It'll be good IF there's one thing Bioware does right it's the first installment of a new IP. Every fucking time they have hit a grand slam. Jade Empire lol.

So far I see zero reason to be invested. To me it looks like EA's attempt at copying Destiny (which I also have zero interest for). I never played Bioware games for shiny graphics or to run around killing things for loot. And it's EA so it'll make a great monetization machine. The multiplayer games have the best audience for that kind of shit anyways. Also I might be a tad bit salty about Andromeda since, as far as I know, Anthem clearly took priority over Mass Effect, getting their A team while Andromeda got the freaking C team or something. Well, it's EA so I should't be surprised. Didn't they say some bs that singleplayer games don't interest people? That line of thought reeeally makes me optimistic about their direction . Poor Bioware. I fell in love with their games for reasons (story, characters, lore, roleplaying) EA doesn't seem to give two shits about. Multiplayer games filled with microtransactions is the new hot stuff where all the mass market appeal lies! So yes... I'm being highly pessimistic . I know it's early and I might be proven wrong, maybe singleplayer will get enough attention to be worth it, but *shrug* can't help how I feel now.

Well, it's EA so I should't be surprised. Didn't they say some bs that singleplayer games don't interest people? 1) That’s actually close to the opposite of how it went down. Anthem, though we aren’t sure of its original pitched form, was pitched to EA by the lead Edmonton devs after they finished Mass Effect 3. It was Casey Hudson’s pet project apparently. They were burnt out on Mass Effect, especially after the ending backlash and spending almost a decade on the series. However, EA wanted to keep capitalizing on the brand so there was a push for continuing sequels even though Mass Effect 3 was the natural endpoint of the series. That was how Montreal ended up with the gig. 2) A common misquote, what they actually said was that they didn’t think people were interested in linear experiences as much as they used to be (Here referencing the likes of adventure games like uncharted) so not something directly related to Bioware products really.

The Blake Jorgensen (CFO) quote was:
"As we kept reviewing the game, it continued to look like a much more linear game [which] people don't like as much today as they did five years ago or 10 years ago,"
What I find interesting is that Jorgensen appears to be conflating 'liking' with 'buying'. 'Linear' games like Dishonored 2, Wolfenstein and others were critically 'liked', but disappointed financially.
I'd rephrase his words more accurately as:
"As we kept reviewing the game, it continued to look like a much more linear game [which] people don't buy in as large numbers today as they did five years ago or 10 years ago,"
And there's the rub, a game can be critically appreciated and not make its numbers. For all the anger, Battlefront II was still the #1 digitally downloaded game on PSN in Europe in December.

I mean Wolfenstein 2 won The Game Award for best action game, and it has not sold well. There was an article recently with an interview between Amy Hennig and the Firewatch creater, and there's this quote from Amy Hennig about cancelling the linear Star Wars game she was working on: Which in all honesty sounds exhausting, to make a game that people keep saying they want, and have it not sell.

More thoughts on Anthem.
(1)
A totally online experience for monetization and for piracy prevention. Denuvo is quite laughable, these days.
(2)
Psychological manipulations such as showing the content of LBs from other players on the same screen may also be a design principle. The weak minded will salivate at getting their own LBs. Notice how the game pacing slowed down to show us the LB content, from the first trailer? We have a vast open world full of deadly creatures and intelligent enemies. Yet, the games stops to show us the loot.... Hmm.
(3)
Slow game pacing implies this game is not a shooter. Or is it? From the fort to the storm portal clearly it is not. Perhaps through the portal is a different proposition as in the likes of MEAMP maps.
(4) MP maps. Some default ones to start and others need to be discovered / earned?

Hmm.. D2 fans are screaming again. Something about Token throttling along with a lack of communication to the players about how all of this works.
Seems to be a good idea for Bio to look at D2's problems and do something to avoid them like the plague. Of course, it all comes down to a solid game design.... something which I strongly suspect D2 lacks. Ergo, problems and fan outrage.
If D2 fans come over to Anthem and find similar problems, will they make themselves known with fire and fury? Social media is a two way sword and REDDIT is a good vehicle to express rage. 🌸

Actually I’ve seen a lot of D2 fans directly praising Brenon Holmes and his responsiveness I've seen a lot of anger from the previous two throttling cases, this one doesn't seem to have reached as much anger, so much as a lot of sarcastic posting - I'm not sure that's a good thing though cus it might mean people don't care about the game much anymore? From the NPD results apparently while it sold really well at launch, it seems to have quite a short tail, and the particition lvls I've heard people quoting are at quite low lvls (I've heard from forum posters, not the official results, I think it was 11% of players that bought the game still playing?). So the bad publicity and the simple fact a lot of people weren't keen on the rejig from Destiny 1, seem to have been having an effect on the game.

Downloading Warframe and reading up on the Quick Start Guide. While reading the Guide, I noticed some similarities between Anthem and Warframe (a poster or two also mentioned this), like:
(1)
Warframe relies heavily on MODS (they play a large role) while in Anthem the Exosuits are heavily customizable. The Anthem narrator mentions "look and play". I gather the "look" will be cosmetic items and the "play" are MODS that enhance the suit. Will MODS also play a large role in Anthem?
(2)
Both games give the player access to multiple armours. Warframes are purchased in the Market while in Anthem the player will "earn an array of Exosuits". "Earn" is an interesting word choice, here. Probably it's a function of unlocking these suits via completing quests and leveling up.... I hope.
It's unclear who does the suit upgrades in Anthem. Warframe has a MODS Station and a Foundry Station for constructing items. Will the Anthem player be responsible for their own upgrades as well? In the trailer she simply says "... trying new upgrades...". I suspect the player will have their own upgrade stations. It allows the game to connect random LB content (lots of useless resource materials) to the MODS upgrade function and frustrating the player with a lack of much needed materials, imo.
🌸
EDIT: for clarity.

This doesn't appear to be my type of game, but I am hoping it has reasonable success. I want Bioware around to create more DA games, a new fantasy IP,and MEA2 (yes I know....). If Anthem fails, Bioware may go bye bye.

Then again, has Bioware given us reason to be optimistic about this game?

EDIT: for clarity.
Some clarification on Warframe: Warframes can be bought in the market for real money if you want it now, completely assembled and super-charged. Other methods of acquisition are: - buy the overall blueprint in the market for in-game credits, and acquire its component blueprints by killing bosses - some warframe blueprints are received as quest rewards - some warframe blueprints are researched at player constructed laboratories - prime warframe blueprints are received from void relics, Warframe's version of lootboxes (acquired via gameplay, not real money) Blueprints are used for assembly at the Foundry from resources collected in game. Mods are looted in game and improved via resources collected in game.

Warframes can be build with in game rewards. I only ever bought one (and got a variant as goody for being a founder). The only thing that cannot be earned is slots and some cosmetics. You need those slots - they are your inventory space, but they are not expensive.

This may be unpopular but I recently started playing SWTOR and if the quests and story of Anthem are to be made like that, it might be successful after all SWTOR has its flaws but I've enjoyed it for the most part. But yes if they do the quests like they did the original game (level 1-50) it might be something I'd consider playing. Guess we'll find out when they actually start to market the game. Still don't have really high hopes though.
