Alistair Reynolds' Revelation Space series Neal Asher's Polity books David Brin's Uplift universe Frederick Pohl's Heechee saga Any of those fun and fast-paced? I am looking for adventure feel rather than depressing grim-drak kindda stuff to read?

Probably depends on how you'd describe "fast-paced" The Revelation Space and Polity books should certainly qualify, at least. Heechee is a bit more cerebral, but reads fast. But given these are all set in the far-future, keep in mind that dystopian" is a given to a greater or lesser degree However, Revelation Space kinda tries to keep things balanced, showing that every era of humanity has it's own problems. The Polity books has humanity pretty much taken over by benevolent (for the most part) AI, but with even bigger threats out there to face.

This one gave me a Mass Effect feel, main difference being that Humanity is in a big multi-racial empire, we were conquered years ago and then suddenly, the conquering race has died out. Now humanity (along with a bunch of other races that by enlarge ally with us) find themselves competing against a race that got conquered before them that considers itself superior for it. Oh, this guy wrote for the Wild Cards. I am going to check him out. The library has the Implied Spaces that sounds cool. Hey it has an AI cat and a magic sword and other dimensions. Worth a shot. I've been reading so much history books lately, that I can't take the dystopian future atm.

I picked up The Expanse novels and have been enjoying those but why hasen't someone created a classic heroic sci fi opera series with these elements? -Interesting alien civilizations -Cool looking spaceships -Flying cars -Space stations -An ancient threat -Interesting antagonist -A badass multispecies spaceship crew that are the main protagonists -epic space battles -A heroic spaceship captain -A sense of wonder Bruh. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylon_5Better Mass Effect, more than a decade before there was Mass Effect. Seriously. Early episodes may contain some 90s cheese. +1 I'll just pop something here. The space battles aren't everything in the story (to know the reasons, the pain, the struggle, the tragedy, one just has to watch the show) but these were definitely the best space battles I've seen for the 90s. Realistic combat physics / maneuvers for the Starfury. The very first time I saw the Vorlon cruiser, I thought that was the most beautiful spaceship I've ever seen. Not straight lines, clunky protubances. Elegant lines. What lies beyond its lines is remarkable. As with all the ships of the other races.
