My fellow forumites:
Anthem is the next major Bioware game on the schedule. What is your take on it so far, and why?
Again, this is just to get a feel for what people are thinking. I do not expect rigorously justified opinion pieces. You can go off of any number of reasons, or just your gut!
Vote and comment!

Personally I hope it crashes and burns. Bioware has died a very slow death since it got gobbled up by EA. All the Bio peeps I can remember are long gone. All that's left is a name and reputation both of which have taken something of a beating over the past few years.

With how games have been getting released as of late, i suspect Anthem will try to be good, but will be riddled with microtransactions and a rushed story that wont be the full fault of the devs, but rather the more higher ups who demand quantity (or rather, much dollar!) at the sacrifice of quality
But time will soon tell and i'll happily eat my words if it turns out to be something amazing!

When I first heard about Anthem I wasn't terribly excited about it since I'm not a Destiny, Battlefront type of gamer. but I thought that it would be good addition for Bioware to have that type of title in their stable so long as I still get my single player rpg games from Bioware. But after reading the comments of EA CFO Blake Jorgensen and how he is claiming that "single player linear games aren't as popular as they used to be". Which I consider to be a telling statement about what type of games that EA is going to focus on going forward .

I expect this poll will pretty much recap the Does anyone give a crap about this game? poll, but fwiw, I voted Caustiously Optimistic. I was very negative before the trailer was shown -- with all the rumors that it was going to be SF (again?) and MP -- but the trailer and the announcement hype turned me around. There's a chance it could be fun to play solo. I played Destiny 1 solo and enjoyed it enough to get my money's worth, I'm hoping for something similar for Anthem.

I'm more neutral, I have no expectations from it as I'm not interested in something we know so little nor will I say it'll fail based off other actions from other franchises. I'll get more into it once more is shown of the game, but till then anything said here on the game is just speculation.

I likely sit on cautiously optimistic. I definitely want it to be good, but the biggest hurdle I see for the game right now is EA. Anthems gameplay could be really good, but if EA pulls their MTX nonsense it could definitely not bode well for the game. From what I've learned from Brenon Holmes (Anthems Technical Lead Designer), it sounds like he at least understands some of the hurdles involved with making a shared-world shooter. I kinda hope they go the path of yearly (year and a half) expansions, rather than releasing another game after 3 years. It's already biting Bungie in the ass with how they're trying to deliver MMO-scale content within a standard DLC release format. Not enough time to work out the kinks and deliver quality content all around.

-(_ANTHEM_)-
I'm torn.
Anthem will have awesomeness in graphics, combat. Four man co-op team is best for P2P connections while EA servers will handle Horde attacks (ie: team vs environment or team vs team). Possibly, also daily/weekly/monthly events.
Solo play is up in the air but the FPS in the hubs seem to dictate no romance and that leads to no main story arc for our character. There is no room for "movie-like" cinematic scenes between our main character (the player) and the NCPs.... ergo no personal stories (other than background info).
Online-service and multiplayer design is key in this game. Here is where Bio can fall in the game's monetization, progression schemes and player's online experience, such as online compliance, game world interactions and co-op match-making / horde groupings for normal and staged events, quality and frequency of new content (possible at a cost).
My main concern is that over time, progression will slow down making MTs a very tempting quick fix.
No Anthem excitement for me... not after SWBF2 fracas. 🌸

I don't see a single reason to purchase this because I haven't seen enough information yet (I would argue that few of us have unseen). Then I haven't played a BioWare game I didn't enjoy, so at this point, it's likely I'll buy, play and enjoy this one.
Roll on 2018 and we'll find out either way, I guess.

I'm indifferent bordering on dislike.
The first trailer failed to impressed me it looked unoriginal from a dozen different similar games. Nothing looked fresh or interesting. Even "the pretty graphics" looked dull. I was more impressed with Life is Strange: Before the Storm's teaser than I was Anthem's teaser.
I'm not into FPS or TPS MMOs and with the recent shit with Star Wars: Battlefront II lootboxes and microtranactions. It feels more like a more poor-man's Destiny 2 and I'm not into FPS MMOs (which is what games like Destiny, Star Wars: Battlefront, Overwatch and their sequels are and if you disagree please fuck off).
The PR has been confusing and stupid I feel like EA is trying to get me to hate Anthem.
So in conclusion: this game looks dull as shit, feels like a rip off and is being released by a company that will stick microtransactions and lootboxes in it to rip off more players.

