Two random things about Discovery; The Black Com-Badges on Discovery (explicitly mentioned and then never referred to again after Ep 3) might have been part of Fuller's plans for the show, which were quietly dropped once he left as showrunner halfway through production. Heard this mentioned as the explanation for what was going on there, but not sure how true or not it is? Also something that just occurred to me and now seriously bugs me. Why does Discovery, which seems to be a brand new ship that's right off the assembly line, have a registration number (1031) far lower than that of the Shenzhou (1227) and the Enterprise (1701), ships that are 20 and 10 years old respectively? Is Discovery actually an older ship that's been refitted to the point it can be considered "brand new" (like the Enterprise refit in TMP)? Or if it's using a legacy registration from an earlier Discovery, why does the designation on the hull not indicate this is actually the Discovery-A? (I know ship registrations have never made sense in Trek, but logically a lower number would indicate the ship was older, right?) I'm just wildly guessing here, but I have a few ideas about the latter question: A. Discovery is a pretty extraordinary prototype ship, it could be that it was registered at a much earlier date than when it was actually launched and it took that long to develop because of its unique capabilities (or they had problems with the design that kept it in dry dock way longer than the date it would have originally been slated for launch perhaps). B. Discovery is a retrofitted ship, so perhaps it's actually an older ship than the Shenzhou originally and was stripped down almost completely to accommodate the spore drive technology. C. It holds to a distinct classification system, i.e. it was meant to be part of a separate serialization than other Starfleet ships, it is a kind of a top secret project compared to other ships we know about; if they really wanted to keep it out of the "regular files" so to speak, it would make sense that they register ships falling into that category differently also. D. The numbering system is total nonsense, hahahaha. Totally random theories, of course, numbering conventions in Star Trek never made sense to me.

If only Discovery had been 1431. The reg would still make little-to-no sense, but it'd show Section 31 enjoys a bit of refuge in audacity, stamping a veiled reference to their covert organisation on the hull of a top secret ship.

Rewatching the TNG episode "Sarek", I never noticed before that Picard mentions meeting Sarek at "his son's wedding". Presuming that he's not referring to Sybok or any other children... I guess that Spock was married at some point? (Apparently it was to Saavik, according to the ambiguously canon novels) Also the mind-meld scene in "Sarek" is unintentionally hilarious in hindsight. Picard expresses Sarek's love for Amanda, Perrin and Spock... but now we have Discovery, you have wonder why he doesn't mention Michael? I guess he must not care about her that much, after all. --- Still think that Discovery S2 should reveal that Spock and Michael don't get along, which would be the best answer for why she's never been mentioned before. Not only does Spock dislike Michael, but he dislikes even more that she stirs up (human) feelings of jealousy and resentment within him, particularly over having to "share" his parents with her.

Ugh, gotten to "The Loss", the TNG episode where Troi loses her empathic abilities. What makes this episode ridiculous and a clear misstep, is that despite trying to being an allegory for how people cope with disability, at no point does Geordi factor into this episode... y'know, the one character on this ship who actually has been disabled since birth? The script even brings up blindness twice, yet the writers forgot they have a blind main character? Seriously?!

I guess that Spock was married at some point? (Apparently it was to Saavik, according to the ambiguously canon novels) On this, copy and pasted; "Detailing another reason why Saavik stays on Vulcan near the start of Star Trek IV, Leonard Nimoy explained that, rather than including her in the majority of the film, it seemed "more interesting to leave her behind with the potential information that she was expecting Spock's child." - The_Star_Trek_Interview_Book "In fact, the scripts for Star Trek IV included more than an implication that the reason Saavik remains on Vulcan is that, while Spock was undergoing pon farr on the Genesis planet, he had sexual intercourse with Saavik to eliminate its effects, and in doing so had impregnated her.” Peter Krikes, who originally co-wrote the film's script with Steve Meerson, offered, "There was a scene with Kirk on the Bridge of the Bird-of-Prey. They cut out five lines where Kirk says to Saavik, 'Have you told him yet?' And she says, 'No. I'm taking a maternity leave' [....] All they did was cut out five lines of dialogue, and you lost that whole thing, which, I believe, will turn up in a Harve Bennett script in a couple of years." - en.memory alpha.wikia.com/wiki/The_Making_of_the_Trek_Films" The Making of the Trek Films, 3rd ed., p. 64

It makes loud noises when played. Requires sliding a hand back and forth along it's length. Has the word "bone" in it's name. Yeah, is it any wonder why Will "Season Pass at Risa" Riker chose this instrument?

