Has anyone got any recs for RPG games like Dragon Age? Must haves: Fantasy universe with magic/mages etc., not sci-fi or shooters, tried ME, didn't like it. 3rd person camera like DAI/DA2 etc., no top-down/isometric type, they give me vertigo. No 1st person camera, again vertigo inducing. Basically what I want is a Dragon Age clone, LOL! Story is more important to me than combat mechanics. DA2 is my favourite game ever and I have lost count how many times I've played it. I have PS4, Xbox One and a PC (although it is not great specs so probably newer stuff won't work.) Thanks

SWTOR does have the companions (just one) but is definitely sci-fi. TW3 lacks companions but is very fantasy oriented.

SWTOR does have the companions (just one) but is definitely sci-fi. TW3 lacks companions but is very fantasy oriented Well, just one that can accompany you at a time, but 40+ all together. I dunno, I think everyone is familiar with SW, so it's up to them to figure out if spaceships and blasters make it into sci-fi, or the swords of light and magic spells make it into fantasy. And, eriador117 some of my rec's will be: Bound by Flames will be like BioWARE Lite with an intriguing story but noticeably lacking in character development/companions’ dialogues. But otherwise it fits your description. Buy it on sale though as YMMV (hugely). If the games with the older graphics are okay with you, then you can try: Jade Empire, Drakensang and Neverwinter Nights 2 – YMMV very much on them. I suggest watching them to see if you can stand the games that old even if they are 3D. Content -wise they will be somewhat close, but graphics will not be. I don't know where Skyrim belongs, but I have a vague idea that it qualifies, so long as you enjoy the OW/customization component and do not expect deep story and meaningful relationships with characters. The same I think is true about the Dragon Dogma. If you read Star Wars verse as fantasy, not sci-fi, then you can add KOTOR, KOTOR2 and SWTOR (playing the solo stories). Other games to take a look at, depending on how attached you are to the customized lead and companions vs just a story is Wicther, and whatever hack/slash games with the settings that appeal to you. If you are okay with sort of history rather than openly mages, Assassin Creed’s games are sort of, kind of… I dunno, maybe…? Most likely not. If you can stand playing MMOs solo, and w/o companions, stuff like Guild Wars. But 3D party-based games with customized protagonist… you are back to Dragon Age.

All the Elder Scrolls games let you play in third person, though generally the combat feels smoother in first person imo. I will say that the Elder Scrolls Online feels much smoother in the first person perspective to me than the others, so if you enjoy mmos at all you could give it a try. The series isn't anywhere as story/companion driven as Dragon Age however.

Thank you everyone. I think I will give Jade Empire a try and look out some JRPGs as well. Does the KOTOR games have lots of space battles? (flashing lights etc.) If so, that one's probably out. Online MMO games are not suitable as our internet is dire and I'd probably never get to play it. @jadedreamer I'll look out some of the older ones too. Anything with Dragon in the title has me half-way there

I remember that in kotor2 your spaceship crashes a lot, as a result of someone’s plot-important piloting skills (*cough*) but I do not remember any flight simulator mini games. I was always focused on playing Jedi, so I distinctively remember the lightsabers... and... yeah, I am drawing blank on spaceships. Basically, I just remember flying from a planet to planet, and fighting on foot, and the romances. Swtor really overlays over the kotor memories for me now. Anyone with the more recent impressions?

I'd suggest Obsidian Entertainment and Spiders games. Jade Empire was mentioned already. The Tales of series is closer to JRPG, but technically they are 3d-person RPGs. I guess, the majority of good party-RPGs are isometric, but 2D ones have never made me to feel dizzy (unlike 3D isometric RPGs, such as Divinity: Original Sin). Edit. Forgot to mention Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. It has excellent combat and controls, though camera might move unexpectedly, while climbing large opponents (mostly, dragons).

There is a shooty mini-game in KOTOR to take out fighters. I installed a mod to skip it but you can't skip the first one, I don't think. I played twice wielding duel light-sabers so I was basically a DA rogue in space. There is also a racing mini-game; again, you have to do the first one due to plot but the rest are optional.
Jade Empire is a lot of fun. It has a mini-game too and the first instance of it is (for me) super hard. BUT, once you get past it the rest of the mini-games are easier and it opens up a really good character arc for one of the companions.

Yeah, I'm sick and tired of all these isometric RPG games. They don't make me play for a long time... If I want to play isometric-camera games I('ll) play strategy games that by nature have more role playing options. They sold us all mid-era RPG fans (NWN-KOTOR- JadeEmpire-ME-AlphaProtocol-DragonAge) to Bethesda and old school RPG fans... New Vegas was great but Skyrim and FO4 are really not very good or even the last 2 or 3 Bioware's releases. Sure we can play Dark Souls games, but prepare shitloads of hours to be wasted doing killing or trying to kill a boss.

You can do it all! The story is kind of in the background, but pretty interesting if you pay attention and with a bit of a twist

Well, I prefer the second KOTOR to the first, because the companions are more interesting overall imo, and there are more romances for the female PC in it.

I rather like the game despite some of its flaws. If KOTOR was a reconstruction of Star Wars tropes then KOTOR 2 is a deconstruction and it's an interesting one at that, in my opinion. It has a good story, good characters and good villains. It's got the old character creator system like KOTOR where you're just selecting an non-customizable human head but I just modded in a female twi'lek. Could wear armor and all just fine.

I enjoyed KOTOR 2 but found the original KOTOR to be on the bland side to be honest. KOTOR! Not KOTOR 2. Play Kotor 1. It's like literally one of the best games ever. I think this is accurate. KOTOR was similar to the original Star Wars movies and didn't try to deviate from that feel at all. KOTOR 2 tried to do something new with the setting. I also enjoyed the relationship between Kreia and the Exile far more than the one between the character and Bastila in the first game.

Dragon's Dogma will probably resonate with you if you like the character customization of BioWare games, but the story is nothing to write home about. The gameplay is a mixture of Shadow of the Colossus and the Monter Hunter, which is also a game I can recommend. Keep an eye on the upcoming Monster Hunter, that one is putting more emphasis on plot too.
Oh and KOTOR2 is my favorite western RPG ever so yeah I can recommend it too, as well as Alpha Protocol if we are talking Obsidian RPGs.

KOTOR 2 also had better customisation, it was more viable to use non-jedi characters in combat, and you could just turn your favourite companions into jedi if you wish. Awareness also opened up dialogue conversations which was also pretty neat.

KOTOR II was good even without that extra content. The only annoying thing about it is that nihilist biotch Kreia does what she wants eventually and not much is in the game to prevent that. I preferred to help Master Vrook instead.
