Curious who your favourite Director is, and why?
Not going to limit answers with a poll for this one. Too many potential choices to pare down.

That's a toughie.
I can only narrow it down to three: Stanley Donen, Alfred Hitchcock and Billy Wilder. Stanley Donen for Royal Wedding, Singin' In The Rain and others. Alfred Hitchcock for Psycho (scariest movie ever), North by Northwest, Rear Window and Rebecca. Billy Wilder for Stalag 17, Sunset Boulevard, Witness for the Prosecution and Sabrina.

James Cameron. He's not only cool and has a good eye for what's cool, he's the only total package director in that he knows every part of movie making outside of being a musician & doing CGI; - he's actually a talented artist that can draw highly detailed concept art & matte paintings - knows how cameras work and even pushes this technology forward - is a writer - nobody understands good action scenes better (even did the action scenes for Rambo II) - editing skills - practical special effects - etc. Basically on set James Cameron knows how to do everyone's job and better. There's a reason why he's notorious for being a perfectionist.

I don't really have a favorite director, but if I had to pick one, it would be Pre-2000's Ridley Scott. I am forever grateful for Alien and Bladerunner, a ton of his other movies are enjoyable too.
Too bad he has gone senile, which is the only explanation I have for his recent load of rancid turds he calls movies. Especially the new asinine Alien trash flicks. The hell?

I thought Bridge of Spies was actually a pretty good film. Mr. Spielberg styles -other than minimalistic sci-fi -just seem slightly... off to me. By minimalistic I mean not the overloaded tinted-screen/CGI/CGA we have got ever since his version of the War of the Worlds debuted. Though I doubt most would agree with me so with better places to be...

Steven Spielberg Christopher Nolan Mel Gibson Toshiro Mifune Quentin Tarantino Ridley Scott Mel Brooks Tim Burton I'm down with this, except for Burton. I think he's overrated. Otherwise, another great not yet mentioned: John Carpenter And a lesser known director, but one still I still find myself liking most if not all of his movies- Vincenzo Natali, director of Cube.

I don't have a favorite though the closest one would be Clint Eastwood
westerns - Sergio Leone - his spaghetti westerns were great especially the greatest western movie of all time, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly in 1967
comedy - Blake Edwards - his Pink Panther movies in the '70's were excellent starring Peter Sellers
mystery/suspense - Alfred Hitchcock - always like his movies especially North By Northwest and To Catch a Thief
science fiction - James Cameron - His Terminator movies were excellent.
As for TV, I would say all the individuals responsible for directing the episodes for the TV show M*A*S*H.
