Well, most of my choices came from partly a place of moral quandary and partly from a place of pure vengeance.
And a few hang-ups from DA2.
For context, I played a very elfy Dalish elf.
I allied with the Templars, because mages are all crazy and dangerous as my DA2 playthrough had taught me. Also there was something off about Fiona's invitation. I still feel like that was Envy trying to lure us into a trap. Just me?
Also Cullen was cute and he wanted it.
At first I let Celene live and tried to save Briala. This backfired and Celene immediately put her to death. For no reason I could surmise. Fine, you want to play stupid games... reloaded and watched Celene die and put Briala in charge through the puppet Gaspard. Now Orlais is being ruled by elves, how amusing.
When it came to the Divine choice, I'd already had Leliana go "princess stabbitty" on me, so I realised I could get revenge on the Chantry too. I name her as my choice and she ends up in charge and soon fills the halls with blood.
Now Orlais and the Chantry are being punished for the fall of the Dales.
Oh, and I had Hawke vs Alistair, with Varric in the party. I chose Alistair. I think Mahariel is now hunting me down and I can't blame her. But at least Varric and Fenris are happy?
Most difficult decision I've ever had to do.

Most difficult decision I've ever had to do. An "elfy" dalish allied with the Templars? Why allied? Because knows, every mages are crazy (just as her Keeper, I suppose), because she saw, what happened in Kirkwall*, and because a shemlen ex-Templar cute? Interesting. No, it wasn't Envy, this is an interesting idea, but this was really Fiona. She wanted to help, while the Templars not. ___ * (then she knows, that after the war, the Templars betrayed Hawke, and exiled him/her)

Where has Cole hinted about Hawke living? I can't recall myself. I always sacrifice Hawke anyway due to what Flemeth says in DA2. After the quest, he says this if you leave the warden behind instead... "The stone is cracked, split, jagged. The hawk would have been safe if it had stayed, but that isn't what hawks do."And if you leave Hawke behind... "Voices sing, but the hawk has flown away and cannot hear them. Standing by the door. Legs stuck. I shouldn't be here."I feel pretty good about the chances of Hawke surviving based on this along with what Flemeth says to them in DA2.

I learn something new! so much of what Cole says is a word puzzle meant to sound as nonsense or creepy as possible. So it's hard for my to understand a thing out of his mouth even though I adore him. Makes me wonder if I shouldn't save Mr. Mustache more often.

Hawke vs. Stroud was always lol-worthy, whereas Alistair vs. Hawke was less clear. Even Loghain gave me pause. But it's starting to seem that Hawke should always stay behind.

I might leave Hawke behind one day if it turns out there's an epic payoff in DA4. Otherwise he lives, 'cause I can't deal with Fenris..... "Promise me you won't die. I can't bear the thought of living without you".... "nothing could be worse than the thought of living without you".... "Fenris would have killed himself to protect me".... Fenris, whom Hawke taught to read, reading Varric's letter about Hawke being dead....

Hawke vs. Stroud was always lol-worthy This is, in and of itself, why Stroud is the best choice (and because of how I play Origins, it's always Stroud/Hawke for me anyway). The context of the decision is contrived, to say the least, and patently ridiculous, not to mention cliched. So countering it with the "minor character dies and we pretend he was important because he died in a pointless scene" cliche seems to be right in league with the writing for the Nightmare confrontation. That said, yeah, if it turns out for there to be a good reason for Hawke to be the one who fights the Nightmare, I'll retroactively fix my canon (wouldn't be the first time).

CosmicGnosis is your name based off a videogame, where the bad guys were called "The Gnosis?" Kind of, but I have a passion for astronomy and I figured that using the Greek word for "knowledge" would look more sophisticated. But yeah, Xenosaga may have played a role.

I used to think that way as well. Only recently have I begun to question the true nature of the choice. I waffled on it for a while in a similar fashion, but Trespasser sort of pulls it back to Stroud being the being meant for the pointless drama sacrifice. We'll just has to see if a future game turns that back on itself again.

really? lol apart from being a cheap "moral" decision that came out of nowhere (though at the same time predictable), it's hardly a hard choice too.
Hawke always stay behind.

But if a future game implies that Hawke was meant to stay behind, doesn't that so retroactively change the choice that no one would bother sacrificing anyone BUT Hawke? Sure, but it wouldn't be the first time a choice wound up vindicated or (the other way around) by a later game. Heck, the people who, for whatever reason, want a "meaningful" death (even if I don't acknowledge that in context) might therefore choose, specifically, to set up, say, Alistair for that scene, then, for just that reason. Or, while I'm the type that tries to fit my canon to the story, others might prefer to just go with their first choices and live with them, no matter whether that makes a "mess" of things.

I suppose it's the same for Old God Soul Kieran choice. So far, no fallout to doing the Dark Ritual. Maybe so. It's a good example, really, but maybe not in the way I meant. For example, I still don't keep it in my canon for a lot of reasons (I like the Loghain sacrifice ending, and I have a vicious love the "karma" for Morrigan's character if she doesn't have him around and uses the Well, among others). However, others can look at it and say, as you did that since there's no fallout (as of yet), there's no reason not to do it.

the redemption ending with Loghain. What irritates me about this choice is that it's not recognized in DAI in any fashion, because the Quartermaster is still there because they were a Loghain supporter and needed to be disposed of.

So i guess it's one of many things that hasn't been done well, hardly my fault I suppose.
