Looks like we'll be seeing this before TES6. I love what they've done so far.

Which Skyrim edition is this thing going to be compatible with? Someone will make a port even if it's not the original creators.

I'm having an eye on this one for a long time now. It's in development for what feels forever. At least they are still working on it, though with fewer people than a few years ago, as far as I can tell. I hope I am wrong, but despite the somewhat playable state it seems to be in, I doubt it's close to finished. Morrowind is one of my all-time favourites and I want this mod/game badly, but "sooner than TES VI" could as well mean "in a few years". Looks like Bethesda is in no rush to even seriously start working on TES VI. Interesting that such a big game company is competing with a group of people who do this in their free time in terms of slowness. Which Skyrim edition is this thing going to be compatible with? Someone will make a port even if it's not the original creators. Not even SKSE64 has made it out of alpha yet...

I am looking forward to the mod, mainly because I never played Morrowind. I mean I tried, but the interface is so bad I just can't stand it, so this mod is kind of a life saver. I am worried about how long is going to take to be released though, that's the problem when the thing you're looking forward to is a game-sized mod made by just a bunch of people.

Haha, that's kind of ironic since Morrowind was the last TES game that wasn't widely criticized for it's UI. Oblivion only got saved by UI mods later on and even with SkyUI, I still can barely stand the Skyrim listfest. IMO Morrowind - though obviously outdated by today's standards -had both of them beat in that department. Still, Skywind certainly looks interesting. I am also wondering when or if it will actually see the light of day.

I mean, It's not just the UI, it's also the combat system which is a remnant of the very old combat from RPGs, "pen and paper" I believe it's called, it involves a success chance every time you try to hit someone, and I just can't stand that system on a games anymore, unless very specific cases. Skyrim UI was atrocious also, thanks to the SkyUI team we can fix that on PC at least, I feel sorry for console players honestly.

For them, that is really fast to be honest.

Bethesda the Dev Studio, prefers smaller teams, a more friendly/intimate work environment. They are working on 2 Full TES sized games at the same time. For them, that is really fast to be honest. I know, rumor has it one is something in a GoT setting, the other one named Starfield is supposed to be something like Fallout in space. If they implement the settlement system they tested in Fallout 4 (felt more like a test than a serious feature to me) and manage to make it a functional a strategically useful part of the game, I'll throw my money at them. A mix of strategy/city builder and RPG would be ideal for me, but after the poor reception of Fallout's settlement system that might be wishful thinking. But back to TES VI, what worries me is that Todd Howard said something along the lines "we don't have the technology yet" to make the game he imagines it to be. Given their recent iterations of already published games as VR versions, I take it that they intend the next Elder Scrolls game to be fully VR. While VR is supposed to be the "next big thing" in gaming, I don't see that happen any time soon, if at all. If VR flops that would delay TES VI a long long time, so the size of the team isn't so much the issue here imho.

FO4 was basically just a tech demo, and TES 6 will just be full on VR Minecraft, at which point I will officially part ways with the series, because that is not what I play games, or TES/FO in particular for.

If they wanted the game to have VR integration, they can have it later on and re-release the game just like they did with Skyrim. You can't build your game exclusively around VR when it's a highly acclaimed franchise like TES/FO and 99% of the people don't have VR sets. I don't know what magical technology are they waiting for, neither TES nor FO ever innovated technology wise, if anything when it comes to tech those games were always at least 5 years behind. I doubt they're gonna start innovating now, and if they want to, the tech does exist unlike the bollocks he said. I wonder if (assuming he was being serious) he meant something like computer tech or console tech. Like if they need way better hardware to make the open world in those games work better with less loading screens and what not. In which case it sounds unlikely too, this gen of consoles is here to stay for quite a while and if consoles can't handle the game, they're not making it.

Maybe he meant a new Engine to finally replace their decrepit corpse called Creation Engine? I don't think he was just making something up. They probably have -something- in mind, I doubt they would make a claim like that without reason. I am sure it involves VR in some form, like maybe VR gloves or something. Zenimax and Bethesda are way too in love with VR for it to not involve that somehow.

Zenimax and Bethesda are way too in love with VR for it to not involve that somehow. Not saying it wont involve VR, in fact, it surely will in some form. I just doubt that's the thing holding their hands. And the engine is indeed dated AF, but they're the ones who make their own game engine, I don't think they plan to buy a 3rd party one. And honestly, "waiting" for the sake of wait for some miraculous tech to appear so they can finally work on those games seems pretty random as statements go. I take it as PR talk, and that's about it. Like when Pete Hines said they were not working on TESVI at all, like hell they're not. They at least have the writing half way done, and shit tons of models and concepts made. You can't start making a game overnight, especially Bethesda who takes for ever between releases. If anything, maybe they know of some new tech coming up, (like Nvidia/Intel/Ati developing some cool shit), but if that was the case, consoles will still be out of the question, and that's a no-no.

It still looks like they are holding back for some reason, there is always a new console generation or whatever coming up if you wait long enough. Even if it is not VR, they could have made a new game in the past 6.5 years if they really wanted. Or at least be far enough in development to drop some hints something is on the way. Not that they have been very forthcoming with information in the past, but almost seven years might make potential customers a bit nervous. If they had just decided to concentrate on other projects, like Bioware seems to do (where is my DA4, dammit?), why make these VR ports? Maybe not as time-consumning as a full game, but still something that takes up resources.
A new engine would be nice, not to say necessary, and certainly worth a longer development time. I have no idea how long would take to at least thoroughly improve the old engine, but hopefully less than a decade.
