I think I have finally ran through the side-quest gauntlet - and ready to leave for the mysterious Archaeological Dig and confront Aurora. Figure 1. Zachariah, preparing to sleep the day away before setting out for the unknown. The side quests were pretty interesting actually. Zach got to interact with the humans impacted but Martian radiation, the mutants, forcing them to go to work, risking their lives, and bringing one out of the pens against the objections by the slave-owner. Mutants look pretty cool: Also, I could not resist and peeked, and found out that at least 3 characters I met so far are future companions, and unfortunately, my loyal Jeff and David are going to leave Zach's side. Alas, alas. I think this lady here, Amelia Reach, is one of the future companions. The screenshot is a part of a pretty cool cutscene, where she is convinced that her equipment would explode in Zachariah's presence, and he is trying to tell her that no, no, he won't spontaneously short-circuit. Loved that dialogue, and I gotta say,I am looking forward to Amelia as a companion, she is far more fun than Niesha, the Singer for and from the masses. If she has a romance, I might be tempted.

Amelia is pretty funny. Brash, but funny. And yeah, don't mess with her tools.

Oh, wow, wow, wow! Zach's in hot water now! Anyway, all in order. Zach took the rover to the Shadow Path, and everyone in the game is about as exited about the rover trips as they are about Nomad in MEA, but it's not really that interesting, though nets you somce cool camraderie cutscens. Here, Amelia, Zach and Scott are chatting amiacably: The ruins and the tunnels themselves were way shorter than I expected, basically run, grab and explode mission. The rival Mancers from Aurora looked awesome however. Couple of shots below show one of those awesome vault doors that use two Technomancers to channel to open up (Zach is working with his Aurora opponent to do it) and Zach looking back at the explosion as he jumps into the rover (presumably, lol) But then, as we returned to the base, the game went into overdrive with building commendations and emotional impact! Okay, for starters, Amelia was outright PO'd at Zach trying to compliment her, and it ended up in a big misunderstanding, but there were a short story presented on the connection between Scott, Amelia and Zach, which heartbreaking, and potentially leads towards more quests with Amelia and Scott. Aww, poor Scott! Want to see the ending of that story! Fresh off the not-being-popular with Amelia Zach also learned that he is being sold out to the Secret Police and Colonel Victor by one of his own. Upon the investigation it turned out to be... ouch. Then Zach had to try to fend off the very angry tirade from Captain Eliza who promised to speak for him though... and now he has to try to defend himself. Or is it the front for him too next? Well, we'll see. Yeah, the game might be short on really large showy cutscenes and nice touches in ambiance, but it certainly gets you involved, no doubt about it. The characters are also very alive. Really getting into it now & getting attached to Zach.

OMG, I need to stop playing because SO MUCH has happened, and I need to do a lot of game management stuff like sorting through the inventory, crafting (groan) and starting to get o know the "real" companions. But, OMG, OMG, OMG! Scott and Niesha here are whisking Zacharaiah out of town: They go on an adventure ride (after a bunch of street fighting on Amelia's commandeered Rover (she has a few choice words to say about it, and outright calls Niesha a bitch! A tense moment in the rover... Then a race against Mars' deadly sun and deadlier creatures! And the gang arrives to the mysterious, legendary, non-existent city of Noctis, that looks borrowed from the 1001 Nights' Tales, whoa! The screenshots do not do it justice!!! My enthusiasm kindda wavered for a second when they added the Prince in the mix, but the man turned out to be as delightful a scoundrel and a schemer as it gets, so now my only complaint is that he is not gonna be on the list of the available romances. I think I now have an idea about the available companions, and tbh, at this moment I have a hard time choosing, but I am thinking Phobos, because he is awesome, but I will see how Lucky will be in the dialogues. It's between him and Amelia. I am not a big fan of Niesha.

The one with the pebble and his mother? Yes, I did, it was so sad I could not take Phobos with me this time, because the game locked Niesha in. So I added Andrew to get to know him. He is very sweet, the sweetest LI of the three, and has a great backstory. He really feels like the Inquisitor put into the companion role. I am eager to help him recover his abilities, but I think I am going end up pairing Zach with Amelia. She is just cooler and is surprisingly enthusiastic about the possibility. And he (Zach) is adorable when he talks to her. Returning to Ophir was very dramatic and very frustrating, because it was not quite clear how to get around correctly to get to places Zach needed to infiltrate. But the dramma was very, very intense. I almost cried when Master Ian overloaded to cover the escape. That was so Jedi. Now I am triple worried about Sean, and hope I will find his fate eventually.

