I think it's one of those reasons. I know that part of my reasons is that Inquisition has more romances that doesn't make me want to throw bean bags at them (the romance, not the characters). I don't really want to get attached to Alistair because I don't want to go through the unpleasant business of dealing with having made him sleep with another woman. I can't seem to take Zevran seriously with his Puss in Boots accent and attitude, Fenris makes me want to do what someone suggested and carve "intersectionality" onto a stick and very gently wap him with it. And Anders...let's just say I feel bad for any Anders fans who love this guy and are being judged for it. I had to Google the word, but now that I know... that's super funny. Yes, that is a frustration. I think the light "comes on" in a very specific dialogue that can be missed. If you don't have enough points, you end up killing him. If you have enough points, then he never turned on you. However, there is this tiny overlap zone. If you don't enough points, and he leaves with the Templars, it garners more rival points for him. So between that decision, and the next time you see him, he's gained "enough." Then Hawke can use the argument, "Don't you see that this is just as wrong as Slavery?" And he finally gets it. Agrees. And turns on the Templars he just walked in with. Does that help your opinion of Fenris? I do so love that elf. I don't judge Anders lovers as I am one. Oh I don't hate Fenris. I can like someone even if they make me want to throttle them. It can sound contradictory, but despite my wishes to vent my frustration out on them, I still would stand by them. Which is why I love how that person voiced their desire. Make your feelings clear with a friend in a very careful but funny matter.

I voted for Inquisition - but actually it's very nearly a tie with Origins (I haven't played DA:2 so can't comment on that). The characters in both DAI and DAO are actually very interesting, very diverse and have interesting backgrounds. So I probably prefer the Inquisition companions because I feel like I got to know them better and do so much crazy stuff with them. I also love the amount of banter and other interaction the companions have with each other and not just the main character.

1. DA2 2. DAO 3. DAI
I chose DA2 since they seem more like friends and it appears more natural. I also think it had the best banter of all the game by far. DAO was a close second for me. I liked the camp time where everyone was close by and you could talk with each one. Didn't seem as natural as DA2, but enjoyed it. DAI was last. I found all the companions annoying and didn't care one bit about any of them. I can't comment on the banter since I had the banter bug that Bioware says doesn't exist. Most of my traveling with the companions was done in silence. I never even bothered to romance anyone in my one play-through of the game.

Absolutely without a doubt DA:O. Every companion was multi-dimensional and conceivably likeable, I actually cared about every single one. In the other games they were too 'divisive', and there were multiple times where I simply couldn't conceive my PC even acknowledging their existence.
While the opportunity to ignore them is there, I think the best game is one where all companions are 'likeable' but appreciated for different reasons. The companions still need to be believable as being on the PC's side, although certainly imperfect as individuals.