Rewatched TOS S2 episode "Obsession", where Kirk repeatedly sends redshirts to their deaths against a death cloud because of his personal vendetta. At least he could have given them blue shirts to increase their chances of survival.

So for a while I have been engaging in DE-HYPIFICATION that is, consuming media that bashes Star Wars in general because if I get excited for Solo, I will disappointed horribly. Such as.. can safely say I have suppressed my expectations.

"In tonight's episode, Geordi must channel his inner badass to survive the most deadliest game, when a holodeck malfunction accidentally merges an children's educational program, with a brutal training regime designed by Worf."
I can't lie, an episode with that premise does sound pretty awesome.

I'm someone who has grown up with both Star Trek and Star Wars (proof that you can be a fan of both). I became a fan of Star Trek from the movies mostly (but overtime I watched the shows too, for the most part). When I was a kid, I had absolutely no idea that "Even numbered Star Trek movies are good; Odd numbered Star Trek movies are bad" was a thing. The first movies I remember watching (as far as I can tell) were "Star Trek III: The Search For Spock," and "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home." Out of the original six movies, those two are the ones I enjoy the most. They are my top 2 favorites for the Kirk movies. The Wrath Of Khan is a fantastic movie, but I watched 3 & 4 first, and I didn't see 2 until later. I also consider "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" to be incredibly underrated. Heck, my favorite version of the Starship Enterprise is in 1-6 (1701 "Refit" & 1701-A). First Contact is my favorite Next Generation film, and sometimes I feel that Insurrection gets a bad rap. Yeah, it's not as good as First Contact (or probably Generations imo), but it was more a Star Trek movie (due to Johnathan Frakes' directing) than Nemesis. I also like the reboot movies. That's just my two cents...

Other regular TNG plotlines include;
The Bridge Crew playing poker (which Worf invariably loses).
Riker announcing he's heading down to the Holodeck... which might easily be a euphemism for "Fun with Number One". Lwaxana showing up unexpectedly and proceeding to annoy everyone.
Worf not getting along with his son.
Ten Forward hosting a concert. So. Many. Concerts.
Computer problems threatening the ship, because the Federation doesn't believe in antivirus software, firewalls or hiring IT guys.
The Romulans showing up and Worf taking the opportunity to remind us that he really, really, hates them.
Troi getting physically assaulted, biologically altered or telepathically mindraped by various people. (Seriously, what the actual hell, writers?)
Everyone's patience getting tested dealing with Wesley. Data owning a cat. No, really.
Geordi having zero game with women (unless they're a hologram).

*sees Picard news* Meh. Curious about a new show in general especially after Discovery but I really hope he is in a very minor role. Gimme more Sisko/ Janeway or Lorca dammit. Well, Sisko had metamorphosed into some sort of alien superbeing last we saw him. Though in a way, I suppose that could make it easier to bring him back, since he could turn up almost anywhere doing almost anything (as long as it wasn't blatantly malicious). Janeway, depending on which faction of fans you talk to, is probably either still an Admiral (as seen in Nemesis) or has been court-martialed after somebody actually sat down and reviewed her Captain's logs from Voyager. I'm assuming that Picard will be working a slightly less "adventurous" job than Captain of the Enterprise, unless they're planning to give the ship an entirely new crew (which would be plausible, actually, given how much time has passed and the fact that Riker and Troi left and Data died). I could actually see some potential in putting him in charge of whatever Starfleet's equivalent of a JAG staff is, reviewing and investigating controversial decisions made by various members of Starfleet. And hopefully we'll get an occasional cameo from other TNG characters.