I am now at the point of the game where the absence of reliable cellular network coverage and any discernible means of effective transportation hampers the enjoyement of the plot. Peculiarly, the half-decent transportation is provided for the places that are barely one dialogue worth, while every other quest takes you through the rat maze of Ophir's three sectors with an added bonus of new lockouts and mob grind.
Plot wise, Spiders are still on the ball. First of all, I was imensely pleased that Zachariah did not have to unleash slaughter on Aurora contingent, and instead sold out the Merchant Prince. I have had a hard time making this choice because I would not have minded being Zachariah of Noctis, but resuming the war by all accounts would have led to Aurora subjugating Abundance, which placed it comfortably to strike at Noctis next. So, I am not sure the plan to rekindle the hostilities was sound. By some reason I got approval from Noctis for engaging into clandestine talks with Aurora instead.
Back in Ophir, the plotlines that are close to my heart are helping the resistance against the reign of terror unleashed by Colonel Victor (I hope his name is not prophetic or anything, and he will end up Colonel Looser) and restoring Technomancer abilities to Andrew.
The plot line that drives me nuts is finding the spare parts to fix the rover for Amelia. I found 2, and I do not see anything marked in the maps for the third. Bummer.

I will give difficult fetch quests and puzzles up to half an hour of my time. Then I'll google it. Are you more committed than that?

I will give difficult fetch quests and puzzles up to half an hour of my time. Then I'll google it. Are you more committed than that? It's not puzzles per se, it's just getting around the maps back and forth, back and forth with the respawning mobs. The navigational transparent map does rotate depending on which direction you go in, so it is not that easy to get from where you are to where you want to be. So, it's not so much difficult, as impatient foot tapping inducing. Like, I really want to give paperwork to Scott so he would "fix up" Andrew, but I do not want to run back and forth, and would rather clear more quests on the level I am on before having to find the specific elevator that takes me to his location. So, Andrew still fights one-armed with a mace... And, with all the gear I am getting, I have to endlessly recycle, or he can't sprint. On the upside, I really enjoy the "easy" setting combat in the game. peeps probably think it's repetitive, but it's my kind of thing, and the levels come generously, so Zachariah gets access to lots of cool passives and can reliably do a base fighting build you like and the necromancer build. I really want to see Andrew "back" to doing technomancy too.

you need both arms to Technomance? No, or at least Scott thinks that it's all in the mind. He wants to check his theories and rig up something that will let Andrew to channel his biotics. Technomancers do wear gloves to focus their bio-electrics, so I assume Scott is going to rig up something that will help Andrew to wield his significant powers. I dunno if you want a spoiler, but Andrew's backstory is He was a powerful student, as powerful as they come. But the instructors were so enamored with his gifts that they were not teaching him enough, or he was outpacing them or there might have been a conspiracy... but Master Connor was sincerely apologetic, so I do not know if someone had it in for Andrew. While he does not remember what happened exactly, his power surged, creating a powerful explosion. He woke up in the hospital, dismissed from the school, arm amputated (not clear if it was removed with the malicious intent to prevent him from being a technomancer). Stayed in the slums, was taught by rogue technomancers to hold back the surges properly, but cannot really wield it with purpose like the graduates from the little mancers program. There comes Scott, the all around father figure, and a mad scientists with a personal tragedy in the past that studied all mutations extensively, including the technomancy. he thinks he can get Andrew geared up to be a Real Technomancer, so he can use it in battle.

In the previous two Spiders' games ( Mars: War Logs and Bound by Flame) areas were blocked after you leave them (at the end of a chapter), so there was less backtracking. For rover parts, I think, one is in Amelia's hangar, one can be obtained from the mutant merchant in Noctis (Focus injection or Crafting skill check required), and the last one is in the barracks (not sure).

