2017 might not actually be that bad

2017 was a mixed bag, but so was the year before that, and the year before that, and so on and so forth since the year I was born way back in the late 70s.

It depends on your personal situation. i feel in general that things are generally getting worse. Yes technology has improved the lives for humans overall and has made things better/easier....but i notice the stark trend in the gap between the rich and the poor. You used to be able to say "middle class" but that term is a mere shell of what it used to be as most folks only have enough to cover for emergencies or are living from paycheck to paycheck.


All of those things in terms of humans living longer and things of that nature points to technology, but are humans actually living a better way of life? Yes we are living longer, but we are also sitting longer in traffic and working longer....even those that work from home are working longer hours.....i think technology is making our life spans longer, but i don't necessarily see quality of life improving so much.

I've seen and known too many people driving nice cars, decent jobs and are struggling to pay the mortgage bills..etc...some might immediately point to bad money management, but i think we just fall into this trap of "how you are supposed to function and engage in life"....it feels like alot of neverending hustle and bustle, rat-race to a melting pot of financial debt in search of some sort of prestigious relevant job title to justify your "status"


A little self-projecting here..... .....but yeah overall....i feel that things are just getting worse......even with the leaps in technology we have made.

2017 has been pretty good to me, all things considered, although it's obviously been a tumultuous year (but then again, name a year in modern history that hasn't been a roller coaster of good and bad). I'm looking forward to 2018 as well, as I'll be getting to take a bit of a break from school to focus on other things and hopefully come back to it with less stress and sharper focus.

Don't worry, there is still plenty of time for a plague or for Mars to invade

On tech/environment, I think we're screwed ( 10-20 years max) unless nano tech saves us. On social/political matters, multiculturalism, liberalism and religious tolerance is on decline and will continue.

For me personally, 2017 was a difficult year. On the global scale, I think it was pretty good considering the trainwreck that was 2016.

It was a year. Pretty yearlike, overall, I think.

Just a steady decline.
