It's not the nudity that bothered me, it was pausing the story to show minutes-long sex scenes that did not advance the plot. We get the idea, director. They're going to bang. They're feeling tender or frustrated or passionate or whatever the lead-up scene already showed me. Let them do that off-screen and get back to the story.
That seems to be an increasing problem, now that there are so many shows that don't have to get past broadcast censors. Naked people are fine. Naked people having plot-relevant physical interaction of all sorts is fine. Derailing the story to show soft-core porn just because you can is not. It's a waste of what could have been one more world-building or character development scene.

I liked it for the most part but what I really had a problem with was how the asain actors for Takeshi got shafted. They deviated from the book and the lore of the series itself in order to keep the white actor as Takeshi. Even in VR Takeshi was white which is straight up bullshit. Whitewashed bullshit. Wow. One version of the "starring role" is played by a white guy. His sister is played by an Asian. His partner is a Latina. His other partner is a black dude, and the other white guy is a robot. Two earlier versions of said lead role, are portrayed by not one, but two, different Asian actors. You don't really understand the term you are using, and you think it's ok to be butthurt about it. Get a grip. Yeah hey maybe i'm wrong. It's entirely possible. No one's infallible after all. Not even me. However, i'm puzzled as to why Takeshi appeared as his white sleeve in VR. Why wouldn't he show up as his actual Asian self? Also, why in the world would he elect to stay in the sleeve instead of returning to his original form when given the chance?

Are you aware that Kovacs will be resleeved again, and probably in an Asian form, as that is what Kovacs (a half-white half-asian man in the book) prefers to be sleeved as? He didn't have a choice of sleeve in this story, and that is part of the point. I will agree with you that the show didn't develop the internal conflict of the Kovacs character, as far as racial identity goes - that was developed more in the text. That is a problem with a lot of adaptations, unfortunately.

I will agree with you that the show didn't develop the internal conflict of the Kovacs character, as far as racial identity goes - that was developed more in the text. That is a problem with a lot of adaptations, unfortunately. I read the book but many years ago. I know he gets resleeved again in a genetically engineered Asian body. Don't remember exactly when though. I thought it was when he infiltrated the sky brothel... In the show he was badly injured or something and he was offered his original form which he turned down and chose to be revived in his current sleeve instead. That just doesn't make sense to me. Why would he hold onto someone else's body instead of reclaiming his own? I doubt anyone even has racial conflict in this world seeing as how anyone could be anything so it seems like it wouldn't really mean all that much. A series I would love to see in live action or even animated is the Avery Cates series. Not perfect but it's a lot of fun to read and in my opinion, vastly superior to Altered Carbon. Check it out if you haven't already.

7/10 show that when its good, its great, but generally, its just alright.
A big weakness to me was the audio. Especially the lead's voice was hard to listen to.
Pleased its renewed though, and the season mostly got better as it went - though I could point out a lot of pacing and writing issues.

It was difficult to get into but I overall liked it. Does this fall under Cyberpunk?

I'm not finished the first season-I've been putting off watching this show for forever, but I've exhausted my supply of readily accessible sci fi
It is RELENTLESS. It is the most shameless thing I have seen since the Watchmen.
It's all..
GUNFIGHT! BOOBS! KNIFEFIGHT! RANDOM DONG! TORTURE SCENE! ANOTHER TORTURE SCENE! ANOTHER RANDOM DONG!
and repeat.
Calm down a bit, and put a bit more emphasis on the background and narrative. The visuals are great, and it seems to have interesting potential as a sci-fi universe, but I fear the burnout will be fast and harsh.

Frankly, fairly irate this show was cancelled.
Nothing gold can stay, but there's so much room for storytelling in this franchise.
I wish I had four hands, Netflix, so I could give you four thumbs down for this dumb decision.

I wish I had four hands, Netflix, so I could give you four thumbs down for this dumb decision. Even if S2 was too sanitised, it was good. But Netflix has this habit of letting a crew loose for a season then cuttings its legs out from under them. S2 could not live up to S1 because Netflix got scared of being too extreme. But... at least S2 of AC was still coherent and had great moments. Still disgusted with LDRs abysmal second season.
