I dont care, I have MEASP+MP (and to a lesser extent ME3MP) to play in the meantime. Just make it good, BioWare, take your time

I'm not surprised. It's just I wonder why they bothered to "announce" a release date for fall. When they knew they couldn't hit the date in the first place.

I am really curious about something and maybe someone here can explain it to me. People are pissed about the state Andromeda was released in and keep saying they should have delayed the game. Now that there is a push to the release date of Anthem its all doom and gloom. So what it is do you want the game released on time or have it delayed to fix issues? Personally I associate different meanings with the word "delay" depending on which dev studio is saying it and what my recent experience with that studio is. For example: Blizzard's Overwatch was in great shape months before release and played well during the betas. When Blizzard says "delay", I believe it's for polish and fine tuning. When Fatshark delayed the released of the Death On The Reik DLC for a few weeks, they openly stated that they had run into unexpected problems with their build and apologized. When they say "delay", I'll likely believe whatever reason they state because they come across as honest even when they have problems. Dragon Age Inquisition was rough around the edges on release and still retains some bugs today, despite a year of delay. When BioWare says "delay", I assume it's because their development ran into trouble and that there won't be much of a game to publish without that delay.

Well, this seems like the end of Bioware as an RPG studio. If Anthem fails, it's light out for Bioware. If Anthem succeed, Bioware will focus all its effort on maintaining an MTX riddled looter-shooter, probably without a real story. As it seems, the next Dragon Age will be an MTX riddled mess at best, an Anthem/Destiny derivative most probably, or just straight out canceled at worst. I don't buy that. Why would they have the writing talents they have on the case just to write a few lore cards? The writing credentials of those working on both IP's are significant. The problem is that we don't know what a 'new BioWare' game including live service will be like compared to ME3/DAI/MEA's brand of Single-Player + Multiplayer. By all means, once we know what it is, and if folk don't like it, it's fair to come to a negative conclusion. But to write future BioWare games and the studio off because we don't know exactly what form the games will take seems premature. In January 2017, EA said that Anthem would contain βthe great RPG character development and story progression that BioWare is known forβ. ok, well I'm waiting to see it then...

They shifted DA devs to Anthem after "announcing" that (also officially they have up to March 2019 to release). That point to them enlarging the game scope, adding more devs and it seems that they don't have enough devs to make their target date still (they are still hiring for Anthem).

LegacyKilla's video is pretty sensible (thanks for posting), but as we could easily have 20 threads for these, I'm going to move it into the 'Anthem delayed' thread.
And here's a thoughtful response I enjoyed...

seems like 75% of the posters on this thread actually want Bioware to be closed down. Yes and no. I have previously stated that I want this game to be a big hit, and so good I have to buy it first week because you guys and gals are going nuts. I still do, I want BioWare to succeed. They have provided so many hours of solid entertainment, and motivated me to code again - I am a long-time fan. However, if they blow it again, that's a 5th strike in a row, and I gave them 4 before MEA when I finally said no. If they blow it again, I want the brand to die in an inferno.

seems like 75% of the posters on this thread actually want Bioware to be closed down. It can seem that way, but bear in mind that some BSNers have ridden this train for a long time and tastes can fall out of step with where the market is. Hmm, my instinct is that most people around here want BioWare to succeed but critical posts have a 'squeaky wheel effect. But I might be wrong. I think it might be interesting to see what the truth of it is ~ I'll appropriate this post into a little poll. bsn.boards.net/thread/14102/people-bioware-close

As it seems, the next Dragon Age will be an MTX riddled mess at best, an Anthem/Destiny derivative most probably, or just straight out canceled at worst. I hope it is not the end, but you make a great point about being an RPG studio. One of the big disappointments of Andromeda was the lack of meaningful RPG dialogue. character development, and facial movements (!). Since ME3 you would think Bioware, of all studios, would be on top of the RPG world, since they practically invented it. Can they get back to being a leader in RPG with Anthem, or will they end up with a look-alike 3rd person shooter?

seems like 75% of the posters on this thread actually want Bioware to be closed down. I apologize if that is the impression that you may be getting. For me, I would love to see Bioware hit it out of the park with an interesting new game. They have a well-deserved reputation, which has been slightly tarnished with the ME:3 ending and then the lackluster reception of Andromeda. Mass Effect alone turned out to be great entertainment, and Dragon Age was good too. So the potential may be there to entertain us as fans.... The problem is that the parent company EA is really dictating the game development schedule, with shareholder revenue requirements, quarterly financial needs, Disney massage, lack of personal touch, and corporate politics. In a way, I am suggesting that perhaps Bioware would be better off as a business if it were not related to EA... Hey, if Bioware succeeds, maybe it will save EA too...

What the hivemind wants is total transparency, clear and unequivocal statements about content and delivery dates, and then beat those dates by weeks, with infinite quality and zero bugs. Is that so much to ask? /s And then they'll bitterly complain that all the straight male romance options look like men. Pointing out the inconsistencies and hypocrisy of the hivemind is pointless.

A detail I take from this, is that Bioware is looking at the competition. The delay may not be all about having enough time to polish the game and fix bugs. It's pure speculation on my part but I think the strategy for monetization and EA's "live service" is still up in the air. Both EA and Bioware are probably spending a lot of time and resources on how to implement these features in Anthem. It seems to me that this so called "live service" has been an integral part of the Anthem game design. IIRC it is supposed to last 10 years but then the backfire at games like Battlefront and Destiny happened. It may be that EA/Bioware don't think that Anthem will be able to sustain a player base for 10 years with the current design of this live service, and it needs a major overhaul. And no, they are not going to remove this sheit no matter how much we gamers cry, kick and scream. EDIT: SofaJockey I get your point about yongyea sometimes being biased when titling his Youtube vids but I still think they are great for a quick overview of the current state of the gaming world. If one wants a more nuanced/detailed perspective, he also specifies his references (he often uses kotaku).
