Most of the stuff looks like pedo bear's fantasies to me. I wish I could block that shit out of my steam prefs. Download and play Katawa Shoujo or Doki Doki Literature Club if that's what you think. As trite as it is, I'll probably recommend these two to anyone who thinks that VNs are just weird loli porn. KS actually portrays fairly realistic relationships and depictions of different disabilities. DDLC, as mentioned before, is a very surreal, self-referential and philosophical horror story.

I dunno I tried Doki Doki literature club but found it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too slow, seems to be a common trend among visual novels that they seem to be written by people so in love with their own writing that they can't bear to part with a single paragraph, takes way to long for anything interesting to happen and most of it is uninteresting filler text that really does not further the plot in any meaningful way or give any deeper insight into anything. Assuming you're not a slow reader, a full runthrough of Doki Doki should take you about 4 hours. The horror is subtle at the beginning, but kicks off at the end of Act 1 and continues for the rest of the game. Part of what makes it so interesting is the juxtaposition of what looks like your typical dating sim visual novel contrasted with the super-meta existential, almost Lovecraftian horror that is actually encountered throughout the latter 2/3 of the game. Yeah I got that, actually I already knew it going in and was what made me give it a try (that and it was free) and I probably wouldn't have played it otherwise, but then knowing that going in probably made it a lot easier to predict what was going to happen so when the stuff did happen it lacked the element of surprise and felt kind of meh, perhaps you need to be into visual novel dating simulators and find all the filler dialogue charming but for me I just wanted the game to get to the point and when it finally did I found it underwhelming.

Yeah, the game does assume that you're already familiar with typical dating sim concepts and tropes. It doesn't help that DDLC has been hyped to hell and back by journalists and critics. The kind ornate praise that that game has received pretty much guarantees that people not already fans of dating sims or visual novels won't like it, or will at least be underwhelmed. Same problem as games like Undertale or FNAF.