Well - When Anthem was announced, I was a bit enthusiastic.
Then I learned it was probably multiplayer oriented, I got that distinct sinking feeling. Then I saw how ME:A was treated by EA, that sinking feeling became way stronger. Then I saw how Starwars Battlefront 2 was changed (undoubtedly under pressure of EA) into Starwars: "The Wrath of the microtransactional lootboxes", and realized what implications that could have for Anthem, I was sinking like wearing giant shoes made of lead.
And now I need a bloody bathysphere to emerge any enthusiasm at all...

I expect this to be very different from Bioware games of the past. However, given the significant writing talent we know to be involved I remain optimistic.

No doubt.
Speaking of "how Anthem will be", the link below is from Star Citizen Squadron 42 pre-Alpha WIP gameplay video stream. This link contains a vertical slice of the game play with comments from Game Director Chris Roberts, Technical Director of Content Sean Tracy, and Lead Writer Dave Haddock
It's an FPS viewpoint while in the ship. The comments are actually interesting because they are about the facial captures, the need to have the artists manually touch up the faces and eye blinking and for some of the colours being washed out and camera control. From Haddock, there are some comments about how the NPCs react to you. Also, interesting bits about the AI and how it responds to you actions. They don't want the AI to be too scripted.
Anthem's hubs will probably look like Star Citizen FPS pov while you move around the bazaar or drinking dens. Well it's a clue if nothing else.
Too bad we don't get this type of commentaries from Bio.

Being multiplayer-centric in and of itself is already a serious enthusiasm-killer, so I’ll really have to know more about the stuff I don’t need horrid IRL folks to enjoy to determine how I feel about all this. I guess I’ll be cautiously optimistic, but not that much.

I'm optimistic in that it be a good game but then i loved DA2 liked DA:I an thought ME:A was no bad so im confident i will/would like it, but, there always a but, i think there a better than average chance of it failing simply because EA an BioWare names are on the box, if those 2 names weren't on the box this game prob be one of the biggest sellers when/if released.

If there is one thing I believe it's Bioware being able to pull way better off what Star Citisn't (or Sq 42 for that matter) tries to do. Looks like Crobbers still tries to do interactive movies to me.

About the last sentence: I don't think Anthem really would sell if you removed Bioware or EAs name because any new IP struggles if it's not a brand known name making it. Destiny wouldn't be what it is if it as an out of no where no name developmer. It sells because of the name "Bungie" and their past success with halo. Activision also plays a part as they're one of the largest publishers out there and can spend a ton to market the franchise and get it thrown out there. It takes a miracle for a new ip with a developer with a small name to it to really blow the industry. There's tons of new IPs/developers who fail because of so few sales and that's because they don't have the name recognition to get people's interest. It's an Industry where you have to make a name for yourself before you can be part of the big dogs of the industry. The only way Anthem sells if you removed Bioware/EA is if you replaced them with another big name like bethesda, Bungie, CDRED, Square Anix, etc etc. it's doubtful some studio called *whatever* would sell much if they're not a known brand. Like I said, it'd have to be a miracle to get a new IP to blow the industry when you're not a recognized name. Now does Bioware and EAs name on Anthem cause issues? Yes because both have an iffy track record on their recent projects. Sales will undoubtedly be effected because of it. It is something that can be fixed however IF Anthem ends up as a truly great game that gains attention and traction on launch and afterwords. You have to do the right thing to get people to praise it, and then spread how good it is to others to then repeat the process. I don't see Anthem getting high sales regardless of how good it is as Bioware games have NEVER been high selling games vs it's best competition. You can combine all the mass effect games and they won't even come close to most of bethesdas games on their own. You can do the same with CDREDs W3, Bungie a destiny game, Ubisoft a the division game, and the list can go on. The only way Bioware will see 10+ million in sales is by long term gain. Again, they'd have to make a truly great game that is innovative to get the attention first, and then spread by word of mouth over time. They just don't have that power to get those numbers immediately like other developers do. It's why I say as great as Bioware can be, they're still bottom tier of the AAA industry.