Yep, the part I could not locate in Ophir was in Noctis. And, yes, yes, apparently I almost manged to deliver everything to everyone, so I was able to return to Noctis, and get to find out what happens to Andrew... Yep, it is the prosthetic arm, and he starts using technomancy in battle. Neato! The prince was cross that Zach was negotiating behind his back, instead of killing people and starting a war. But he decided to give Zach another assignment more in tune with his goodie-goodie two shoes morales, and, well, also told Zach to get his behind in gear and become a Grand Master of the Technomancer. Which he's about to become. I was a bit freaked out because it involved a quiz from a couple of Grand Masters. I managed to get grade 5 or so level questions correctly, but forgot the main purpose o Technomancers. It somehow eluded me that seeking Earth was a big deal... Apparently that becomes a big subplot (?) I think for Zach and the other surviving technos. Amelia is happily fixing her rover, and we did a Noctis' sidequest with getting the thieves that were stealing vital equipment. And, finally, the fist night sleeping in Noctis for Zachariah. Alone. Well, happy dreams, Zach. And me, heh. Hopefully, the plot will start winding down, and Zach gets a kiss eventually.

I know, the Spiders' artwork design is above and beyond any expectations. They have a very talented team. The writing overall is interesting as well, character concepts are terrific, but it feels like they were lacking a strong editorial will and resources to make it shine. I guess that's where they cut corners/had a time crunch.
But what the hell, I threw both Mars and Bound by Flames on my wishlist to see if I can pick it up later in the year. Technomancer certainly is making me a Spiders follower.

That's Amelia fixing the Rover: Yay! But, alas, satisfying her love for that truck did not open flirting options fr da man. Instead, the high maintenance dame requested to find Scott's son that would lead to finding her father. Back to Ophir for Grand Master Zacharaiah. That, btw, went down like really, really, really low key, him being made the great poobah of all Technomancers Actually, not quite. I went and killed a monster, one of those silly sidequests. Then Phobos won't give me his companion mission, because it's like one mission at a time. Settled on a crew of Andrew and Amelia (yeah, now we have A to Z covered) and investigated some troubling news. Apparently, the secret city of Noctis is an open secret. Chased away the Vory - and going to have to negotiate, and got informed that the secret police under the tireless Colonel Victor is also trying to infiltrate it. Well, Dandolo, let's see what a Grand Master can do... right after he delivers a few parcels and searches for the records on Scott's son. But, nice banter with Andrew about the danger we are all in. Glad I brought him along. I guess Zachariah is trying to be busy to not think about Amelia. Damn her for hinting she'd be willing!

Another screenshot of Grand Master Zachariah looking awesome and advertising the wonders of eyeliner. Maybe he was born with it? So what happened tonight in Zach's life was that he went and told Anton to keep out of Noctis. Anton tried to bribe him in keeping is men more discreetly in the city, but Zach was adamant. Anton thought Zach is a fool and made me feel bad... but I am trying to keep Zach trusting Dandola completely. Zach found out that Scott's child is a part o some sort of a secret military experiment & helped the Resistance paper to obtain info an spread their materials in Ophir against Colonel Victor. Then, finally, Zach went to the Lost Dome from the Colonial times to fulfill his vows as a Technomancer and find the way to contact Earth. This is the Team before the enterance to the Dome: And the very first real handsome and alert Zach screenshot is from us finding out we'd walked into a boss battle. Colonial domes always come with the monsters: And, apparently, the rivals as well, because Alan who sold Technomancers to Colonel Victor was there with his loyal gang, and we fought him too. back to Noctis, to report to Dandolo, run Phobos's companion quest, and investigate the disappearance of our mad scientist, Scott In the matters of heart, Zachriah got to compliment Amelia on her poetic outlook on landscapes. They are adorkable when they talk to one another, just so cuuuuute.

