Anyone played this? Seems story/character driven, have all three, about to jump into this. If I getting it right it's Longest journey->Dreamfall: Longest Journey->Dreamfall chapters. Kind of sounds like Life is strange, by the looks of it.

It's a great series, TLJ is one of my favorite games, but I would suggest going into Chapters with low expectations when you reach it. It had a rough Kickstarter development and it's obvious how much potential was wasted because of it.

I played the longest journey, and then the original (mostly relied on breakthroughs for the original).
I haven't played the new one yet, but I do own it (I think I do at least, steam library of un-played games).

I haven't played the first one but I thought the second one was brilliant.
Chapters was acceptable, but you could see there was a better game in there that they could have pulled off if they'd had more resources. Still, it was entertaining enough, just not as good as its predecessor.

I played TLJ, didn't think much of the second (the focus went to the new protag. I'm more interested in April Ryan's story than Zoe's. Gameplay was clunky too) and thought even less of the third (I supported in Kickstarter because I wanted a resolution to the story).

Yes, it's a good series, if you like this type of story driven/adventure game. The Longest Journey was a classic in the genre. Yup, Life is Strange definitely seems to have taken some inspiration from this series, you will probably like it if you liked that game. The original came out in like the 90s, so it's dated now of course, graphics wise, but it's a point and click adventure, so still playable, IMO. The newest game, Chapters is also good...the ending felt kinda rushed, you can tell they ran out of resources and weren't able to implement everything they probably had planned, but it was still enjoyable.

Jumped into original. It has few annoyances ( with items/puzzles), but overall holds up quite well. April is pretty funny, likeable protagonist, and dialogue seems a bit more teen-believable than LiS. Humor and characters definitely carry the game.

I got the T-shirt with this. April and Crow. My fav duo. Chapters image. After waiting seven years to a final resolution of the question that matters to me, I'm happy with the conclusion for April Ryan.

Finished this, pretty good experience overall, loved the epilogue. Shame there's not as many these types of games, today. Now into Dreamfall. Onwards!

I played both TLJ and Dreamfall twice, and like them both. The Longest Journey is one of the best point & click adventures ever made, with hell of a story, but it felt a bit dated at some points in my most recent playthrough, since it can be slow as shit at times.
Dreamfall has an equally interesting story, but gameplay is more 'streamlined' to then-modern-day standards. Puzzles are a lot easier and stuff. Combat mechanics were awful, and the ending was one of those annoying endings which took years to finally get resolved in 'Chapters'. By the way I like both April and Zoe as the main protagonists.
I thought Chapters was pretty amazing too, though the first chapter was a bit slow. I also love the ending.

Finished first Dreamfall...it was good, but somehow felt more outdated than TLJ. First had a better, more slow build up and I loved the change in environments, whole journey thing. And I liked April more than Zoe, humor, spunky attitude ( that more develops over time). Did they get rid of combat/improved controls in Chapters? So the series is fully done?

And I liked April more than Zoe, humor, spunky attitude ( that more develops over time). Did they get rid of combat/improved controls in Chapters? So the series is fully done? There's not much combat in DF Chapters, you direct protag using directional keys rather then point and click. I had issues with the gameworld, map and certain cues regards objects. I felt stifled and irritated. The map wasn't very helpful; no details. It's likely the devs felt that since the gameworld is so small, there isn't any need for more map details. This becomes a problem when waiting for the next installment since it's not likely you can recall what this building and that was supposed to be. I played Chapters when it was 'live', waiting for the devs to complete each chapter, etc, so there's a disconnection between chapters. I got lost when the objective said to go to a certain building. I couldn't remember which one and where. I had to wander around. The map was useless. With less than smooth zone transition, this created irritation with gameplay. I also dislike the throttle on movement. There is no way you can get the protag to run. It's always a slow mo sluggish jog. I hated it. It's time wasting. Clearly, the devs didn't want players to move around fast, that cuts down game time. Cues on objects that can be used are small and easily missed. It's hardly helpful when they're visible at certain angles so you can imagine the long minutes I spent struggling to find that path to progress. It's worst since the area I was in was really tiny. It should be plainly visible, right? No. I stayed with it because I want to finish the story. I'm unlikely to touch it again. Of the three, The Longest Journey is the only gem. Of the char / protags, I prefer April Ryan to the other two. I'd prefer it if the story was about her and the Balance. How did she survive that ten years? What did she go through that changed her so much. That caused her to lose hope, faith and confidence in herself? How did she fulfill the Prophecy? What are the Drac Kin? What are they really? There're so many questions that were not addressed. I really could do without the mumbo jumbo in #2 and #3 and the shift in char focus. But this is all imo. Subjective.

I think they went a bit too far ( in changing appearance and attitude), but I liked this type of char development. What happens to the hero when he's no longer needed, not something you usually see in video games.

For me, they failed to give further insights into how life in Marcuria and the Prophecy affected April. How the invaders and their treatment of those they feared, of those they conquered were not really covered in depth in #2 and #3. It's all very 'clean'. The focus was heavily on moving Zoe along and have her save the world with Kian playing his bit part and April playing even less. In the end, the Prophecy doesn't matter, the Balance doesn't matter. The two worlds don't matter. It's all fluff in the wind. Blown this way and that by the Storyteller. How 'fun'.

There is supposed to be a true sequel being made after chapters to TLJ (The Longest Journey Home) where all these April Ryan changes are going to be answered. However if and when it will ever be released is pretty much uncertain at this point...
