How would you feel if she was as girly as an American cheerleader but yet tough in battle? .........Cheerleading is actually physically hard. What is the point of this discussion? like, what is your aim? goal? hope?

Personally, I'm in the camp that I want my companions to be attractive in the traditional sense of the word. No, triggered people, being ugly, having a butch haircut, and being borderline mentally handicapped does NOT make a character interesting. It just makes them annoying.
It's not hard to make INTERESTING attractive characters. But all in all, I've lost my faith in BW being able to deliver on this. Cassandra is a warrior, so she has to talk like a man and have a man's haircut? That's actually pretty sexist to me. Sera is a rogue, so she has to be super outlandish to point that no one gets her and most question her sanity? Lazy, amateurish writing. Josephine is a traditional disney princess? Let's give her a crooked nose because you know... that's character! Give me a break.
Only female worth romancing in DAI was Vivienne, and she wasn't an option. Sexy, smart, wicked... Some hair would have been nice, but BW can't make characters too sexy anymore lest they get called misogynist by a few worn out middle aged women with too much time on their hands... REEEEEEEEEEEE

After reading so many threads and posts like this, I almost start hoping that BW would give us a male-gaze pleasing dollface romance for DA4. Just to make this particular brand of troll obsolete Being sexy is nice, but I think it's more important to have a good arc and an interesting dynamic. Looks aren't everything, you know I wholeheartedly support a butch lesbian option. Ideally I would prefer having all options open for everyone, but I guess I'm in the minority here Along with Jade Dreamer, may their BSN self rest in peace

Against my better judgment, I am going to reply to this...
This character seems exceptionally boring, and I imagine I'd find her boring for the same reason I find Cassandra (Who I find very attractive) boring. There's nothing there. There's no challenge, there's nothing interesting. Shes a Human. Shes a knight. Shes pretty. She probably has some "Honor" or "Chivalry" thing going.
My favorite female Bioware romances have some kind of challenge or flaw to them. Tali has the issue of the suit. Merrill is an obsessive Blood Mage. Vetra is never quite sure if you are just using her. Even Morrigan, who I dont really even like that much, you have to deal with her trying to balance her evil ambitions with the fact she may love someone. (Also I have a vast preference for non-Human romance options.
The author of this thread clearly wants a more traditionally feminine romance option. I dont really blame him. Women, even traditionally feminine women, are pretty. But even if she was drop dead gorgeous, I would be fundamentally unsatisfied if the character was dull.
Personally (If we are just going on sexual atraction), Id want a big, strong Qunari Tal Vashoth woman to down an ale, belch, sling me over her shoulder, and take me to her quarters, but if DA:I taught me anything its that we dont really get what we want all the time.

.........Cheerleading is actually physically hard. What is the point of this discussion? like, what is your aim? goal? hope? I was curious and I thought everyone would be offended. I for one am not offended by "conventionally attractive". I'm just annoyed that 99% of female love interests (even those aimed at women) fall into this hyper feminine, girly, long hair and make-up type... there's nothing inherently wrong with that and I'm not bashing those women IRL (I'm one of them), but it would be nice to have a little variety. I'd damn near hyperventilate if a qunari/Avvar/dwarf/whatever lady with a deep voice flexed at me, threw me over her shoulder and dragged me back to her quarters to break the bed... being ugly, having a butch haircut, and being borderline mentally handicapped does NOT make a character interesting. It just makes them annoying. Yeah, butch haircuts definitely make men annoying. Embrace your inner viking! Grow that shit out! How do men talk, exactly? Inquiring minds want to know. I get her. Sweet Jesus, anything but that! Everyone knows that's the ultimate boner-killer! :gasp:

I don't think being "drop dead gorgeous" is a character-killer. People always say looks aren't everything and I agree, but it should go both ways. Good looks don't automatically make a character boring, same as plain appearance isn't enough to make someone interesting.
As for a strong knight who's a girly girl - I wouldn't mind that, why not, but only if she was actually super ladylike. If her femininity would only be expressed in wearing a chainmail skirt, that wouldn't be much. I'd like a "proper lady" who would win the melee in the Grand Tourney and exclusively wear pretty silk dresses in her spare time. My own Lavellan is a real sugarface who is super feminine and obsessed with taking care of her appearance (Bioware failed me by denying her any dresses and making her walk and sit like a guy). I made her super vain though, because vanity is an underrated character flaw. But "a feminine warrior" still says nothing about the character. Vivienne is badass and feminine, but it's not what makes her interesting.

