This article is mostly useful in understanding what net neutrality actually is. www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/12/15/donald-trump-jr-had-a-point-about-net-neutrality-then-he-took-it-too-far/?utm_term=.40e8d7781200The most relevant quote imo: "Net neutrality isn't about how these companies treat consumers — not directly, anyway. It's about how they treat each other. It means that Comcast, a part owner of Netflix rival Hulu, can't artificially slow down Netflix streaming to give Hulu a competitive advantage. It means that Internet providers have to treat all content the same." The misunderstanding about Netflix is an important example. Netflix's tiered system might be an example of corporate greed, sure, but that's not a question with any relation to the principal of net neutrality. Acting out of greed itself is permissible, so long as a company isn't rigging the system (or, you know, knowingly and directly harming people) in order to do so.

Yes, I am aware I'm reviving a dead thread. But I'm also reminding everyone that this issue isn't dead yet. I just got the following email, and I figure I'll post it here too. Here's hoping people don't give up the fight: Matt, We have tons of momentum for Operation: #OneMoreVote on February 27th. Popular sites like Tumblr, Etsy, Vimeo, Namecheap, GitHub, Fiverr, Imgur, Medium, Patreon, Slashdot, and DuckDuckGo have agreed to help drive calls, emails, and tweets to senators on the big day. But we still need help to put Internet users in touch with lawmakers. We only need *one more vote* in the Senate before we take the fight the House of Representatives. But to pull this off, we need a critical mass demanding their senator support the CRA. To help with this, we’ve overhauled our contact Congress alert widgets with a fresh new ‘Operation: #OneMoreVote’ look. You can see one in action here. If you run your own site, please add this code to display a prominent alert asking your users to pressure the Senate, and help us win the final vote needed to pass the CRA. Adding an alert is one of the best ways you can drive calls and emails to Congress. But if you don’t run a site, we have other resources to maximize your impact on the day of action: Here's the link to push out: www.battleforthenet.com/onemorevote. The code for the ‘contact Congress’ alert widgets can be found here. Please spread the word on social using the hashtag #OneMoreVote. There is tons of sample social media content and graphics / video etc here. A few quick tweets to retweet here, here, and here. Ask people to text MISSION to 384-387 and sign up them up for the day of action. If you need anything else, or have any questions, don’t hesitate to hit REPLY and ask. For more info on Operation: #OneMoreVote, you can see my original email below. –Josh

Matt—Operation: #OneMoreVote is TOMORROW, and we need to make sure it's a huge success. Will you chip in to help defend net neutrality?
Dear Matt,
This week, the Federal Communications Commission officially published its order to overturn net neutrality.1
FCC Chair Ajit Pai is under investigation by the FCC's internal watchdog for bias toward Sinclair in its takeover bid of Tribune—it's not hard to believe that he did the same for Big Cable with the net neutrality vote.2 But we only have 60 legislative days to get the Senate to reject the FCC's handout to Big Cable.
On February 27, Demand Progress and our allies are organizing a massive day of action we're calling Operation: #OneMoreVote to flood the Senate with phone calls from regular folks and small businesses. We've joined with a coalition of net neutrality advocates and websites including Etsy and Imgur to get this done, and we need your help.
Will you chip in $40 to help defend net neutrality and make Operation: #OneMoreVote a success?
Most Americans don’t think their Internet Service Providers should be able to censor content, slow down certain websites, or shake us down for extra fees. That's why most Americans—including more than 75 percent of Republicans—support net neutrality.3
It's time to mobilize that public support like never before. Even though FCC Chair Ajit Pai pushed through the repeal of net neutrality rules, a simple majority in Congress can restore the safeguards—and the pro-Big Cable leadership can’t stop them.4
We have a huge head start in the Senate, where Maine Republican Susan Collins has joined all 49 Democrats to oppose the FCC's order. We need just one more senator to get to 51.
We're running out of time: Now that Pai's order is published in the Federal Register, Congress has just 60 legislative days to act.
So here's what we're doing, with your support:
Helping lead Operation: #OneMoreVote, our huge day of action on February 27, to drive a flood of phone calls to the Senate Organizing Team Internet actions in eight cities targeting senators who could be our 51st vote, including Las Vegas, Denver, and New Orleans Arranging meetings with Senate offices and small businesses who will be unfairly impacted by the repeal of net neutrality
Unprecedented grassroots support for a fair and open internet has gotten us this far. Now we need turn up the pressure to get across the finish line. We're counting on you, our members, to provide the resources we need to make this one of our biggest days of action ever.
Will you chip in $40 to help defend net neutrality and make Operation: #OneMoreVote a success?
Thanks for standing with us,
Mark Stanley, Demand Progress DONATE

Just got a new update. We aren't getting enough people calling/writing their reps. We need more help.
Anyone know anyone else who isn't calling/writing/emailing?

I'm sad for you guys. Hope it doesn't touch Canada. At least we already turned it into a utility bill. (Not that that's anything more but paper armour...)
Interesting that state level governments are taking action to only do business with Net Neutrality compliant companies though.

I'm sad for you guys. Hope it doesn't touch Canada. I suspect that Canadian (and most international) companies and governments will have to do something similar to the states restricting business to compliant providers. Because of the jurisdiction, if Comcast or Vorizon or any other provider applies a slowdown that effects international companies, there is no legal recourse, since their governing regulatory body doesn't prohibit the practice. While the commercial isolation would probably eventually curb the practice, a lot of damage would likely be done before that was achieved, so here's hoping there is follow-through on reversing the decision.

And the net neutrality battle still has to rage on while granola eaters scream over petty things in vagina hats and wonder why they lose.
