Sten tells you that "The Qun is quite clear in matters of demons. Destroy them quickly, efficiently. Enough talk."
But well... what if you lose the opportunity to learn important information because you didn't bother talking to it? Maybe the demon will mention its victims and what happened to them.

You can chat with demons all you like, presuming it doesn't attack you or try to possess you. But you have to understand that a demon will do whatever it takes to achieve its goal, including withholding information and outright lying. Whatever a demon says can rarely be trusted.
So Sten is right: the safest way to deal with demons is to outright destroy them.

Is it safe to talk to demons? What if it tries to show you what happened to its victims? What if it succeeds? How so? By victimizing you. They're called demons for a reason, and judging by Trickster Whim and the Fade Rifter (which are violent monsters that I've never heard called anything but "spirit") a creature can be pretty demonic without actually qualifying as a demon. So if something is demonic enough to actually be called a demon I'm going to have to back Sten and Evildude on the matter of conversing with it.

You only read the title, didn't you. I read the whole thread. I still can't see where I'm wrong. Talking to demon is dangerous even for a well-armed party. Just ask HoF and their companions who got trapped by a sloth demon (which is not even the most powerful type) after having a minute of small-talk.

Don't forget the holy water. Given how much power the priests and their blessings have in this setting, I'm inclined to imagine holy water wouldn't do anything more than make a demon wet. Might I recommend holy fire, or a Sword of Mercy?

Well... I don't know. I've always been intrigued by demons. Some of them seem harmless enough. I've allowed the Desire demon encounterd in the Circle Tower to take the Templar on several playthroughs. Honestly, if it was me and I was unhappy ad that Templar was, having an illusion of happiness is better than the bitter reality.
Sure, she is giving him his heart's desire for her own benefit. But does that matter?

I was under the impression that they don't have corporeal bodies without a host. The bodies demons and spirits have when they aren't possessing something are magical constructs, created by the spirits's own will and the imagination of the observer.

If you can hit a desire demon with a sword in the Non-fade world, that means it's body is corporeal,in DAI they have the breach excuse,in DAO there are a pair of demons that are corporeal on their own,one is a pride demon in the deep roads.

Fair enough. Still, though: I don't think all of them do cross the Veil with their whole bodies. The Codex entry for shades says that they learn to create a body like the one they had in the Fade, and I'd assumed that was how all demons who actually have bodies of their own do it, both in the material world and the Fade. (Since most of the reason beings in the Fade have bodies, and have the bodies they do, seems to be that they think they have those bodies.)

We wouldn't have blood magic if no one talked to demons.
Make of that what you will-whether that's a good thing or not.