Just to make this particular brand of troll obsolete They had this with Leliana and Morrigan. They had this with Isabela, busty chest and everything. Oh wait, she has a strong personality, is independent, and has a higher amount of melanin. Never mind! If the shy types are more appealing, they had this with Merrill, who looked almost like a literal doll. Yeah, those folks never get anything they want.

Meanwhile, I thought that the DAI cast were the most collectively attractive bunch of people BioWare have ever created, largely because they look more like real people than previous groups. Which just goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and you can't please all of the people all of the time. I just liked how their visual design reflected their characterization. Example: Cassandra has semi-long hair that she braids because she has a feminine side. She keeps the braid wrapped around her head, however, because she also has a practical side and knows long loose hair very easily gets in the way during combat. Example: Blackwall has a big beard likely because beards make people less recognizable even to those that know and remember their faces. It's styling is also a clue to his Orlesian roots as it's similar to that of Duke Prosper De Montfort. Example: Sera's hair looks uneven and home cut likely because she does cuts it herself. Her clothes are mismatched likely because they are made from whatever she had at hand.

Honestly why do people care? Why not make a good character regardless of look or archetype Well I've gotten a bit too old to care, but it would be nice to have the "noble knight" rather than the suave roguish type for m/m in Dragon Age. Some variety in archetypes wouldn't hurt. The same would apply for f/f really. Not all gay characters have to be fierce.

That depends. Is she an advisor or a companion? If she's a companion she won't look like that. Only advisors are beautiful in Thedas.

A girly feminine yet strong female knight who can be romanced by both female and male protagonists. So how many gamers would be offended at such a character? Would you call her Ms fanservice? Would you consider her a boring character? I don't see why people would be offended by that. We've even had similar characters in the past such as Leliana and Cassandra. The description of her would-be character is too vague for me to say whether I'd find her be too boring or not. If she's dressed like the lady in the picture then I also wouldn't say she could fairly be called a case of the Mrs. Fanservice trope.

I would settle for being able to play as a more feminine character... Maybe frostbite is to blame here, sadly, Bioware struggles with some basic feminine character customization, like hair styles and armor/costume designs (for the MC). I don't mean bikini "boob armor" but like, a nice ballroom gown for the Winter Palace should have been an option. I hope that is something they try to improve in DA4.

Cassandra feminine? nay. She likes cheesy romance novels, but that doesn't make her feminine. She more butch than Iron Bull for sure! It's not at the forefront of her character like it is with Leliana: Cassandra favors her practical side but it's there. It's clear that she has a feminine side: She likes to braid her hair, she likes cheesy romance novels and she likes to wear make-up. That's three traits that are commonly considered to be feminine and I haven't even touched on her romance. How many more traits does she need to qualify as having a feminine side? All of them?

What if I like cheesy romance novels would I be feminine? that just means her taste is bad lol. What are you trying to say? men can't be romantic, you sexist! I'm triggered and beyond outraged at this deliberate display of sexism, the audacity, the sheer arrogance, I'm done.
But for serious now, IMO romance novels are universal. Most of the tv shows on the CW channel are romance-centric but i'm sure more than just women watch CW. Jack had some girly qualities too, but she was still super butch compared to Miranda.

Jack had some girly qualities too, but she was still super butch compared to Miranda. More than just boys watched Dragon Ball Z but it was still considered to be a boy show in many places. The same applies to romance novels: more than just girls and women read the genre but it's still considered to be a feminine thing to like in places.