Damn. Not only Dandolo kicked Zach out politely asked Zach to leave Noctis, he also became unavailable to hand in a quest. Obviously, there was a series of unfortunate events that led to it. Which of course required Zach to run another Ophir gauntlet to find out that yes, yes, Victor is obsessed with him! And filled Noctis up with secret police, and is about to wedge war against Noctis to just get Zach. Meanwhile on the Mancer front, Zach liberated an entire labor camp - which included "thanks goodness we have Internet!" sequence of finding four different keys without the game not really telling you there are 4... the coup de grace was that one of those keys opened a locker in an room where you found the very first key to get the LAST key. Yeah, if I ever play the game again, I WILL develop my lock picking skill. Meanwhile, the camp was where Neisha was kept in her formative years, so she had a moment there. She is a bit creepy... but we now know why. Zach flirted with her too, just to keep his options open. But... creepy. Also, yeah, we found Scott's friend who confirmed his conclusions that Technomancers are prettier mutants. Speaking of Scott, we found him in the desert badly beaten. Apparently he tried to go home and ran into Alan. We did not get to kill Alan... again. Phobos met the merchant to buy weapons to fight for the Mutant Nation, but was also ambushed by a rival Mutant, apparently, there is a competition to lead the Mutant Nation. Damn, judging by the way the lore is unfolding, Zach's gonna be leading the Mutant Nation soon enough. Just kidding! I'd never take that away from Phobos. He's by whatever reason an endearing character. Okay, we are on our way to meet Aurora Technomancers, because we are pretty much out of places to run...

Ooohh... Apparently, what happened was Dandolo did not quite tell Zach the truth. Aww, my heart's broken. He staged a little show to bring the secret police out of hiding by dressing his men in Aurora uniforms Zach previously stole. Instead of trading Zach to Aurora, Dandolo asked Phobos to shelter the Thechnomancers among the Free Mutants. Alas, nobody consulted the Mutants, and they do not want Zach. Well, not until Zach runs right back and kill stuff. And, of course, Amelia asked for Zach to talk to her. Alone.... ...to give him a quest to go back to Ophir to look in the archives. Woman, we've been to archives!!! Not a day ago... well, she settled for talking to the good old Captain Eliza, but still, if we could only send a pigeon to Ophir if telephones are out of the question... Pic: Dandolo reveals his cunning plan.

A small spoiler for Niesha's companion quest, in case you stuck as I did. The quest marker points to an area beyond the map. To access it, you need to find the door by interacting with the wall, because it is rather hard to notice the door mentioned, unless you know where it is.

A small spoiler for Niesha's companion quest, in case you stuck as I did. The quest marker points to an area beyond the map. To access it, you need to find the door by interacting with the wall, because it is rather hard to notice the door mentioned, unless you know where it is. TY! And, phoray - I do, but at the same time, I want the story to start wrapping up to see what happens in the end. I always reach that point in a game.

It took me forever to find that door! I think I ended up finding it by accident.

I found the door, thanks for the heads up! Certainly one of the more poignant scenes in the game, and just great: Zach steps through the door, and immediately becomes really protective of Niesha. I dunno if I captured the screenshot well, but what he is doing is pretty much trying to push her out of the room, shielding the scene from her with his body. And here Niesha is reading the suicide note, finding out that all the hardships and tortures she'd endured in the labor camp with her whole group of friends is a fallout of something as simple as jealousy of a less popular girl. Well, the emotional ride did not finish there. Zach had finally got to the bottom of the connection between Scott, Andrew, Amelia and himself, the whole story is now presented. To be honest, I am sort of glad not many people see this thread, because am going to blaspheme as say that Scott is right up there with Mordin Solus as a portrait of a scientist that is caught between compassion, personal feelings, ambition and curiosity. It's brilliant, and I do not want to spoil that entire mini story for phoray I'll just say that as a result we found out why Victor wants Zachariah and Zachariah specifically. His, (and Andrew's) both are induced mutation, not naturally occurring. Mutant Nations' internal conflict was resolved fairly fast - and the mutant Valley is a lovely location. I could not bring myself to part with Phobos, and Zach (after a couple boss battles) supported another pro-reason, pro-cooperation candidate to lead the mutants, Scum. Finally, resting in the Mutant Valley unlocked the romantic scene (in full heavy armor) with Amelia. As much as I am attached to Andrew and Niesha, I had no problems committing Zach to locking into the relationship, rather than breaking off and seeing Andrews' and Niesha's confession. Overall, I might be impacted by my interpretation of the relationships in the game, but I am actively shipping Niehsa and Andrew, and, well, Zach seems very comfortable with Andrew (I am reading very close friend there, rather than romance), protective around Niehsa (and I was not in a mood for a knighting romance) and shy around Amelia, so Amelia was it. And, the game now suggest to gather allies and destroy Victor politically, rather than in a direct military confrontation.

It's interesting how, with a fixed protaganist, it is actually more how the protag flirts with the NPC than the NPC flirts with the protag. Zach was shy with Amelia unlike the other two Feels of the other options.
