Much of the internet wants EA to suffer and Bioware to die off because they want to do different games than they used to.
Take Reddit, the hive mind there fucking hates Bioware. They will be all too happy to dance on its grave.
As such, I hope Anthem is a resounding success and becomes almost genre defining just like Mass Effect was. Just so I can laugh at the internet crow eating.

If it is, it doesn't matter what Reddit has to say.

If it is, it doesn't matter what Reddit has to say. I agree, the internet has been wanting BioWare to die off since Dragon Age 2. We really don't know what EA thought of Andromeda and cancelling the DLC doesn't prove anything at least to me since they spent six months fixing the game. What that shows to me is they didn't think DLC would sell enough copies, but DLC always doesn't sell very well after six months its why expansions are a rare occurrence because people buy games play them and move on. I don't see Anthem being a big failure either until I see the final product, I just think it is going for an audience that isn't what BioWare has aimed for in the past.

Honestly, I think gaming journalism and the free-for-all cesspit of youtube clickbait is going to kill off all kinds of creativity and independent thought. Mob mentality in action. No one is allowed to enjoy anything any more. Devs have to make a game to an exacting list of preferences of the masses and god help them if they deviate.
There is this toxic strain of thought at the moment that Indie is good and Corp is bad, and that kind of black and white mentality is going to crumble everything.

I'm not going to attract large audiences like Sterling or AJ or anyone that does that for a living. My focus is to do 6-10 minute videos of specific content and avoid bashing, cursing and melodrama. I want to be friendly for an entire audience of 7-8 years old and up. Some games with their mature content rating will cause me to prompt the video with a warning, but I want to ENJOY the product. I want to share the experience and get others to do the same with me (maybe a Twitch stream... I can hear the loud chorus of "git gud." That may be my anthem.) I want to bring developers who know and trust I won't crap all over them or ask them questions that would jeopardize their NDA. It's fluff and softball, but it's... what I want.

Ricitello was the one who set this all in motion. Salivating over the COD crowd and starting the whole tack on MP horde mode madness. He was the one being instrumental in moving the ME and DA franchises away from being single player RPGs. EA gets the most flak because they are arguably the largest game corporation out there. And because they are the ones aiming for the casual mass market the most. They also are the ones who most aggressively took care of their competition by buying one studio after the other. Yes, that's the market allowing for that, but less competition is worse for the consumer. Not only in gaming. It's also not true that others don't get any flak. Rockstar got a taste of that when they made modding impossible by outlawing the single most important modding tool. The outrage was on the same lines as with EA. An unfriendly act against consumers to rake in even more money through microtransactions. And yet he was also the one that had restraint and actively developed new IP without the multiplayer madness. Also, last I checked all I see is a sea of videos, online threads, reddit posts and the like bashing EA ad-nauseum for sneezing the wrong way. Rockstar got a bit of flak for their modding tool, yet it's not a constant stream of videos shouting doom and gloom at the heavens over it and over Rockstars other practices. Part of the problem is the imbalance of criticism over what is deserved and what is not. A lot of people let other companies with even more egregious crimes off the hook way too easily. And we don't see a shit ton of videos on it either because they don't get clicks, but that is gaming culture now a days anyway, so I guess I should be used to it. I agree, I believe Rockstar gets away we with much stuff. It is like people think that cause they gave us RDR and GTA, they are exempt from criticism. If EA did for their games what R* did for GTA5 in terms of not doing sp dlc in favor of more "free" content aimed at luring people to buy Shark Cards, we would never hear the end of it.

Don't forget that is they try new things it is twisted to be anti-consumer and if they don't try new things it anti-consumer and people yell from the rooftops about it. I think the newest thing about EA and the white papers they released is proof of that, we don't know how or where it might be implemented, but we do know that people have already decided how they are going to implemented to rip players off with microtransactions.

Publishers fund the projects, not their affiliated or contracted developers. It's the publishers asking for monetization looking for better return on their investments. Developers only execute. So, what would be the most obvious and simplest way to remedy this? I'm thinking find a lot of investors that can handle profit returns in more realistic terms and allow for flexibility. It seems that the fuse to blow up studios is getting shorter and shorter... and yet BioWare is still around. That's amazing in itself. If EA wants to sell off BioWare, who would realistically be a publisher for them that isn't going to use the same blatant, bullcrap antics EA manages to pull off more brazenly with each title? I can't think of one. CDPR

Unless all you want to play is Dragon Age 4, Dragon Age 5... etc.

As someone who’s working on a video (lore, not news, but planning to do Bioware news in the future). I’m pretty appalled by a lot of the clickbait doom prophesying I see about Anthem.
I hope to avoid such practices. I just want to calmly talk about what we know and reasonable possibilities. Which is why I decided to make a lore video my first, because we have nothing Anthem related to talk about.

The lawsuits are a symptom of it and I only see it getting worse before it gets better because it takes a long time to unwind all that investor money.

Doom gets clicks. Pretty much every game/movie/tv show I like gets hog piled with videos about why every aspect is total shit in comparison with what went before. Folk can express themselves as they wish, but being unhappy about everything doesn't seem to be a very healthy outlook to me.

Unless all you want to play is Dragon Age 4, Dragon Age 5... etc. Can't help but wonder how much more productive CDPR could be combining their ideas with a larger parent company's resources at it's fingertips...it's a double edged sword all this EAesque malarkey. I agree, we do not know. But I just wanted to point out in my OP that CDPR's development strategy and productivity is not compatible with what BioWARE was going for when they went looking for backing. Bio was always about multiple parallel IPs and trying to produce games more frequently rather than less. And tbh, I hope they stay with that idea, because while some folks are ready to wait for many years for a release, I am not big on either polish or tons of content, I want to see more worlds, meet more characters, and play through more stories.

Oh, please. CDPR can’t even release their own second game. They will never manage multi-IP properties and release cadence BioWare did with EA. Unless all you want to play is Dragon Age 4, Dragon Age 5... etc. Can't help but wonder how much more productive CDPR could be combining their ideas with a larger parent company's resources at it's fingertips...it's a double edged sword all this EAesque malarkey. EA isn't alone in any of their actions, most of the big publishers that control multiple developers are the exact same way, they just don't get the focus the same way EA does. Recently with Visceral and BioWare Montreal, all they did was move staff around and close the buildings. Most of BioWare Montreal became part of Motive Studios and I don't follow Visceral the same was as BioWare, but I bet it would have made news if they laid off or fired a hundred people or more. So in the big arena of AAA game publishing it really is you deal with someone that can give you money to stay afloat if it would be a major publisher like EA, or run the risk of having the same problems as 38 Studios.
