DAI was released on November 18th, 2014. It won GOTY on December 5th. The game hadn't even been out 3 weeks when it supposedly won. Even the most die hard fanboi has to admit that doesn't seem legit. Pretty much everyone accused EA of buying the award. GOTY means nothing... That's not how it works... Indeed.

Just finished my 10th MEA playthrough and found new task that lead to a cool and interesting consequence on the Nexus. The more I play MEA the more I learn and want to learn more about this great spin-off of a great trilogy. Just beat Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition on the Xbox One in 3 days with 71% complete a new personal record! Cyberstrike Can you spoiler the task? I have just started my 12th PT and have been stuck on 99% for the last 3 PT's so it may be something I have missed? Sure why not? There is a doctor on Nexus near the bar he needs Ryder to scan 10 different plant on the various planets so they can see if the plants will work with the Milky Way Galaxy once you complete this and Drack's loyalty mission, Vorn will appear on the Nexus and the Nexus doctor and Vorn have some funny exchanges and Ryder can talk to Vorn about the events of Drack's loyalty mission. It's a not big thing but it's one of several small things that makes the game more rewarding, richer, and deeper than a lot of people think plus it's more challenging.

GOTY means nothing... Except for annoying little trolls like you who constantly point out how many GOTY awards that games like The Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, Fallout 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and other such games won and then people like you conveniently forget that 99.9% of those GOTY awards are from the VERY SAME websites, people, Youtubers, magazines, conventions, newspapers, and etc that DAI won it's GOTY awards from. Does that mean that the AAA publishers who released those games WB Interactive, Sony, Bethesda and Square-Enix respectfully buy their awards? So please take your stupid conspiracy theories and piss off.

In a perfect world I would've liked to have seen an entirely separate amount of time spent rejiggering the Frostbite engine to work with RPGs instead of having it baked into game development but on the whole it's preferable to working on an very aged engine.
It's also very pretty.

Dark Souls 2 would be my pick, but Hearthstone and Shadow of Mordor would have been great as well.

Leap of logic, sure... but she brought it up several times so I responded. Got it. Not an unreasonable claim, but your mileage may vary. I would hope that all the 'work' on Frostbite over the last 5 year to make it 'more RPG-friendly' should have borne some fruit by now.

I would hope that all the 'work' on Frostbite over the last 5 year to make it 'more RPG-friendly' should have borne some fruit by now. I think it worked well enough for Andromeda, which is the most recent representation of Frostbite being used for an RPG. I think the main reason MEA had any problems was it was supposed to be a game made in 5 years but instead got 2- so branching dialogue, distinctly different tonal inflection with the addition of multiple story outcomes were sacrificed in the goal to get anything cohesive out the door in the first place. What does hrungr call it, pre production work? DA has had a lot of that so "cohesive" shouldn't be an issue. I think DA4 is really going to shine and show that Frostbite is an acceptable solution long term (even if it was pretty rough short term wise.) To answer OP Title question, it wouldn't have mattered if the devs/writers/employees of EA hadn't wanted Frostbite. They were getting Frostbite. I would hope the reason DAI came out as good as it did was that someone decided to embrace the change rather than waste time fighting the inevitable.

I’m going to jump in here and say one thing. Nomad there is nothing wrong with debating valid points, and different opinions are healthy. However you have done nothing but pick apart people’s opinions and trash anyone who disagree with you and that is not ok. If you cannot have civil discussions then just don’t bother.

Yeah I agree I thinjk th eengine worked brilliantly for MEA just as I thought it would. It was moer the project itself that was badly managed. Although I will say that despite the bad management for me the game still turned out OK. But I think DAI is solid enough proof that if the project is managed well it can still achieve great things just as DAI did.

For the record, I did not attack anyone who didn't attack me first. People seem to think it's ok to attack others with dissenting opinions, but when they come back and do it to you it's not? If you want to open that door, you better be prepared for where it leads. Dont expect someone to be meek after you attempt to belittle them.

I think there is a little guilt on both sides, but it's really clear that you think some of us are absolute idiots for liking a game. I have no particular pallet for beer, tea, coffee or video games. I'm not claiming to be a video game connisuer or expert. But I know what causes Endorphins in my brain, being myself, I figure I can claim to be an expert on that. And DAI, DA2, and DAO all give me endorphins. Which makes me like the games and recommend them to others, because it'd be cool if they got endorphins too, and then we can all talk about our endorphins together which causes yet more endorphins. More frequently than you presume, we discuss the flaws of the game, or something we wish had been tweaked a bit more. WE just don't dedicate whole threads to it with Hateful Titles (Tm). These comments discussing imperfections are woven throughout discussions that also discuss things we liked. But it seems you, and I may be wrong here, it's possible, cuz I certainly don't stalk your feed.... never seem to frequent those threads. Instead wanting to live in the hateful titles (tm) threads. So, since you never go anywhere else how can you see it's NOT an echo chamber?
