Did my DAO and Awakening PTs on Nightmare, but now I'm having problems with the final boss fight here. After fighting the Verteral down to 10% health, all of a sudden, drakes and small dragons everywhere!
Any ideal strategy here?

I've heared that lore wise Varterral are immortal, after several days they come back to life,so they must have some source that resurrects them, maybe the elven god who made them. Gameplaywise there is always a way to win battles, but nightmare requires better strategies or build up.

Gameplaywise there is always a way to win battles, but nightmare requires better strategies or build up.Indeed! But while I've been able to do Nightmare for all of DAO and Awakening, this boss fight is so nasty I had to go down to Normal to beat it. Everything seems to weigh against the player: 1. Finn is specialized in healing and lacks powerful killing spells. 2. Arianne is dual wield warrior whose strength and dexterity is built up, but who is very weak in constitution. 3. You have only Dog as your third companion. 4. In my case, my PC was a dual-wield rogue; I can't help but think I would've been better off with a mage PC. And with this team, you have to beat not just the Varterral, but also two medium dragons and two drakes. Ouch!!! The moment Finn goes down, it's all over!

I always like to give my warriors and rogues bows/crossbows. Except for Dog, of course. If you set Finn and Arianne to ranged, then that might help. Dog and/or Arianne can be set to defend Finn. You can beat it on Nightmare, that's how I play it.

Make sure that Finn keeps a distance from the boss and move away when it jumps.
Last time I did it all companions were dead by the time I got it down to like 20%, that stun lock thing it does hurts them a lot if they are standing in it's AOE damage. But the Warden is kind of broken OP at lvl 35 so it was no problem to finish it off solo. The last boss in the GoA DLC is way harder than this encounter on Nightmare.

I've done WH on Nightmare a handful of times, and my experience is that the companions are too squishy to melee anything in that fight... I have the W-C tank, no matter what their class.
Baby sit Finn, and keep him alive at all costs. (Have Dawg protect Finn if needed.)
Give Ariane a bow, and set her to ranged. Move her around the perimeter and out of harms way, if she draws any aggro.
