Also, have you SEEN the Arrowverse version of Waller!?

I'm still amused by the idea that a movie like Black Panther is considered "diverse" by some idiots. "Tolkien white characters":

I think its great. I mean just compare the amount of black superheroes with white superheroes. Most white kids who grow up and want to play superhero will have an entire list of characters to choose from. Meanwhile the black kids that grow up didn't really have that option. And before people will yell "They can just play Thor or Iron Man regardless", yes this is true, but that's not really how kids think. Now they got a really badass superhero who's on par with Spiderman and the like, especially after Infinity War. Black Lightning Black Panther Blade Cyborg Vixen Cloak Dethlok Bishop Luke Cage Sam Wilson (Falcon/Captain America) Static Steel Spawn Storm Shuri Miles Morales All black, off the top of my head. There are a LOT of black superheroes. And how many of these guys had the same kind of fame as Spiderman before the MCU? And while these are a bunch. their numbers are still nothing compared to all the white superheroes. But in the end its not relevant to me. I only pointed out to Matt why alot of people make a big deal of Black Panther beign a black superhero.

Yeah but is that the sort of character kids want to play make believe as? Most of the kids I knew wanted to play heroes, ninjas or pirates, not bureaucrats, and I highly doubt there are many dressing up as Amanda Waller for Halloween.

And while these are a bunch. their numbers are still nothing compared to all the white superheroes. But in the end its not relevant to me. I only pointed out to Matt why alot of people make a big deal of Black Panther beign a black superhero. Blade had 3 highly successful movies about a decade before the MCU was ever a thing. Storm is one of the X-Men, who have a shit ton of movies both pre- and post-MCU. Static has Static Shock, one of the DCAU animated shows alongside Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: the Animated Series, and Justice League (which also has John Stewart, a black Green Lantern and THE definitive Lantern to anyone who isn't a comic reader). Spawn had a movie in the late 90's with Michael Jai White as the lead, and a highly popular HBO miniseries starring Keith David. "Same kind of fame as Spider-Man before the MCU" Nobody will have as much fame as Spider-Man, at any point, besides Batman and Superman. Those 3 are the faces of American comic superheroes. Thor, Iron Man, the Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, the Scarlet Witch, and the Vision were all pretty much unknown before the MCU as well unless you were already a comic reader. But oh, none of them are black, so it doesn't mean as much. But, yeah, sure, Black Panther is super important. Especially if you disregard every other production featuring black superheroes that came before it.

And how many of these guys had the same kind of fame as Spiderman before the MCU? And while these are a bunch. their numbers are still nothing compared to all the white superheroes. How many people in general have Spider-man levels of fame? If you go mainstream, how many superheroes can people list without the movies and/or successful animated series? Superman? Spider-Man? Batman? X-Men (as in the whole X-Men, probably can't list much beyond Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean or Storm). That's about it. Hell, all my knowledge of comic book characters comes from cartoons and movies, with the occasional wiki reading. So is it that they don't exist? Or that their marketing needs to be better? Quality also ranks above quantity. We have superheroes up the ass, as a whole. But how good is any one of them? I personally rank Spawn above dozens of other superheroes, some or most of which are white.

Black Panther has made more money in 2 weeks than Batman vs Superman and Justice League did in their entire run. Plus it's on track to blow pass Wonder Woman. I expected Black Panther to do good at the box office, but not this good. It hasn't even opened up in Japan and China yet. A MCU movie about a hero most people didn't know about a year ago, is more successful than movies about DCEU most iconic heroes. As far as people complaining about Black Panther lack of LGBT representation. I just hope they keep the same energy, when it comes to other superhero movies.

Funny, when I played superheroes as a kid, I always made my own. A super derivative expy of one superhero (or several), sure. But I can't recall wanting to be an existing character per se. Also Blade and Spawn > Black Panther. And speaking of Spawn, the kids I knew that were most into Spawn were also some of the whitest I knew. And when I saw the HBO animated show, I was obsessed with the voice (Keith David, baby!), the visuals and the style. Skin color was the least of my concerns. I think the takeaway is make the character awesome first, the rest will come, in all colors. Spawn in particular is one of my favorite comic book heroes of all time. The pinnacle of 90's 3edgy5me melodrama.

I personally rank Spawn above dozens of other superheroes, some or most of which are white. As a kid, I liked the Hulk, and he's GREEN. As an adult, my favorite of the new superhero tv shows is Luke Cage. A stand-up good guy, plus he's probably the least angsty hero on tv now. My favorite movie superhero is Captain America. Same reason, he's a genuine good person. Now that I think about it, I'd pay money for a Steve Rogers/Luke Cage team-up movie...
