it's hilariously cute to me. Like my first Dalish elf, though, she seems to have enough spunk in my head that I'm just not sure what she'll do. Wild card. My Adaar mage was far rougher, though, and will be on Blackwall like beard on face because she's certainly not used to being treated like a lady. Maybe he'll end up redeeming her back, even. I weirdly dig the height difference, too. Maybe it's because, being 5'1", I have the opposite problem to Bull--basically everyone is taller than me! So Blackwall will be a short dude to my qunari, and that's not possible with any other male LI. I think he will also earn some extra goodwill with me, romancing her when no other male who isn't her species has the guts to. LMAO at the Cullen lyrium connections thing, Gilsa. SO TRUE. XD Really, it's sad he's not available to fine dwarven ladies. Doesn't he know when you lie down, the height stops mattering?

LOL!
Hey, just curious -- has anyone set Blackwall free and still plan taking Solas down? I'm looking for a good RP perspective because I found it hard RP-wise to have given Blackwall a second chance, end their journey giving hope to the wretched souls and yet not give the same courtesy to Solas. Blackwall is actually tripping my character up because I want her to chase after Solas with an axe for his intention to wipe out the dwarven people (as collateral damage, but still. STILL.). =p

He has no intention of killing anyone for personal ambition or greed whereas Solas is still a threat. Solas intends to kill a large number of people, which makes it kind of hard to be generous at the moment. Still, I really do agree with you. It's hard not to try to convince Solas not to do it first after giving Blackwall a chance. Solas hasn't done anything yet, so no need to be angry yet.

We don't know if Solas will be willing to change his mind, so... killing him is the best answer so far (at least for me).

That's very true. That's what I liked about Blackwall -- that he made his redemption decisions independent of the protagonist. Was already on this path long before meeting the Inquisitor and didn't confide in the Inquisitor or ask for favors to get out of this mess. He just headed off to the gallows to finish the job on his own.
That's kind of why I'm hoping to get a new protagonist for the next DA game so we have a clean slate in going after Solas. If we play the Inquisitor again, I'm doubtful that Blackwall can be a full companion considering he can be dead in so many world states. (I'd love to be wrong and play with Rainier.)

Hi guys! Long-time Blackwall enthusiast and Blackwall thread dweller in ye olde BSN. I think name was Scuttlebutt there, so Hi to those who used to hang out there! My opinion about BW/Lavellan romance - there might not exactly be the sort of connection between them like with Blackwall and Cadash/Adaar etc, but what makes it interesting to me is that it can be a nice star-crossed lover type of story, depending on how open-minded Lav's clan is and how important their acceptance is to her. Or it could be a nice challenge/character development for a Lav who is at least cautious about humans, but ends up falling for one, and then sorta betrayed by him. Edit: sorry, I messed up the quote, but it's about Solas and Blackwall I did! I don't think their situations can compare - Blackwall is obviously remorseful (walked straight to the gallows himself), has already started on redeeming himself and would never do something like that again. Solas may feel sorry about what he intends to do, but is dead set on doing it anyway and he doesn't care how many people will die for him to get what he wants. He's still a threat. He may give up on his plans if the inquisitor can convince him, but, imo, the Inquisitor must be very, very optimistic if s/he believes that their tearful pleas can change his mind. That's my 2 cents anyway!

Great point, evilpenguin. (I do recall seeing a Scuttlebutt on the old forums!) I pondered a bit and realized that my decision was also influenced by the fact that I had Solas and Varric in my party the vast majority of the time because I wanted to hear the dwarven history/comments from Solas (think it only shows up in his banters with Varric).

I really like him and my HF mage as both of them are removed from society somewhat. I have a head cannon that they end up in the countryside near denerim and the old warden keep from DAO and have an orphanage. She can heal those who need it and teach those with magic abilities before they go to the circle or chantry. While he helps build toys for them and other kids in the area while ensuring that the kids get structure and honor. I think it would help him realize he is more than his past by giving to the future.
Personally when I first met Blackwell, I thought he was really interesting and wanted to know more, but when I added him to my party I though he was going to end up with Cass because she was all over him in terms of honor and doing the right thing. Then I was confused because he gave Josephine flowers. I thought the man couldn't handle smutty books. I ended up with Cullen. My second play through I ended up with blackwell.

Also, My Mara Trevelyan was head over heels in love with Blackwall and Solas was just this weird magical elf who hung out in the rotunda before disapearing for three years. When he shows up, he shares plans for blowing up the world? It's just different flavors and sizes of sin altogether. Mara was super into second chances but Solas plan is crazy.
